I’ve had same thing happen with a sears reciprocating saw, and I just took out the battery 🔋 and reinserted it. Maybe there’s an overload protection built in all battery tools.

I just want to know why #Dewalt refuses to comment about their contractor grade tools constantly failing on #TTR. I can’t believe that they don’t have the common curtesy to respond to the people who spend their hard earned money on these tools, the people who invest their money in these tools in order to make a living. It really is sad and has definitely changed my view on DeWalt! Thanks guys for putting in the work it takes to expose sub par tools and sub par company’s. You guys have potentially saved some of us a lot of money!

You gotta have him use it as a knuckle dragging contractor would for 7 years, and then do a few hours of speed runs to finish it off. ;) There are a few things you can do to get a bit more life out of a thrashed trigger mechanism, but its usually conductive paint or copper plate. If a quick blast with an air compressor doesn't dislodge the crud, if any, you've just worn it down. But to get more than a few years out of a recip saw in contractor use, that's a minor miracle. My dewalt corded recip saw, went from nice bright yellow to forest floor colored in an afternoon of cutting through rebars, old creosote soaked railroad timbers, dirt, debris, wire, and various gack in under 4 hours. Then cut through the new pressure treated timbers and rebars/ half inch metal rod. Works fine, and likely will for years more. But if it had caught fire 2-3 weeks later, oh well. For $100, it already paid for itself after one project.

Lol I got Jimmy's curse of the Dewalt today. One of my 885 impacts just quit today while building a playset. I think it's the switch as well because it just stopped no smoke or burn up as I was just installing some screws. It is my oldest 885 though and it's been well used every day for many many years. Going to take it apart and replace the switch if that's the issue. Woulnt be sawzalling this one 😂

It should be no different than running a 9.0 on the Milwaukee. Same cells wired the same way (when the Flexvolt is on a 20v tool). I honestly think it was just some freak thing that by chance happened during a TTR. I guess it's better than quitting on the job site but it's still unfortunate. As much as I love my Milwaukee tools, I believe DeWalt makes great tools too so I hate seeing them fail

I have just purchased the DeWALT compact reciprocating and have noticed a major usability flaw...it may just be the position i have been using the saw in but a LOT of cutting debris is getting into the battery terminal connection and the battery itself. I spent about an hour openeing the four batteries i used in this tool over the past week and dumped out half a handful of cutting debris...VCG, what gives? Near as i can tell it is because of the battery orientation on the tool. I am a schmuck or is this a design flaw?

My brand new Milwaukee M18 Fuel brushless Super Sawzall failed within a week. My super sawzall only used one fully charged 12Ah battery and the trigger did not work any more, Sent back to eservice center for repair. Did you use a brushless Dewalt reciprocating saw? High amp battery makes problem with the saw trigger control circuit.

PWM controllers don't care about current. A basic layout of how these function here. www.neufeld.newton.ks.us/electronics/?p=133 The problem is, the old style corded and brushed tools ran most of the current through the trigger, so you had higher quality switches. Cherry, and the like that'd handle 20A 250v. But with a PWM, the mosfet does all the heavy lifting so you need to only control maybe 1/4 amp tops.. And so, you get cheaper and cheaper trigger switches, the kind of thing where crud and friction will eat a track through the thin conductive layer, and bye bye switch. Then all you got is a high torque, high current motor to play with for some RC toy maybe. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pou3Y2OdirZ_r7s

funny, it's just like when i complained about the 12v drill "chuck" being garbage to DEWALT, it was like crickets, not a peep. it's like they're afraid or just don't care to address these issues with their increasingly declining product quality and line, while increasing their prices. i told them that i was going to try the red stuff for a while, and if they workout i'll be switching platforms. so i bought the 12v fuel hammer drill/ impact combo (which the "D" doesn't even have) and so far so good. so as soon as my 20v max stuff degrades it looks like i'll be switching. they won't do anything about these issues until they start losing market share as a result and by that time it'll be too late.

Honestly I don't know what to think. I've been using Dewalt tools for over 20 years and I've only smoked two drills, and both times I was pushing them beyond their limits. One was cordless (14.4) and the other was the entry level corded drill. Maybe their quality has gone to hell or maybe the flexvolt is pushing the tool too hard. I mean I still have my 9.6v drill that is over 20 years old and still runs, it was the first drill I ever bought

the only keeping flexvolt in the same league as redlithium is backwards compatability. i work with tons of guys still running dewalt stuff so old it needs an adaptor to run new batteries and they love them. if the battery marketed as something that works simply doesnt work, milwaukee has just dominated the high output/ compact battery market.

If you use a flex volt or any large capacity battery on an old tool you run the risk of burning the brushes or the motor windings out if you work the tool too hard.. The higher capacity increases the available power to the motor under overload conditions.. eg a 3AH battery would drop to 12 volts when you stall the motor vs 16 with a 6ah or 17 with a 9ah and the 12ah flex volt might not drop below 18volts if you jammed the blade..

My boss’s cordless Milwaukee saw all took a shit about two months after purchasing it and only using it like ten times. It was used to prune some small branches, cut a couple nails started smoking and smelling like burnt plastic after cutting a couple roots. I’m guessing a little dirt got into it and it couldn’t take it, we had to use my tools the rest of the job. I have Dewalt Reciprocating Saw 60V. It is a lot better than brushed motor battery powered. Worth my time to wait for it when I saw it is only brushed motor. I remember that the corded power tool was still better than the cordless tool from 1998 to 2010 when I was young.

The dewalt should not have died. But why did you run a 7 year old saw against a brand new new one?

I think DeWalt has some tools that are tough to beat, especially for the price. However, they also make the most tools in the price range that simply aren't worth it compared to others. Basically much less consistent than other companies.

Of course you did something to that tool to make it stop running. You used it. Everyone should know by now it if you use a DeWalt power tool it's going to go to the graveyard. Lol

Dewalt tools always weighs lighter than bloody heavyweight. Aesthetically Yellow looks good but could be compromising vital internal mechanical parts. Back in the days before Clinton NAFTA, globalization went berserk, I repaired various power tools in ship maintenance, I was amazed only with Makita for its simplicity mechanical design but its durability and efficiency is unparalleled by any big US European Japanese brands (never seen Milwaukee before). Now, by just using my instinct only Milwaukee can beat Makita costwise and durability.
