@martinschafer74042 жыл бұрын
I am always impressed by your analysis. One note here, in addition to being a response to haters there is a second concept. All of them chose 3 alternates of what would you be if you were not in Mamamoo. Moonbyul choreographer, director, CEO of a music company. Hwasa jazz singer, single mom, president. Solar boxer, vocalist for a drag queen rock group, daughter of the emperor's concubine. Wheein activist, artist, indie singer songwriter. There is a set of 12 trailers with footage not in MV that shows more about the individual characters.
@Dardove2 жыл бұрын
So one thing I want to talk about with Moonbyul is that being a rapper wasn't her dream. She went into idol trainee programs wanting to be a vocalist (and dancer). She was ultimately told by RBW that if she wanted to debut then she would have to be a rapper so got training to be a rapper. This is not that uncommon, where a company will have someone who is weaker at vocals compared to the rest of the group (and let's face with Solar, Wheein, and Hwasa in the group it is a very high bar to clear), but the company still wants them in the group they will get pushed to be a rapper. She however absolutely took to it like a fish to water and was quickly excelling at it and writing her own raps. So now she is the veteran rapper, who absolutely owns on stage. Speaking of rappers seems Solar will be rapping on her comeback next week. She had a teaser this week which was various people reacting to the songs on headphones (including Moonbyul, Jessi, and Mijoo) and a couple of them pointed out the rapping part. I like how in each of the universes in this music video, no matter what path they took, they still ended up being a success. As usual, you hit it out of the part with catching the meaning. Always love to see more reactions to Mamamoo (along with Dreamcatcher, Everglow, Epik High, and of course, Bibi). I look forward to you checking out their sister group Purple Kiss, who I have a feeling you will be checking out one way or another by the end of the month.

Not just that Moonbyul didn't know anything about rap originally: in the beginning, she learned rap _from Solar!_ Moonbyul said she made her rap over and over in front of her, and encouraged her when she was feeling like she can't do it.
@Dardove2 жыл бұрын
@@AmadanMath Nice. I didn't know Solar helped her with her rap. I just knew about Hanhae teaching her and helping her with her rap on Mr. Ambiguous.

Yup, moonbyul has thanked both solar and hwasa for helping her learn to rap at various times. And solar is probably the biggest hiphop fan of the quartet. It's definitely going to be interesting seeing her official rap debut at last

I can't really think of a better way to say this, but their existence not as a group but as individuals in and of themselves is iconic. When I first started getting into K-pop, Mamamoo was one of the two groups that started this crazy adventure for me. Fell in love with them quite easily. In an industry that can have some, let's be honest, ruthless standards and expectations, to see people like the members of Mamamoo unapologetically be themselves is refreshing and deserves respect. There are obviously other people and groups that live their life this way and they deserve just as much respect, but Mamamoo were the first I interacted with like this so they have a bit more sentiment. They're an amazing group of people. Thanks for the reactions!

The Purple Hawke guide helps explain what this song is all about after Hwasa kept dealing with so much hate. It was crazy! The president hwasa dresses inappropriate at airport news line and the panties sticking out line is a direct reference to the problems she was having with netizens! I love this song and mv. These women are trend setters and don't take no for an answer, they do what they want to do! I love it! Great break down as always!!!! Also thought you should know.. Moonbyul does that chair thing in the love performance too!!! So cool!

Excellent first view analysis. On one hand Hip is a diss track mocking their haters as people who spit in their own faces and don't even realize that rather than tearing them down all the bs criticism just makes them stronger. On the other hand it's a message song where Hip is re-defined to mean being yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual meaning of cool or trendy. The roles they play in the alternate universe versions of themselves are all women who are unusual in one way or another - even Hwasa in the most traditional role of mom has a unique sense of housecleaning fashion and clearly marches to her own beat. As you said, the point is to be yourself, love yourself and have confidence that you're good enough as you are regardless of your choice of lifestyle, fashion or career and don't worry about the naysayers who try to bring you down. Overall Hip conveys a positive, empowering message that embraces difference and diversity (such as the inclusion of the drag musicians in Solar's glam band) and I love the way they try to get the haters to clean up their act (stop spitting in your own face, you fool) rather than simply returning hate for hate. Mamamoo has always been one of kpop's biggest shit magnets but RBW advised them not to respond publicly until Hip. I think the things that changed their mind were the celebrity suicides during the previous year or so prior to Hip and Mamamoo's concerns about the effect of malicious comments, internet bullying and the outright lies and slander that they and many other people have endured. MMM has made a point of trying to combat those things since Hip, addressing the issue in their songs, statements and via a projected message at a year-end award show and RBW announced that they would vigorously prosecute anyone who targets their artists in an illegal manner. Mamamoo's social consciousness is one of the reasons they've become role models for many girls, women and younger idols.

What you might not know is that a lot of the things they mention come from actual events. For example, Solar is kind of infamous for not washing her hair when she doesn't have to, to the point that the other members publicly shamed her for it (playfully, not in a mean way). Hwasa in particular has a lot of wardrobe-related "issues". In particular, the airport "incident" is real. When not performing, she dresses very casually, and she was photographed in an airport with what looks like boxers sticking out from the top of her trousers. Of course, the press immediately jumped on the "scandal". One fun story was when she got "caught" by papparazzi wearing a shirt without a bra. Again, huge scandal, how can she go out without a bra... (this is also related to a feminist movement in Korea which is very frowned-upon, to say the least) Next thing you know, she goes out in a sports bra, without a shirt. :D "I'm gonna do me" is totally her motto. And despite all the "scandals"... when she ate intestines on a TV show, intestines were sold out in the whole Korea, and the original restaurant became a chain. From then on, whatever she does is hip: she's caused multiple other items to be sold out simply because she was filmed using them.
@kudgeond7552 жыл бұрын
Great comment but you got a couple of events switched up. She wore a crop top that looked like a sports bra to the airport first and then when she got shit for "wearing a bra" the next time she went to the airport she didn't wear a bra at all. It's very similar to her response to the shit storm over her red-hot hot red outfit for their performance at the 2018 MAMA award show. For their next award show performance about a week later she wore black lingerie as if to say "If you thought the MAMA outfit was too sexy then how do like this one, bitches?" lol

WOW I love your reaction. Hwasa I also think is stunning there is something very magnetic about her. I don't know if you have checked it out yet but search for REFUND SISTERS and the track don't touch me. This is a female supergroup but a one off which is so disappointing because let me just say it is fire from start to finish. The group came from a tv show in Korea called Hang out with YOO. This group has one woman in her 50's one in her 40's one in her 30's and one in her 20's The 52 year old is Uhm Jung-hwa who is the biggest and most influencial actresses and entertainers in the business the fact that she got cancer of the throat and beat it make her an exceptional performer. They say she is 50 yet looks the same as a 20+year old is phenomenal. Lee Hyori is 42 and was in a group of her own and is considered to be the original QUEEN of K POP and I will admit not heard a lot about her but remedying that over time Jessi and we all know Jessi she is bleeding phenomenal how that woman has not broken into mainstream like BTS and BLACKPINK is criminal. I love everything about her. and finally we have the 4 th member who is HWASA they only have one song but my god they should have put them together as a group

@@DGReacts Not at all! That’s my own opinion. Mamamoo does care about social issues, and you’re also right in that they were bringing attention to environmental issues (with Wheein in the beginning), I was just saying for that particular scene. Who knows, neither of us could be right haha. Mamamoo has never really bragged about volunteering or donations (we usually only know if they get listed by the organization), but they will show their support in other ways.
