DHAKA (Bangladesh) VS COLOMBO (Srilanka)

Dhaka (/ˈdɑːkə/ DAH-kə or /ˈdækə/ DAK-ə, Bengali: [ˈɖʱaka]) (ঢাকা), formerly known as Dacca,[10] is the capital and the largest city of Bangladesh. It is the ninth-largest and the sixth-most densely populated city in the world, with a population of 8.9 million residents within the city limits, and a population of over 21 million residents in the Greater Dhaka Area. Dhaka is the economic, political, and cultural center of Bangladesh, and is one of the major cities in South Asia, the largest city in Eastern South Asia and among the Bay of Bengal countries; and one of the largest cities among OIC countries. As part of the Bengal plain, the city is bounded by the Buriganga River, Turag River, Dhaleshwari River and Shitalakshya River.
Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, romanized: Kolamba, pronunciation [ˈkəlɐmbɞ]; Tamil: கொழும்பு, romanized: Kozhumpu, Tamil pronunciation: [koɻumbu]) is the commercial capital[3] and largest city of Sri Lanka by population. According to the Brookings Institution, Colombo metropolitan area has a population of 5.6 million,[4][5][6][7] and 752,993[2] in the city proper. It is the financial centre of the island and a tourist destination.[8] It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to the Greater Colombo area which includes Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the legislative capital of Sri Lanka and Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Colombo is often referred to as the capital since Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is within the urban area of, and a suburb of, Colombo. It is also the administrative capital of the Western Province and the district capital of Colombo District. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life, colonial buildings and monuments.[9]

Dhaka is a much bigger city than Colombo. If I'm not mistaken the population of Dhaka itself is around 22M which is equal to the entire population of Sri Lanka. I've been visiting Dhaka since 2000. Actually, I've been there in different eras - 2000 - 2002, 2010-2011, and 2018 to date (I'm currently in Dhaka). Every time I visited Dhaka, I've seen substantial development in terms of infrastructure, education, health, the standard of living, attitudes, etc, etc. People of both countries are generally friendly. (Dhaka is just like my second home). In terms of cleanliness, yes Colombo is better than Dhaka. It's something to do with the attitude of the people towards the environment. But again I can see a reasonably good advancement there too. Love from Sri Lanka!

Yeah absolutely but compared to land mass we have a proper population to easily manage.. Our population growth rate is 0.6 -.0.7% one of the lowest rate in the world and really women are much educated here. All the university are full with female students. After the Civil war the government just gave their full attention to the development of infrastructure and the beauty of cities as well. Then they just started to turn Colombo into a Modern and Green City. If u visit you will see how we have made it green and clean.

Colombo easily wins, though I am Bangladeshi. Colombo seems to be well planned, well spaced, well built, well maintained, clean and tidy city. While dhaka is maybe the most unplanned city in the world, terrible traffic jam, waste here and there beside the road, shit load of crowd anywhere you go. Almost no greenery, terrible water dis-pension system so there is knee high water just after 1 hour of rain, mosquitos and so on. Dhaka is city of sufferings in many ways. Anyway great job Srilanka, very nice to see your clean and beautiful capital, wish to visit there someday. Keep growing, lots of love.
