The only reasons I upgraded to a big 3 HP cabinet saw from this model were 1. larger table from front to back 2. ferromagnetic table surface for using magnetic accessories 3. more power for ripping 8/4 lumber 4. better dust collection. 5. miter slots got a bit inaccurate with heavy use over time I think the vast majority of non-professionals will be happy with this saw - like you showed here, it's way more accurate than it looks. I'm sure you got this right given how many videos you watched on the subject, but I found that aligning the blade to the miter slot and then also aligning the fence to the miter slot was easiest to do by mounting a dial indicator on a piece of hardwood that was a snug fit in the miter slot. That always got me far closer than I could ever get with calipers. Careful to not jar the fence too much - a solid impact will knock it out of square on the rack and pinion system. If that happens, a couple of mallet taps in the right direction will bring it back into square without having to fiddle with all the adjustments :D

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzbin.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

A good table saw is probably the best woodworking tool you can have. It makes building most things you'd want to make exponentially easier. Too bad youll get all that desicated tree carcass all over your nice metal working equipment though.

Hope you enjoy it! You can really tell that the engineers at DeWalt have been working on perfecting every feature. So many little details, like the push stick holder, etc which make it work well. And of course that fence design is brilliant.

I had a Dewalt when building many years ago and I could not kill it. The table was passed on when I gave the game away as I had a sliding table saw in the workshop and the Dewalt would have sat going to waste.

I think that when you measured the blade distance from the fence (around 3.30) on the front you used the gusset and on the rear you had the caliper on a tungsten insert. The burning question is the information plate easy to clean?

I went back and forth measuring insert to fence multiple times. Only showed a couple in the edit. Funny thing, to be able to register the warranty, Dewalt wants the date code, which is engraved in the plastic. I looked all over for it, used Dewalts instructions, and still only found it after a service request :)

You are lucky. Over here, the used ones are normally old bodged up ones for cutting firewood.

@@RotarySMP I just sold a good condition, working DW745. My saw was only one of two listed for sale. Rare to find one let alone a goodun'. The buyer was stoked and lives locally. So, so lucky. By the way, one US poster was complaining that even though OSHA had banned the DWE745 he was disappointed that there weren't many on Craiglist. One reply was because builders were not selling their banned saws, just taking them home for personal use. So yeah, many saws for sale in the US but the DW745 and it's 8.5" variant, no, not so many. I paid a lot for the new 10" version here, the 7491-XE but I realise Dewalt have to put in a whole different motor and extras for saws entering countries using 240v. That has to add a few extra bucks I reckon.

A concept about fence alignment, which I’m sure you’ve heard before. Since it’s impossible to set the blade and the fence perfectly parallel, it best to err on the fence being a tiny amount further away. What you absolutely do not want is the back of the blade to be even a tiny amount closer to the fence than the front. That is very dangerous. I have a heavy (400 plus pounds) cabinet saw, and even with a very good fence, I check it regularly, though I don’t do as much woodworking as I used to, mostly machine work. But I do use the saw for aluminum. Also, if the table is just a small amount off from flat, don’t worry. You’ll find in the practical sense that it really doesn’t affect the work unless you’re doing extremely fine cabinet work.

2:48: It is okay that the stop at the rear cutting edge is decently further away than at the front edge. For safety reasons! The blade saws mainly on the front edge, because otherwise the wood could tilt in the rear portion and it could lead to problematic injuries to the user from a potential kickback. The rear area therefore remains free and the fence guide means that you still have parallel cuts. Otherwise, the left side remains for guidance and right-angled cuts. Unfortunately, this mistake is made all too often. As a rule, the guide stop is already set by the manufacturer...

The first setup task should have been to make the blade parallel to the runner slots. Then make the fence parallel to the blade.

I have that same saw, but as a kit with the rolling stand... super handy job saw. Goes well with a 10" or 12" miter box as a roll-around set. Stand 'em up in the corner out of the way when not in use. DWE7491RS, DWX726, DWS713

@@RotarySMP It was a table to a delta unisaw. even on a Bridgeport would have been 3 set ups on the main section and 2 on the extensions each. it would have taken a month. Inheritance machine fly cutter could have brought it down to 1 and 2.

New tool day is always a good day . One of the things that contractors around here ,Canada, do with these saws , is use the smaller diameter blades meant for circular saws. easily available , much cheaper and the same quality as the larger blade . they use less power and are thinner . downside Is you would have to find a thinner riving knife, and you lose depth of cut. Have you watched hooked on wood ? I bought a veiko t-square at his recommondation and really like it.

Thanks for the Tip Steve, I didn't know that channel. I have a couple of fine tooth smaller diameter blades, and have been using one for cross cutting. The thinner blade means the scale is also off, unless I adjust it each time. Do you know if Dewalt offers thinner riving knives?

Good point John. Over here it would be a Felder, but I couldn't get something like that through any door to my wood shop, and would not be able to move around it as the shop is too narrow. As inferior toys goes, this can do a pretty decent job.

It's frustrating that there isn't anything on the market anymore for the home woodworker. You are stuck between an expensive cabinet saw or the best contractor saw you can find. In the early 2000s there were lots of saws on the market for that customer but as more boomers retired they started buying the high end saws since they have all that retirement cash to spend. I wish I had an extra box joint blade that would have fit but not much will fit those contractor saws and they usually say not to... If It had I would have dropped it off with George on Naxos for you when I was there in May with mom. Well if I come up with something for you I'll drop it off with him in September assuming the better half and I make it there. No chance of non rev this year we will have to non rev to somewhere in europe then buy a ticket to Athens this year. I'd like to be able to fly into Naxos then ferry up to Athens. It would avoid a ferry trip and save some time but the flight times don't line up well even to the other islands.

I have heard that they have considered extending the runway at Naxos to take jets, but it keeps getting turned down. There is only that twice daily ATR. We fly in to Santorini, and then catch the Delos up, as it is only a couple of hours. I would have preferred a cast iron top for the saw, but other wise and pretty satisfied with this one.

I guess it depends on what is meant by expensive, and home shop. There are plenty of good saws for the hone shop.

@@melgross I was also kind of limited by the space in the shop, and the width of the doors (70cm) to get it in. Would have preferred something with a cast iron table, but the DeWalt is a better wood worker than me at this stage.

Your old saw might have been suboptimal, but It did have alot of character, it kind of reminds me of built in furniture in homes. Would you consider using this new saw to build another custom home made table saw to replace the old saw?

I dont really see the need. The finish from a table saw blade will always need some finishing in the planer/ jointer / sander, so you need a finishing allowance. Therefore you dont really need to cut to the 1/100mm.
