I have the Dewalt and it might be my favorite cordless tool I own. Very impressive saw!
@fongsa1yuk3 жыл бұрын
The most important thing that they miss is to check the temperature after each use. Running a higher voltage with lower current is cooler and doesn't stress the battery and components that much. When you run high current with low voltage power draw, you will need thicker wires and there are more voltage drops along the way. Milwaukee's battery runs hot and sometimes bogs down or it does auto-shutdown to protect its cells. We did not see this because they did not do stress test both saw. You can see this problem on other reviews. Again, they may be drawing the same amount of power but higher voltage with lower current draw is way way better. It's just physics.

True. This is why it is not recommended to use dewalt’s 15ah battery in smaller 20 volt tools. It’s just not safe and efficient for your tool. It also puts a hole in your wallet, like 300 dollars for 15ah? At least it isn’t worse than Milwaukee lol.

I have owned that DeWalt DCS577 for several years... and it still impresses me with its power, balance and great controls, rugged rafter hook and the weight is great when compared to corded worm drives. Spot on assessment about the oversized handle, as that feels better than great- its just perfect. Not discussed was the depth and bevel adjustment controls: The DeWalt ones are oversized and several years in, they are still smooth and easy to use. They are just as easy to use on a cold snowy November day with gloves on as they are on a sunny, hot July afternoon. It's not an exaggeration when I say that this saw could make you question if you need to even bother running cords for your trusty Mag77.

How many years do the batteries last, or is it a question of how many charging cycles?
@jeffpowell83083 жыл бұрын
@@RedondoBeach2 battery life is dependant on several factors. Mostly it comes down to the heat that is created when using the tools. The more current that is called for by the tool the the hotter the batteries get. Heat is the enemy of the cells in the battery. Fortunately Milwaukee and most other brands have computer chips that monitor the batteries while in use and communicate that to the tool. If your pushing a tool beyond its limits it will shut off to prevent damage to one or both. I've been on the Milwaukee platform for over 10 years now and I've yet to have any of the 18 volt batteries die on me. I can't say that about the 12 volt. I've had one of those die.

@@jeffpowell8308 Thanks for your your insight and sharing your first hand experience with Milwaukee tools and batteries. A couple follow up questions for you. First, can you give me a rough idea of approximately how often or how many hours your tools have been used on an annual basis during the 10 years of ownership? I'm looking for a rough average. I understand that there might have been years when the tools were use a lot and other years when they possibly sat on the shelf and collected dust, so just the average usage over 10 years would be great to know, to give me an understanding of what to expect if I buy a Milwaukee circular saw. Second, would you recommend a circular saw with the blade on the left or right for a right-handed person? I believe Milwaukee makes circular saws with blades on the left or right, but I have only seen the smaller saw with the blade configured on the left side and the larger saw configured with the blade on the right side. I'm not sure how I should think about the left vs right side configuration when considering a circular saw. Please explain the reason for your recommendation.

@@RedondoBeach2 I'm ambidextrous so the question of blade right for me is only a question of what does the needs of the project at hand demand. I own both left blade and right blade saws ( 6 1/2" and 7 1/4" blade left and a 7 1/4" blade right). I use them all on a as needed basis nearly every day. The rear handled 7 1/4" blade left is the most powerful saw of any kind I've ever owned or used in all of my 30+ years of using power tools. I only ever had an issue once with the 7 1/4" blade right as it would over heat when used in normal conditions and as a result shut down to prevent overload. I sent it to Milwaukee and they sent me a knew one that had not had the same problem ever. I've never had any of my first string teams sit on a shelf for years. I have back ups but none of those are mentioned in my comments.

Late to the video comments; as all your reviews, this one was a great review and these two both are the big dogs even a few years later. Although I'd agree with @Fong Sai Yuk on the volts vs current: low volts / high current is hotter and higher stressed vs high volts / low current cooler and less stressed. High volts also tends to provide more deep cycle power. I've used both and agree on the positive points indicated for the Milwaukee; nice points and noteworthy, although minimally better than the DeWalt in these points. The DeWalt overall feels & handles better for my hand/eye usage. In aged or damp material, or any pushing of the cuts the DeWalt 60v shines and rarely bogs or stalls indicating to me it's providing more power/torque... due to higher volts. Decision comes down more to the platform you're already using, both are great saws! Overall, the Milwaukee platform provides much better nailers of all sizes, no contest in nailers, these are DeWalt's weakest tools ... the new 2022 DeWalt Pin 23g nailer is the only decent nailer DeWalt makes and hopefully is a indicator of the next generation to come for DeWalt, till then Milwaukee easily rules in Nailers. DeWalt seems to be better in the non-nailer tools in performance, ergonomics and minimal size. I have the older 60v 575 Right, later both the 577 Left Rear & 578 Right.

I frame for a living and I’ve run the DeWalt since it hit the market. I’ve had both red and yellow tools in the past. My current setup is red except for Flexvolt tools where they’re available because there really is no comparison for heavy use. For a homeowner? Whatever works! But for earning my paycheck every day? Give me the power so I can get it done faster and with less hassle. The guys I frame with have been running the Makita 36v saws almost as long as I’ve run my DeWalt and the Makitas definitely have better ergonomics and lighter weight. And nowhere near the power. We were excited for Milwaukee’s saw to hit the market because our company has been transitioning away from Makita to Milwaukee for everything but the saws. We run everything cordless we can. Finally got a Milwaukee saw a few months back. We run our saws hard all day every day and the DeWalt is still the clear power winner. I don’t know what kind of dimensional lumber you were cutting for your test, but we deal with No. 2 Doug Fir as the standard here in Utah. Cutting that and cutting engineered lumber all day? Give me the power. The DeWalt is heavy (so is the Milwaukee) and ungainly, but the power is simply undeniable. The guys I work with all agree. The Milwaukee is huge-literally, physically, huge, even compared to the Dewalt. But it does balance a little better. Table friction? As a review component? Ridiculous. If you want a minuscule detail to compare that’s useless to a homeowner but matters to someone who gets paid according to how fast he can frame, how about mentioning that the DeWalt spins up from zero to cutting rpm faster than the Milwaukee? Again, if you’re doing it all day, every day and trying to go as fast as you can, it matters.

Craftsman and Porter Cable guys are hurting, bad. The few Milwaukee guys like their stuff, but sometimea borrow mine, and I ended up borrowing a few of theirs. It's about preferences when you get to the good tools on the common market. Slight differences here and there, with some components coming out better on Milwaukee over DeWalt to where I have a ton of their hand tools and flashlights. I still prefer DeWalt regardless, because the torque on their motors is always top knotch.

The Milwaukee's battery will heat up a lot because it is drawing around three times the amps to get the same watts as the Dewalt ,this needs to be addressed. High amp draw and consequently heat is a killer of batteries , imho there is no way Milwaukee will be as powerfull as the Dewalt ,I have used the Flexvolt sidewinder and Milwaukee Fuel Gen 2 sidewinder with it's high output battery and there is no comparison. I believe Dewalt chose the correct path a few years ago by increasing voltage to cope with future high draw power tools. Milwaukee has been caught on the back foot and the "high output " batteries are a band aid solution . I am a career carpenter and these are my unbiased observations as I use many different tool brands . Recently Makita has released new 40 volt tools to cope with heavier work loads ,I believe Milwaukee will have to up their game in the future to remain competitive.

I don’t see how anyone can get accurate cuts out of it. In order for me to get a fairly close square cut I have to adjust the blade angle to different angles depending on the side I’m making the cut. The table top is higher on the left side of the blade than the right side. Let me know if you guys can make that comparison possible. I like how you guys review tools and the information you put from those reviews. If you guys have already done a side by side comparison than I apologize. I’m sure you’ve made your decision by now but here’s my take. Both platforms are great. Depending on your trade one may go deeper into that trade than the other as far as carpentry tools. I feel like Milwaukee has more specialty tools for different trades than DeWalt. Dawalt seems to still be a little bulkier than Milwaukee. The reputation for DeWalt is rough and tough vs Milwaukee advanced engineering and refinement. Milwaukee thinks about the little things especially usability. It’s hard to see until You use the tool and then you find out how easy that make certain things. Makes you enjoy the tool more. I’d also say Makita is right there with Milwaukee and as far as Saws I think they are the best. Makita may also have the most expansive line of tools from the bunch and they too like Milwaukee are always trying to stay ahead. They’re miter saws are the best and the new 40V circ saws are the smoothest on the market. Each line has something they’re best at. If I were going into carpentry it would be Makita or Milwaukee for me.

Drawing more amperage from the battery is not a good thing. The amount of work a saw does is a measure of how many watts it uses. These saws seem to operate at similar wattages (runtime not mentioned in this video, probably the most important comparison). Volts x amps = watts. If they do the same work why go through all the trouble to make the 60v tools? The difference is heat. When the saw operates at 1/3 the voltage it needs to draw three times the amps off the battery. This creates way more heat and requires more expensive construction. Much harder on the battery as well. The special saw batteries probably use more expensive cells which withstand those conditions better. I don't know what the long term impacts on the battery are. But I would expect it to take longer for the battery to recover from each use, take longer to cool down for a charge. And I wonder how it would last over the years. Shouldn't any of that at least be mentioned in a video for carpenters who are trying to ultimately... make money?

@Pro Tool Reviews. Hey Kenny, Clint and Tom. You're not done! What about including the Makita XSR01PT 36V (X2) rear handle style saw in your testing? I can get that Makita as a kit for $249 with saw and blade, two 5.0AH batteries, fan cooled dual port rapid charger and contractor's bag. Hope all you guys and your families stay safe and well.
@scanyoursector57314 жыл бұрын
And that saw would be worthless with one battery, so it's misleading stating two batteries. and the dual port charger is a bare minimum as well. I don't have that saw, but it's a pretty big step down from the two reviewed.
@Or0s_8084 жыл бұрын
The Makita is a great saw, I keep it and the cordless Skilsaw in my personal truck. The Makita comes out way more than the Skil. I own the Milwaukee saw in the video but I passed it to one of my crews to use. My brother and business partner runs the Dewalt. I will say the other saws (Milwakuee, Skil and Dewalt) have slightly more power than the Makita but for me Makita makes up for it in ergonomics and weight. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of these saws if you're in a battery platform already. I just happen to have the ability to run all of these saws and the one I gravitated to was the Makita.

Just bought this dewalt saw. Looking forward to using it!
@ruggiero13713 жыл бұрын
I would have to disagree with your reviews for for a few reasons one the line of sight is much clearer clearer and easier to see with the Milwaukee the dewalt is difficult 2 Milwaukee M18 high output batteries yes does give you an advantage with some of the tools but they are all backwards compatible. with the deWalt you can't do that you have to buy the flexvolt battery. 3 the dust collection Adapta is not included with the Dewalt it is with the Milwaukee.4 The run time is longer with the Milwaukee You get more cuts with them Milwaukee than the dewalt. 5 the Milwaukee hands down is a much better saw. But I will give the Walt one point for a great blade These are just my opinions

I sold my Dewalt to buy a Milwaukee and the Milwaukee is a lot more versatile however it definitely doesn't have the same power. If your mainly cutting in roofs then 100% get the Dewalt. im due to get it again as the Milwaukee lacks power
@philipjohn41493 жыл бұрын
Lol. Milwaukee HO at 18 v is a joke compared to dewalt 60v. None of these reviews test the tool at its highest capacity. Milwaukee will damage the battery from heat. They cant be used constantly. HO is good for small jobs... but a huge cost and kills a 300 dollar battery.

Its kind of a flawed comparison without even mentioning the makita and how they compare to it, especially since it's the standard that both of these were designed to compete against
@jslay83194 жыл бұрын
Dewalt can say what they want but those 60v batteries are not backwards compatible. We've burnt up at least 5 20v drills at work with them. Maybe okay for quick spurts with long cool down times in between but don't expect to run them like you do with the 20v xr battery without frying them. Multiple tool review channels have already experienced it as well. VCG construction is one that comes to mind.
@patrickmiller16744 жыл бұрын
The 60v line has a powerful tool line up, that makes the investment into the platform still worth it. The tools i run, with exception To the mini blower, and impact drill, are on the 60 v line. Heavy duty construction only.
@christophercrawford27363 жыл бұрын
That’s probably due to longer run times allowing you to abuse the tool for a longer time. I use my flexvolt batteries on my 20v tools without issue. So does FinishCarpentryTV.
