I’ve worked at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi for the better part of 20 years. Being I used Makita tools at work I purchased Makita for home use. In the last fifteen+ years those Makita batteries have gotten old and are not only expensive but somewhat obsolete being slide on systems have come to prominence. As well as the fact that I was also in the market for tools beyond just a driver and a drill. Being I had made numerous repairs using a high torque 1/2” drive Dewalt driver, to make repairs on things which are sometimes torqued over 160nm, and it handled the job better than large pneumatic wrenches we once used. So, this past year, I went with Dewalt 20V XR tools; 1/2” high torque driver, drill, impact driver, sawzall, 7 1/2” circular saw, orbital sander, oscillating multi-tool, and a flashlight (just because it was in a kit with other things I wanted) and so far I love these tools! One of the kits came with a single fast charger and it did sound like nothing I’d heard before. Some of the chargers at work may be that loud but being where they are I have never noticed. Being a middle aged fellow, that grew up with inferior battery technologies where the batteries were prone to different problems if not used and charged just so. A part of me has wondered if here is any harm to the long term battery life in using the fast charger all of the time. So, being I have five batteries, and I haven’t been using but one tool at a time, I haven’t been using the fast charger at all. Based on your video I’m guessing you don’t have any reservations about using the fast charger all of the time?

When I first started selling tools back 2005 MAKITA was the brand in my area they had just gone from the older 7.2v batteries long about 6” and about an 1.5” wide, do you remember those. It got to the point where it was cheaper to replace the tool with an entire kit then get one old battery. As far as quick chargers go I don’t really have any reservations about them. But to be honest I don’t use my Dewalt cordless that much in the winter mostly snow removal so as I need to charge a single I just slap it on my somewhat fast single charger. I have probably a dozen batteries half of which are 5ah or bigger so I will use this all summer for my landscaping jobs I’m not too worried about it. What shortening if a life span there might be is worth it for my situation. No you gave me a video idea :)

Be aware that it only attaches to the Tough Stack 1.0 system but not the Tough Stack 2.0 setup.

Get a smart plug and set an automation to turn off plug 6 hrs after turning on. So the rapid charger won’t destroy your batteries

Question about the 5 AH battery charging in half hour, I was looking at the charge that this product has on Amazon and the Dewalt chart shows that a 5ah battery DCB 205 will charge in 50 minutes, I like your figure of 1/2 hour but?????

I think it’s closer to 40-45 mins now after running it for a year I’m planning a one year later follow up review sometime soon but not sure why I calculated 30 mins when I did this ones.

Can you leave your batteries in the charger slots? Would they trickle charge and be safe leaving them there when not in use?

It will lead to a single cell in being dead. I suggest putting a smart plug on this and setup automation to turn off 6 hrs off after turning on.

Are you sure?!? I just tried to attach my new charger to the 2.0 system and it’s a solid no go! Close ,but not! Tried it on 4 different boxes. But hey I’m only a guy that has only about 5000 job hours with my tough system, so maybe it’s me🫤

I like them. In addition to 20v XR tools I have a porta-band, chop saw, and angle grinder. So far, I’ve had no trouble from any of them.

What size chop saw did you go with and what do you think of the band saw i don’t really have a need for one at this time.
@MississippiJarhead
@MississippiJarhead 3 жыл бұрын
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP The chop saw is a “14 and is strictly for metal. (I have a 10” (?) 1970’s era Craftsman miter saw for wood) The portaband is great but I could do most everything I’ve used it for with my grinder with cutoff disks, or sawzall. It’s real advantage is that it doesn’t make the mess a grinder does, and can cut something the sawzall would just shake back and forth.
