Cursor is a fork of VSCode that lets you use GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 directly within your editor to write code, chat with files, and create documentation.
Demo of how to use Cursor.so. Use ChatGPT directly within your codebase to write and analyze code.
Probably going to be using this over VS code now since it's so damn good
Edit: tried to go back to VS Code and can't.

Yes it is wonderful, and no, you should not if you are Python people, pylance not gonna work with Cursor due to license problems. This got me well.

This is a very good point! They claim that they don't actually store your code and just the embeddings, but yeah I would probably be hesitant if I was a big company trusting a startup with my entire codebase

Thanks for the vid, really opened my eyes to what is possible. I think you perfectly showed the 2-4 features with the most value. Dropping in a link and it automatically chunking the data blew my mind a little... I knew it was possible but this UX is top tier... Keep the vids coming!

As an "Old School' Coder Dog without time to learn a lot of new tricks someone on Reddit recommended this to me as I was coming from Notepad++ and wanted something free with built-in AI copilot that wouldn't have a big learning curve. You just install it and it works (and optionally add your GPT API key to go beyond the free version limits). I'm freelance and don't code in a enterprise environment so this is a nice compromise going from simple code text editor to something more full featured with AI and very easy to get up and running on.

The only thing I wish it had was built-in FTP as I run all my code on a test server instead of locally but WinSCP can help automate the FTP transfers.

I just installed cursor yesterday. Really like what you presented in the video. Too much fluff in most videos just giving high level feature lists. You actually wrote some code so I can see the value. The first wave of ai effects are happening right now. It’s not loosing jobs, it’s having to compete with other devs in the team that are using ai. No one can compete with that. This is what prompted me to start using it. I have to. Coding the old way of solving little problems (bugs) on the way to adding a feature in an app is not going to work. Ai can avoid all those bugs by giving you error free code in seconds. Maybe not perfect, but good enough. If you write code for a living you need to embrace ai. There is so much that is changing, it should get you excited. Think about all the new opportunities we now have with ai. Yes, there will be negatives, but alot of upside as well.
@toshvelaga

Totally agree, have to either embrace the new workflows with ai, or get left behind by more productive devs

I already switched from VS Code to Cursor, and I love it. The only gripe is that API calls in GPT4 is still too expensive. It’d be nice if they could integrate Claude 2. That model has similar capabilities to GPT4 and API calls are many times cheaper. I’d use that over GPT3.5

i just tired github copilot on VSC a few days ago. I have not tried Cursor yet. I am curious...is it that you don't need Github copilot if you have cursor, or is copilot also useful on cursor? What I am seeing is that github copilot cannot do anything outside of the particular file that you have open. But in these videos about cursor, it knows about the entire app. hmm

Cursor is a fork of VS Code, so all the extensions like Github copilot also work on Cursor. I have Github Copilot enabled in my Cursor IDE. I think copilot is still super useful in Cursor.

Am a little late, but chatgpt is good for the whole planning brainstorm coding. copilot is good for explaining code to learn that you get from chatgpt. Also good for small asks, instead of going to gpt and explaining and going out of topic for your new features to be added, you can cntrl + I and ask for it

You already can have AI-integrating plugins in not only vscodium, but also neovim. To top things off, it does not seem that this IDE is open source (really, a closed-source version of vscode??), and that lack of being able to tinker with my editor to my needs, coupled with an invasion to my privacy by being constantly coupled to AI? The cost-benefit analysis there is pretty hard to justify. We need a more open web, not a more proprietary and privacy-invasive one.

I didn't understand what cursor added here. Maybe you can explain? Cause all the features you presented are from Github Copilot. The code generation is part of github copilot you can either write something and it will try to autocomplete or you ask it what it should generate. The chat is also a feature of github copilot, what exactly there was cursors features?
