my bathroom is half that size (apartment living) so there's very little counter space. I hung some shelves to put things on but I know they won't hold up to heavier metal items

Try to find the stud in the wall and secure them to the stud. That would allow them to hold a lot of weight.

The picture over the sink is similar to a picture I have over my bed.. My picture is of a CROWN, same color and jeweled. I bought mine from Kirkland. It was the perfect addition to my space. Love it Love it. We have similar taste in design. Let me ask you a question how do you keep your sink decor from getting wet? Especially when you have Teenagers in the home? I actually hang a large curtain tassel on my bedroom doorknob. It's cute.
