Regarding why it took Microsoft this long to refresh the Series X: Console makers would have to commit to a set number of wafers of the APU in advance in order to reserve capacity and ensure supply. They would not be able to cancel those reservations on a whim - even if the console sold poorly. Maybe it took this long for Microsoft to start running out of the 7nm supply they had committed to before launch (or soon after it)?
@Phoenix_19912 ай бұрын
It would also explain how the PS5 got there sooner since they simply sold better and more so could commit to a change of chips sooner.

Sony's remasters are really not difficult to understand. Remastering an established game gives small teams of devs experience with low risk and expands the games audience like Oliver said. Additionally, it's all relative, we were all there when Horizon released, but new gamers were not. An older teen or young adult getting into games now is seeing sequels where the first game released when they were kids. That feels ancient to them. These remasters make them modern.

No mention of the all new immersive controller that was supposed to be included with Brooklin as well. This didn’t come to pass either. I assume it meant haptic feedback finally on Xbox. As far as designs, I just stuck with my Halo Edition Series X as it is still far better looking than any of the other designs.

Regarding Nvidia, there had to be crisis in the AI. So far Nvidia definately do not want to be involved in powerful cheap consoles. Switch is another story, since it is not competing with either RTXs for marketshare or AIs for foundry availability.

Uncharted did it first, not sure if the first one ever to do it but before the Tomb Raider reboots.

@@Trai1b1aze Maybe not actual paint in the first one, it's been a while since I played the original version, but like yellow ladders and yellow flooring that showed the way towards the next objective at the very least. Also not 100% sure Uncharted was the first game to ever use it, I just know it did before Tomb Raider.

It would be insane for Nightdive to remaster some weird Marathon-engine game that no one has heard of before the actual Marathon trilogy. I know Aleph One exists and recently came to Steam, but it seems like a no-brainer.
@tyrus12352 ай бұрын
Although there's a fan project that's on Steam (and free, to boot!), I do think Nightdive would be remiss in not bringing the trilogy to all modern consoles and PC with their usual high quality and accessibility options!

1:52:16 I think AI mods can happen today to PC games in real-time. Style Transfer can be implemented today in Unreal Engine, it has to be a done by the developer and deliberate process. See also Google Stadia demoing a variation of style transfer when that service was introduced. I don’t see why a style transfer mod can be done without the developer’s involvement though.

I think the 6nm process it's just about long term contracts, we can't change massive production contracts day to day and maybe Microsoft pushed a lot of Socs but wasn't able to sell enough consoles.

Imagine a similar FMV concept for modern times where it is a VR title that incorporates 3D immersive FMV into traditional gameplay (yes I know there would need to a a "stand still" conceit as you can't move around in a 3D video, but would still be amazing.)

On the Analogue. The only thing that disappoints me a little is they could have included one of those 8bitdo controllers with it. Or at least do some kind of deal if you wanted to bundle one. I get why though. If you have a cartridge to play in it you likely have a controller to use. But still. Would be interested to know if the Switch Wireless N64 Bluetooth controller would work. Hope so

There is already a turbo version of the N64 core on MiSTer that can unlock faster framerates in games. The problems are a) a lot of the game logic is tied to 20 FPS, so gameplay can break when you run faster, b) it often requires ROM hacks to unlock and it’s not clear how the Analogue 3D can support this when loading original carts, and c) some games explicitly “sped up” game logic in areas where they knew the framerate was going to tank, so if you run it on “better” hardware that doesn’t drop frames, they will run too fast. It remains to be seen how the Analogue 3D deals with these issues, but you should temper expectations that this will simply make games smoother without unintended consequences.

Great comments about the 5700/5800X3D. I've got the 5700X3D which was my upgrade from a 3600x. Needless to say the difference was night and day! What a monster CPU! It cost me around $60 less than the 5800X3D yet, as Rich and Olie said is essentially the same chip. The only difference being the clock speed. I can vouch for it's performance.

I got a brand new 5800X3D for $270 at Best Buy thanks to them price matching, what I assume was clearance pricing, for the chip at Micro Center about 6mo ago. Paired with the 3080 I finally managed to get about a yr and a half ago, I feel like I am still in good shape for some 4K high refresh gaming for another 3-5yrs to come. While there is more powerful hardware out there to be sure, I don't feel like even the most AAA games leverage that hardware well enough to make me feel like I'm not getting the close to the best experience available. (I even get framegen now thanks to AMD if I want it.) Considering I only spent $750 on my PC 5yrs ago, and another $770 to upgrade my AM4 platform I feel like I've enjoyed some pretty kick ass gaming on a budget for many years, and expect to for many more, all without having to have spent a fortune. Hell, just being able to play online games without the $10mo surcharge they gouge you for on consoles paid for my upgrade.

I wish 343, err… Halo Studios, is able to re-capture the quirky gameplay elements that John described from the Halo CE in their next title. There should be a balance between “modernizing” an FPS shooter and still keeping the unique elements of the older Halo titles.

They are compatible. The point of the 3 lines in the Pro is to match the size of the slim plates.

Does TSMC even make 7nm anymore? I’m pretty sure they were forced to switch, so this has nothing to do with Microsoft.
