The problem with these skits is that the worse types of racism is the type of racism that isn’t in your face. Nobody takes over the top racists like this seriously, because it’s easy to pick them out of a crowd & ignore them. Very few people act like that in real life so portraying racism like that misrepresents the issue & makes people fight for the wrong things.
@yagadoobigidibobbibigabiga382 жыл бұрын
even worse is that the kinds of people who makes these skits rarely ever actually touch on the tough topics like racism, they'll call it judging someone by their looks then write the absolute most racist lines ever then say the message is "don't judge a book by its cover." yes it is that, but if you plan to tackle large scale issues, you better be prepared to call the issue out exactly and not slap it under an umbrella term of prejudice because then you just look scared to talk about exactly what your skits are about, and in that case you might as well not even make them.

@@bxbeop8695 that's not even my main problem, I haven't seen every dhar mann video so it really doesn't matter to me whether he does or not because all of the ones I've seen are theatrical, inaccurate portrayals of the worst case scenario. it's that this man absolutely refuses to pinpoint things in a realistic light and almost makes his point a laughingstock with the way he portrays so many actual real life scenarios, then goes ahead and refuses to actually call it racism or classism or whatever it is. for all the "work" he tries to say he's doing portraying all these discriminatory situations, he doesn't ever put the right message to the right content and his message goes to waste. there's nothing to learn if you don't teach the right thing with the content you pair it with.

The fact that all those "don't mistreat people" message always just end up in "because they can be actually rich people!" while they basically allow them to be racist the entire story just ends up with the message that "racism is not a problem at all! Being poor is!"
@j.woodard24522 жыл бұрын
Which is a neoliberal talking point. "Race doesn't matter" only applies if you're in a homogeneous country. You can only be judged by your class or occupation or education or skin tone(in some places, like India), but not your race if you're already around people who look like you. So, Dhar Mann is really coming off as a neoliberal who has never faced discrimination based on race or skin color, just class and education. People put their hands up when they answer they don't believe racism exists, but they put their hands down when asked if they want to be another race in their country. That's always telling.

@kaidama2 жыл бұрын
@@Hiiragi1313 No he doesn't actually. Most solutions are based on money, hypothetical conculsions of wrong doings with almost instant karma. It isn't realistic. With this video in particular that is covered, it highlights the fact US people of colour are not respected unless we are financially capable of payment, showing finacial worth. Not everyone is rich and having money shouldn't be the only thing deserving of respect. Even when we as black people have money, we are still assumed to being doing fruad, stealing things. On the news, on the media, young black men and even women are often pulled up by the police if they have an expensive car, even when they have proof of owning it. They will do anything to take it away. You'll be in court for years fighting a case that doesn't even exist. This is just one of the many problems people of colour face. Though in this video she does not let her in her home, the "instant karma" thing is still not realistic. And there was no proper reaction to the racism she faced. Most of us DO retaliate, because if we are quiet. We are never heard. And even though the topic was clearly racism, they never address it as racism. This lessens the importance of the issue. It isn't even properly highlighted! This is why the message in these blatantly racist videos is bad. His other videos can be a whatever sometimes, but it generalises things that shouldn't be generalised. Not everyone is going to break down on the spot and have a sob story, it doesn't cost anything to be kind, but it takes a lot of thought to be malicious. It can get to the stage where you lash out at others, show prejudice and discriminate without being aware of it being wrong. Everyone is forgiven in these videos, racism isn't something that everyone is willing to forgive. The damage is permanent and on going, building up once dealt. It's not something you can spout a few words of a half a##ed sorry and be done with. The process of forgiveness is much longer for others. The realization, of knowing you are in the wrong is painful, and often doesn't happen straight away even with consequences thrown right at you. So really, what are the messages in these videos, because it isn't teaching reality.

@@nahma2317 I definitely agree with you. I think he definitely has some good intention and I don’t think he means any harm. I just think he misuses some of the phrases and try to make certain situations fit that phrase when it doesn’t. You shouldn’t discriminate against someone wether you get to know them or not. I think he needs to find new phrases to use to fit those situations 😭
