As a tile guy, this tool would be going up against some tough competition with my Flexvolt grinder when cutting tile. I could only see my self using this if I wanted to do some quick dust and water free cuts indoors with it hooded up to a vac. It’s a good tool to have but that’s dependent upon your skill and ability to handle this tool. 1st, don’t let the blade guard/guide fool you because it’s about as useless as a brushless Dewalt 20v flash/spot light 😂. Seriously it is. It hinders your cuts as you can’t follow your scribed line without leaning uncomfortably over it to “try” and see that your attempt to cut is straight. And just from looking at that guard, attaching a hose to it for dust control adds more to the hinderance of trying to follow your cut line. Secondly, that guard doesn’t stay in one of its 3 positions when cutting. I find it best cutting in reverse if I have to use the guard, along with the utmost patience. Forward cutting with the guard is absolutely tedious. Now, moving forward, with out the guard, it cuts pretty well for its need but this is the skill/ability factor I stated earlier that is needed. Free handed cutting needs the utmost control here because this little guy is light and spinning fast, if you’re not in control and patient, this can hurt you or harm your cut if it’s needed in a precise manner. Without the guard, your susceptible to more dust and debris, the blade getting pinched and wobbling off course possibly kicking back or out of the cut thus injuring you. Personally I see this as a poor design for a fast buck on Dewalt’s part. I wouldn’t recommend it but that’s the game of choice - is it needed or not. Unlike a circular saw that is much heavier and easier to control this little cutter poses more problems than solutions. My biggest issue is with the guard/guide design. Just as a simple cut off tool with precision needed it’s good, copper demo it’s good, ripping up drywall it’s good. For the price it’s nothing special nor fancy. As for cutting tile, expect chips and imperfections near your finishing cut. When I refer to the guard/guide being disappointing I mean in terms of setting the depth cut and getting going, when that’s being attempted the guard will drop when applying pressure as you push your cut. It’s kind of difficult to explain but if you get one you’ll understand right away. I’d suggest renting or borrowing one if possible before wasting money here.
@thegreatshitstain Жыл бұрын
Extremely insightful comment. I just got this tool myself with two primary purposes in mind: removing flood-damaged sections of drywall and cutting vinyl & aluminum soffit. I was surprised to see that people actually use this for cutting tile. I don't see how it's possible to get a straight, clean cut without having god-like skill and dexterity. And as I think you alluded to, the cut line indicator on the shoe of the dust shroud is absolutely useless because your view of the front of the shoe is completely obstructed by the vacuum/dust extractor connection. I've also experienced the unsettling movement when cutting with the dust shroud/shoe attached, due to the 3-position gaurd being way too easy to move.

@@tatebraboy336 I do, as long as you put a multi purpose blade it cuts like butter and you can have it next to you the entire time
@melgross Жыл бұрын
The multiuse blade goes through 0.05” stainless like butter. The big batteries really overbalance the tool. A 5 amp is plenty. The new 5 amp powerstack is perfect if you’re going to cut through thicker materials. Guys, seriously, read the manual. It tells you to REMOVE the dust shroud when cutting metal. There’s a good reason for that. The shroud is plastic. It can melt from the heat, or even burn. You don’t want the possibly red hot particles going into your vacuum! Inside the shroud is a metal cover over the top of the blade for metal cutting. I cut tile and stone in one pass and have the front edge of the blade turning down so as not to chip the material.
