I could watch them without commentary, but it is more interesting if they bring up topics and speak their minds. At times they also have some interesting backstories or details to tell. - It definitely adds some value spending time on these long presentations. - I must admit that I often watch these at a bit higher playback speed, though... It's funny, cause at about 1.20x it looks like the games are performing amazingly well. Doesn't help that sometimes I forget it's sped up and I actually believe I'm seeing games run at about 60fps, which... no way.

Sony also tried to claim the PS2 was a computer so they didn't have to pay the video game console import tax in Europe. They released some software programming tools on demo discs to "prove" that it wasn't a game console. It didn't work but the EU ended up getting rid of the console tax anyway.

PS4/Xone started to be mainstream early than the past generations, on 2015/16 PS4/Xone became mainstream here. I loved the idea of "Photo Mode: The Game" when they showed it. I never got around to it, but I do remember seeing this. - The unfortunate part today is, it wouldn't look good enough to be a game based on visuals, as in creating pictures. - I mean, you'd better have the best of the best graphics to make it ABOUT creating pictures, as Photo Mode in full-fledged games is of course just extra stuff to do and perhaps also appreciate the visuals. - But to have just about that, it should look really interesting or also have interesting additional features that make it interesting. Like upgrading your gear or unlocking locations. Heck, make it kind of like real life that you have to sell your pictures and make money to travel farther or something. - It would almost be like one of those hunting games, but then not about murder.

This presentation was a disaster! I laughed out loud so many times along with you guys over the course of it. The PS3 obviously ended up being a great system, but boy was it rough in the lead up to it and post-launch. If it hasn't been done yet, I'd love to see one of Microsoft's conference leading up to the 360 (and the one you mentioned here, the same year the PS3 launched).

How did it end up being a great system? I own one for the cheap online downloads form the PSN Japan store of games that sell physical for $300+, but the console itself (especially at launch) was complete rubbish. I'm serious here, prove me wrong. How was this console even decent?

@@darinherrick9224 let me get this straight (I’m reading between all the lines), you have a PS3 console only because you perceive it’s library of digital, esoteric PS1 games to be an efficient alternative investment to their expensive physical copies? No other option occurred to you? Is it any wonder you don’t grasp why anyone would enjoy the platform itself with a mentality *that* out of touch?

You know, motion-control is a nice idea and I think that of the SIXAXIS is quite impressive for how it responds and built into the pretty compact controller. - The problem is just the practical side of it. It's not that every implementation of it is bad, it's just that it's jarring and awkward as soon as you HAVE to use it. - They might have standardized the motion-control in this controller, but because it's not THE standard way of controlling a game it feels like it was tacked on and it just annoys people. And because it was only an occasional use of it, it especially didn't become the norm. - Similarly to how the touchpad was barely used and it became "big button" to developers and consumers alike. (Though, I'll a little more to that later.) I think sóme of the uses were done pretty well, like how you could balance with it in 'Mirror's Edge' because it was in first-person, it did actually make you move along and it kind of made sense. As opposed to how you use it in 'Uncharted', in which it just felt more tacked on again like "just because we can and need to showcase it for Sony, we'll put it in", but in practice it was pointless and it also didn't feel as nice as in 'Mirror's Edge'. - Then there were also cases like where you had to shake the controller to free yourself, I forget which game it was (might also have been Uncharted), but that also worked pretty well as you'd kinda shake the controller in a panic. Though, then again, it kind of felt "childish" or something. (1:46:57 Yea, kinda like that indeed. It also FEELS like that when you're doing it. So in a way it makes sense like how, as a child, you'd move your controller illogically to try and get something on screen to happen, to then have motion-controls to ACTUALLY make that happen. But then as teens or adults we're like "Nah, I don't want that.".) To come back to the touchpad; I feel that it had so much more logical potential to be implemented in games. For example, I've seen reviews lamenting the fact that they didn't use it for the remaster/remake of 'Okami'. You know, whenever you had to use the pencil. I mean, yea, what a missed opportunity! That's probably one of the top examples it could've been used for. - But the were other instances where I thought it could've been used as well. I was playing 'The Last of Us' this year and there were moments where I thought "Oh, perhaps I can use the touchpad here.", which then disappointingly didn't work. - I don't remember exactly which things I wanted to control with it, but I do remember that it would've made sense and I was disappointed they didn't use it. - It's kinda like when your gamer-instincts tingle when you think you found something in a game, but it's nothing... Sucks. Perhaps it was with the bow or something... But I do remember that you also had to use the motion-control to throw grenades in 'Uncharted', which didn't work as well as it felt weird. But then again, I suppose you could be more accurate with it than an analogue stick, for the same reason any kind of aiming with an analogue stick is inefficient. If they just made it a little less sensitive or something like that, because the problem was more that it just felt unwieldy than anything else, and again, jarring. That's my view on motion controls and other gimmicks that, potentially, don't have to gimmicks when implemented well. - I still hope for more use of the touchpad. - Oh, and ironically, I ended up using the motion-control over the touchpad for typing virtually more. XD - That's the fastest way and I was surprised how well it worked. The first time I used it I was like "No, horribly shaky.", but if you just calm down and focus your aim, it goes a lot quicker than the touchpad or the old way of course. Again, it's just a bit unwieldy because of sensitivity. Anyway, if you got through the end of this thesis, I'll end it with this timestamp for you: 1:44:58

However they made an improvement with the dualshock 4 they still kept the motion but but approved upon in some games like uncharted 4 horizon zero Dawn and death stranding but some third party games still use the feature but they don't use it The only use it for select mode like it multiplayer games like Overwatch used it to check on other players but what's more innovative about the PlayStation 4 controller is the share button This is one of the most successful features on the controller which made PS4 much more affordable than the Xbox one but when the PlayStation 5 controller dualsene is going to improve upon what made the dualshock 4 great

14:44: Holy shit! I just woke up to hear this part about Tetris. I game I NEVER got into or understood why people loved it SO much until... I played Tetris: The Grand Master, and purposely started to play fast. I almost immediately became addicted to it and was so mad that it didn't exist on PC that I used all my programming skills at the time NOT to make a 3d game or anything. Nope: I made my own clone "Tetraholic" to clone it down to the outlined blocks, shadow block things, speed, even exact points and level breaks and stuff if I remember. It's one of those things that I can't get people excited about "Hey, wanna see my Tetris clone?" but... trust me, it was the PERFECT exercise to get back into coding. There are a million games people start that are No Man's Sky's where it's going to be everything and allow you to do everything but .. I ACTUALLY finished this one and delievered it ... to myself. I've never given it to anyone else, but if anyone wants to try it.. it has a particle engine and a 3d engine JUST for the title screen's menu and stuff, heh. I made it when I was, I dunno,.. 20? I even did the music. Oh, and it's got local multiplayer too. Come onnn. someone want it...

I LOVED THE PS3! One of my favorite consoles EVER! This was Sonys turning point in the companies history that changed it all! The success of the PS4 is the product of the PS3, but not for everyone says it was. The PS3 was a powerhouse. Kutaragi-san was just too smart for his own good. He was ten years ahead of the competition! The PS3 hardware housed innovation and genius. A high storage capacity disc of up to 50GB of storage space. A HDD in every console that was removable. The CELL PROCESSOR FOLKS! Come on! The GPU was pretty weak but considering. The controller was not only wireless, but it didn't require AA batteries, just plug in the cable and away you go. An ignorant person would say it was easy for Sony, because it wasn't. It was a challenge for them. Their hardware was complicated because it was designed by a mastermind, but it lasted ten years! It saw High Definition gaming, 3D gaming, motion controlled gaming, and it even rocked ambient occlusion in the Uncharted and Last of Us games, teselation in Gran Tourismo 6, and it even had HDR in Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. The Network outage was rough. Sony designed hardware they were proud of, and like any respectable business fought for that and they were attacked as a result of it. Microsoft could've gotten hacked just as easily but Sony was the underdog and thus the prime target. Microsoft were scared enough they tried to buy off the hacker with a Windows Phone and have him program for them, yes, they bought him off. But Sony came through it. What Sony learned most, and had been and has since been their biggest strength was they learned to rely less on third-party developers and have faith in and strengthen their first-party studios. Jack Tretton went to work on this painting a picture so grand for Naughty Dog, that they became Rockstars, yup. Sony focused on first-party developers and look at them today versus' the competition. The PS3, I believe is Sonys greatest achievement I think and ranks up there with the SEGA Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. I LOVED the PS3. The more I showed it to friends, the sooner they abandoned their 360 and got a PS3.
