Your dress looks beautiful and the button placement doesn’t show in the pictures. You could always position it differently and try it on. It’s too pretty not to wear it much. I’m relieved to see that you have moments too. I got in a muddle with the pockets in the Safira trousers and wished I hadn’t bothered now. Amy’s contribution was so sweet and funny. She has really gained in confidence and is such a credit to you. I love the small cow she made too. I’m really interested in the Avenir jumpsuit. Have a lovely holiday 😊

Avenue jumpsuit I know exactly what you mean. I’ve made 2 and just this week took the elastic out of the neck and replaced it with 2 rows of shirring straight over the neck band. Far more comfortable also did that for the sleeves in the long sleeved version. I think it could do with wider elastic at the waistband too and stitch over it to stop that twisting as it’s a garment that does get pulled up and down numerous times a day. Love your vlogs and makes thank you for sharing.

I love your safiya trousers. I have the make it simple book and I would love to make the trousers too but I don't suit wide legs. You've done a great job with yours. Your shelby looks lovely and I don't think it looks odd but it's how you feel and if it makes you feel better, it will be easy for you to move the buttons. With regards to pockets, I just love dresses with them in. Always feel lost without them. The avinir looks great. I have the same problem with a dress I made, the elastic is in correctly but it twists once I put it on and I have to constantly grip it and move it back into position. The Stasia is beautiful. Love Amy's makes. That pink one is really nice. Also, her hair looks different, really suits her. x

Blue dress is gorgeous on you. Would moving the buttons impact position of princess seams? That could influence your decision maybe. LOL re pockets! Who hasn’t done something similar? Makes our garments unique 😂😂
@DevonThreadTales Жыл бұрын
Yea that’s a good point. I might just pin it in place where the buttons would be moved to, see what difference it would make to the seams. Thank you 🥰 xx
@Hide_and_silk Жыл бұрын
Agreed - move the buttons and cinch in with the ties. Moving the buttons so far over will skew the front so the centre front pieces will appear different widths. I've just made the Shelby - also with Minerva brand ambassador fabric! It's just waiting hemming. I swapped out the sleeves too but for flutter sleeves as I have lymphoedema in my left arm. I did find I had to put the buttons and buttonholes 3/4" in from the finished edge which is further away than I would have instinctively placed them.

I absolutely love your Stasia dress - it's such an elegant shape and really suits you. I also love your Shelby dress, but I know what you mean about the button 'area' as I feel the same about the version I made. I can't quite put my finger on what's not quite right about mine, but there is something slightly off about the button / buttonhole placement. Just to add: I don't think yours looks off at all!

I made one of those for my Overlocker Janome 644D, very similar to the 6234XL. I also made the sewing machine cover with the pocket and the piping for my other Janome Machine MC9900. I had to make it a bit bigger because my machine is quite big but it fits lovely. I am now doing the Poof, and filling it with all my scraps and offcuts. These patterns from Closet Core are great.

I've made the Ravello jumper and in the end picked up the stitches at the neckline and knitted a neckband as I felt the neck was in danger of stretching out. I have a suggestion for Amy for the neckband of her pretty yellow vest top. She could try hovering a steam iron over that bit to cinch in the stitches a little. It might help it tighten up a bit. She probably picked up a couple too many stitches just in the place and fewer elsewhere.

I also did a boo boo with my first Safiya trousers. I wanted pockets like yours so I cut a slant on the side then sewn the pocket pieces one. When I came to turn down the top I realised that the top of the pockets were in the wrong place. I had French seamed them and wasn't going to take them out so I just turned the top over which made it very thick in places and my pocket opening smaller but it's fine. My second pair, I just did aa the pattern and I think they are my most worn me made garment.

That viscose jersey is beautiful! And I’m not a lover of florals lol. I’ve made 5 pairs of Safiya trousers and tweaked every single pair. I couldn’t get my usual elastic for my last pair and the elastic I bought was terrible, but I made the rookie mistake of sewing the waistband closed and topstitching it twice before trying them on 😱 I ended up having to cut the waistband off and making a new one 🤷♀️ At least I managed to salvage them though …….and they actually stay up now 😂 ❤

Oh my goodness I love your makes! Particularly like the Shelby and the Stasia dresses and your fabric choices. I’m going to have to get the Shelby now! I bought the Stasia dress pattern and put it to one side because I couldn’t instantly see the seam allowance 😢! Is the s.a. included and how wide is it? Do you think French terry is too heavy for the Stasia? I’m thinking red for Christmas (sorry to mention that but it might take me till then to work through my list!). TIA, Sue ❤
@DevonThreadTales Жыл бұрын
Hia Sue, yes the seam allowance is included. Off the top of my head it’s 1.5 cm but please look at the front of the instructions as it should be on there somewhere 😊 I think French terry would give it quite a different look, as the one I have made is quite drapey and floaty. So possibly might be better to get something lighter weight and save your French terry for another project ?!?! Hope that helps 🥰 Thank you 😊

The problem you have with the elasticated neck on your jumpsuit may well be that the elastic is too stiff. Perhaps you could try some lingerie elastic which is not only softer but does not curl as much as general elastic. it is strong enough to support a neckline in fabrics that are light to medium weight. Hope this helps.
@DevonThreadTales Жыл бұрын
Aaahh that’s great, thank you so much, I will give that a go 🥰🥰🥰
