I forgot how brutal he was in Season 1. Later seasons he'd stab them in the heart first and THEN dismember their corpse. But in season 1 he was like, "Naw, I'll do it while you're still alive."

I loved this show. Just watched it this year. Worst part about it was the relationships in my opinion. Just wanted to see Dexter hunt and kill bad people and evade arrest. The women he had relationships with and even Debra complicated all of that and I couldn't stand it. I will say though Debra wasn't as bad as his girlfriends. I liked Deb most when she looked up to Dexter but that had to change for the plot I guess.

14:22 I can’t believe how long it took for me to notice that Brian tears up here. As much as he’s pretty much the definition of a cold-blooded killer (especially with how silly and excited he gets when chopping up bodies), he still has one ultimate goal: being able to do that all with his brother. And this is the exact point he realizes that there was never a chance he could convince Dexter to drop the code entirely, especially not by trying to kill the person that means the most to him.

Doakes wouldn't sympathize if he saw the ritual. Since he himself is a bit of a vigilante too he would've see the kill justified, but it's execution is a product of a sick mind. It's only occurred to me now that the clear tape and plastic wrap Dexter binds his victims in symbolically represents the blood slides he keeps as tropies. He literally puts them under a microscope, in a clean little slide he can observe the chaos from in a safe, controlled environment. But it's horrific from the victim's perspective. Everyone is different. I'm not so destroyed over the finale myself. My only complaint is how Dexter inexplicably committed the same mistake that got Rita killed that resulted in Deb being made braindead. Also Laguerta was forgotten about when Season 8 should have been about a new, sharp detective looking into just how Laguerta ended in that rail car and what connection she has with the other guy found there. This would have led to the conclusion Dexter was the BHB and to his arrest.

Idk, you are talking about a man who went from nightclub to nightclub gunning down gangbangers with a LMG for a week searching for the man who dug up and pissed on his dead family (understandable reaction). Dexter is methodical and kills only his target. Frank Castle murdered hundreds just to send a message to his target.

For anyone curious why Dexter’s kills in the pilot differ from the rest of his kills from the series, it’s because they’re the only ones adapted from the book series.

Dexter says that he’s not human. But; he has actual human reaction. Especially to killing his brother. Trinity, the others that he finished, didn’t have any human feelings at all. Trinity killed mothers, daughters, innocent people. He killed children. But Dexter, has never killed anyone innocent. That’s human.

Started out good, then Dexter made a bunch of dumb mistakes and was actually caught and brought to the small town police station. He then kills a cop to escape. It then teased us with Batista returning after he got a phone call by the Cop ex. GF and he was supposed to go there and extradite/bring Dexter back to Miami to stand trial where it all began which would have been cool to see them interact again, but then he just never showed up and Dexter was then killed anticlimactically by his own son with a single gun shot. Like how do you screw up that badly? Teasing us with something that never happens? Not only that, but the way his new GF on the show found out was stupid too. Somehow the likes of Lundy couldn't figure it out but somehow she did through plot convenience. It was a shit show.

@@Baguenaudeur No problem. And yeah. The part that pissed me off the most was teasing Batista interacting with Dexter and bringing him to Miami for a trial only to have him not show up at all. That's like the worst writing I've ever seen. You don't tease the audience with something like that and then not follow through.

Read the books. In the very first episode (the first ritual in this video) Dexter cuts the guy up while he's still alive. But after that (TV rules I guess) he kills them with a knife to the heart before he starts cutting them up. In the books? They are all alive. Sometimes still talking while he's working. He's a less a less intellectual and less sympathetic character in the books, and its usually others who end up making his actions "right".
