A lot of northern states have school despite a foot of snow. The reason they don’t have snow days is because the streets are plowed and salted, and people have snow tires and chains. We don’t do that in DFW. I will say though that when I was a kid in Lewisville ISD we rarely, if ever got snow. And when we got it, often they would just have a delayed opening, meaning you still went to school at 10. I remember them doing this after giving us an entire day off in the mid 90s due to the snow, and after lunch time, all the snow was melted, and it felt like it was in the 70s. These days however, I will get notifications days ahead of time of the district closing, practically every year. They only gave the kids one bad weather day to make up this year. Not even a bad weather day at the end of the year like they used to! I’m betting it’s due to parents complaining about their vacation plans, even though, almost every year, they have to make up that day in May. Just plan for it, and leave the next day that isn’t set aside for that! Anyway, this mid day snow reminds me of my senior year in high school 25 years ago. The district decided to let out at 1, an hour after the storm started. Ok, so now you had all us kids with paper licenses on the road racing home in that. Didn’t benefit me any, since I had senior out. In fact, it meant that I was now caught in it with everyone else on the road. But don’t forget there are elementary and middle school kids. Their parents may be at work. They supposed to ride the bus and be home alone? Sure, back then, our parents probably wouldn’t get the email or phone call in time, if at all, but even today, are they supposed to drop what they’re doing and race home in that too?

Good on you keep up with school events. During the 2021 deep freeze, i walked to school only to find it empty, looked at the district website; closed. At least it was sorta fun seeing everyday locations covered in snow. Have fun!

I still remember when i went to school on the first day of the 2021 deep freeze and walked there freezing only to see that it was a ghost town. Checked the district website... closed (i didn't know the snow storm was that bad and that everything was normal, i was wrong)
