After looking at this for years I finally just ordered it. Commercial plumber for 34 years and although I have a death grip with 3/8" to my sawzall to where I always get the nut on without filing, I just picked up 27 fourplex jobs and tired of helpers either cutting themselves or giving me rod with crushed threads. It's expensive but it's size is the only thing that's put me off for so long. Too many tools as it is and worried I'll pop my truck tires from the weight of them, haha.

Well our company owns one of these units and we use it very hard. I currently have an issue with the unit not cutting anything even 1/4" soft rod. We are in touch with the rep. for this. Also, Brad did not take the small bolt pieces and try to put a nut on them, my guess is he would not be able to get that nut on. I know we couldn't, that would look bad for the review. We usually cut multiple pieces out of a 6' length of threaded rod. As you could surmise, one end is nice the other end, not so much and we usually use both ends. The unit is great with new dies, when they get worn you will have problems with getting hardware on the rod. Also a note, you must change both dies to the correct size, not just the outside one, and the dies have 2 - 3/8" sets, 1/4" has one and 1/2" has one.

Hi Brad, This is a pretty cool tool by DeWalt. What's really nice it doesn't have the flywheel motor like their cordless nailers. Thanks for the video

I agree, that flywheel is a bit annoying. thanks for watching Michael

So I have this tool, but I’m having issue with the cuts coming out with burs or not feeding the nut on the rod. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to buy a new Die Set?

what are you other options for cutting thread rod? hack saw, small band saw, 4.5 angle grinder, or bolt cutters. and the all leave a jagged edge, or a spark shower. cut and fire hazard. this is a awesome tool.

Will it cut wall tie rod for concrete forms? The rod has a different thread pattern.
@hammerandhome3 жыл бұрын
nope, I would use a grinder or a cut off saw, or even a portable band saw to cut rebar, this tool is not a good choice to cut rebar.
@thart14513 жыл бұрын
@@hammerandhome its not rebar. Is a threaded rod used to do one sided pours.
@hammerandhome3 жыл бұрын
@@thart1451 oh sorry, I know what you're talking about, my mistake. I think the threads would be to large on Tie rod.

Wow, no good in the UK though unless there is a metric version, M10, 8 & 6mm. It does cut rather quickly and I'm doubting as to how long the cutter will last and ease of replacement and availability.
@hammerandhome Жыл бұрын
All good questions, I have no idea how long it will last, I’m hoping a lot of cuts, they don’t have this in the UK? I know you guys have some cool tools we don’t get as well Cheers

Would it cut steel cable?
@hammerandhome Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I haven’t tried that. I’m kind of thinking probably not, be better off using a bandsaw for cable.
