Literally exactly what I figured out this week, thinking of straightening the arm asap when throwing has helped me so much! With both distance and accuracy

I was also focusing on this exact thing. I noticed I end my arms forward motion much sooner than Ricky or Goose. They seem to reach way out in front of them before finishing the snap.
@Oeugh7 ай бұрын
@@curtisridenour Yeah, Ricky was exactly who helped me as well, one Jomez video had a reverse slomo and it showed the exact moment the disc left his hand and I was like ”Thats wayyyyy out in front of him!” Its crazy how you can always find new little things to tweak in your form

Andrew marwede is way out in front and only 1finger grip. I can't explain it but I throw way better forehands with 1 finger. Maybe I'm reaching out more.

@@markhumphrey8894 I have a friend, an ex-professional basketball player who had a reallllly strong index finger and could throw forehand with only that. I confirm it's possible, but have no idea HOW ON EARTH!
@markhumphrey88947 ай бұрын
@@dgspindoctor I see your grip is middle finger on the rim and forefinger against it. That's my grip also. I've been investigating how the disc releases from the fingers. If the middle finger is longer and is the last point of contact then the disc slides along the forefinger then at the last second it has to drop down to the middle finger then off the tip of the middle finger. So, I think that induces wobble. I have tried 2 other grips with some success: 1. Have the forefinger on the rim and then stack the middle finger on the forfinger. So now the disc only slides on the forefinger. 2.Forefinger grip only. This only has 1 surface for the disc to slide over. I have never seen a video about anyone discussing the slow motion release of a disc off the fingers.

I've been playing disc golf for 10 years now and from the first days, my forehand shots have always left a "wow.." effect on people. I always thought my forehand is perfect and can't be improved. I tried your one tip from this video just for laughs: reach as far as possible. Jesus christ. I got some much more spin and cleaner release that my overstable discs started to hyzerflip. Amazing job with this video. t. Suami

Great tip! Something to add: RELAX the wrist and allow it to naturally flex backwards during the swing (instead of forcibly cocking it back).
@dgspindoctor7 ай бұрын
Right on! No wrist loading is necessary, on the contrary, as you said. Let it load and unload with the momentum.

This comment fixed my forearm shots. I realised I had actively moved my wrist instead of letting it move with the momentum. Suddenly they were flying straight with a good nose angle. Thanks!

Some advocate snapping your wrist when throwing side arm. That might be why they follow through too early in the throw. They are stopping their forward motion too soon, as you said. It’s great to have useful information for throwing forehand.

It makes sense when you say to extend the arm and show us during the tip portion but then when you throw the disc it just looks like a normal side arm that everyone throws and I don’t see the “reach as far” tip in action. 🤔
@dgspindoctor6 ай бұрын
You mean everyone who knows how to throw? Exactly. I try to teach you that, not the wobbly fart you see looking at bad throwers.
@TheAeroRising6 ай бұрын
@@dgspindoctor I'm just saying during the beginning of the video the arm is fully extended when you are giving that tip to reach as far as you can. Then when you actually throw the disc, it doesn't look like you are reaching as far as you can at all. It looks like a normal release.
@dgspindoctor6 ай бұрын
Yeah, when you try to do that, it looks like that. When you don't, it looks bad and wobbly. Why don't you give it a try instead arguing about it here? Many people did and found it super helpful.

When you release the disc, does it rip out of your hand, OR do you lift your thumb a little bit to let it fly? This is the thing I struggle to understand.
