And this is the exact point he realizes that there was never a chance he could convince Dexter to drop the code entirely, especially not by trying to kill the person that means the most to him.

Started out good, then Dexter made a bunch of dumb mistakes and was actually caught and brought to the small town police station. He then kills a cop to escape. It then teased us with Batista returning after he got a phone call by the Cop ex. GF and he was supposed to go there and extradite/bring Dexter back to Miami to stand trial where it all began which would have been cool to see them interact again, but then he just never showed up and Dexter was then killed anticlimactically by his own son with a single gun shot. Like how do you screw up that badly? Teasing us with something that never happens? Not only that, but the way his new GF on the show found out was stupid too. Somehow the likes of Lundy couldn't figure it out but somehow she did through plot convenience. It was a shit show.

@@Baguenaudeur No problem. And yeah. The part that pissed me off the most was teasing Batista interacting with Dexter and bringing him to Miami for a trial only to have him not show up at all. That's like the worst writing I've ever seen. You don't tease the audience with something like that and then not follow through.

They also retconned important stuff so the cop would have evidence that it never actually existed

I loved this show but thought Dexter let most of them off too easy. I thought they deserved suffering like in "Seven".

Read the books. In the very first episode (the first ritual in this video) Dexter cuts the guy up while he's still alive. But after that (TV rules I guess) he kills them with a knife to the heart before he starts cutting them up. In the books? They are all alive. Sometimes still talking while he's working. He's a less a less intellectual and less sympathetic character in the books, and its usually others who end up making his actions "right".
