Dexter's proposing to Rita and her kids is one of the most beautiful moments in the series. What happened to Rita was a tragedy, Cody, Esther and Harrison had their life ruined as well. I think Dexter truly loved her and absolutely hated how Season 4 ended. They could ve done more with her character.

The reason why Rita was so loved, was cause she brought hope to a dark world. With Rita, Dexter seemed as if he could become a better person someday. When she died, that hope extinguished and the show went downhill as well. She was a great counter to his darkness, despite not even knowing about him being a killer.

I just finished watching Dexter season 4, and I'm so unhappy right now because of how it ended.She countered the darker aspects of the show and was far too ideal. Although I am aware that Julie Benz is still alive, it is heartbreaking that her character died way too soon. I could have watched Dexter and Rita's chemistry for ages without getting bored.

Technically, Dexter worked forensics. He would have the knowledge of how to cook heroin and how much to give a person of what weight. That's basics for forensics.

“First you say it was impulse, but then you stole evidence….” Well, the hitting him with the frying pan was the impulsive part, after that it was finding a way to clean up the mess. Also….not hard to find out how to cook drugs and shoot them up, or how much to give him. Especially for a forensic expert.

When Dexter was with Rita he genuinely wanted to be a better person, a man with a sense of purpose, with her he saw something more in him that he thought he never had, something other than the "dark passenger". Rita believing Paul’s death was partly her fault frustrates me. She feels she should’ve helped him because he was desperate and begged her and it turns out he was telling the truth. But why didn’t she trust him? Because he was a former junkie and wife beating piece of shit. Just because he seemingly turned over a new leaf (which he really didn’t) doesn’t mean you now have Earned the trust. Your past actions dictate whether or not you are a trustworthy person or not. You don’t earn trust just because you bed for it.

The producer laked foresight. With Rita Dexter had the potential to gradually go from serial killer for pleasure to anti-hero in a similar way to the punisher. He could even have his own big post-series movie saga. But no, they chose to snuff the light out of the series by killing Rita, with things never really getting better from there. Things started feeling stagnant in Dexter's life, with Rita there was always a sense that despite all the difficulties life was bit by bit getting better. Finally getting a new house being such an important moment. Anyway, I don't usually leave such long opinions anywhere in the internet and I know it's way too late to make things right with the series so I'm just venting. Bye.

The first time I watched Dexter. Rita death was one of the most unexpected moments I have ever experienced in a tv show. The second time I watched Dexter. I couldn’t stand her character. Insufferably annoying, if Dexter was truly a psychopath. Someone with no empathy would have ripped Rita’s head off long before trinity killed her. She was a dictator who was in a perpetual loop of self victimization. One thing that infuriated me about her. Dexter never cheated on her with Lila. Rita broke up with him and it was very clear. Plus he was having a bad time with doakes and the bay harbor butcher case all at the same time. But of course it’s Rita’s world and the rest of us are just here for the ride. So of course no one and nothing else mattered. Other than her piss poor problems. That she created on purpose to be a victim. Then when she cheated on dex, and kissed the neighbor. That was of course dexters fault. When dex smashed the spot light. Rita might as well have stumbled into one of dexters kill rooms. The way she acted in therapy about the spot light. She honestly might have been less shocked. Watching Dexter kill someone. The fact that she stepped out in Dexter and then loved it when dex punched the guy. Says it all she’s a drama walking red flag That’s a total drama queen So I literally fast forward through all of Rita’s scenes. You will realize she is a side character and bring no context or anything to the show. It’s actually probably filler to make the episode and hour long. All the other characters bring context to a part of the show. Other than maybe Harrison Babysitter That was the filler after Rita
