As a person being born here with immigrant parents, it's hard to adapt here in the United States. Most people don't have the opportunity to learn English, and it's tough. I got that opportunity. I was lucky enough to learn English in my second year of elementary school with help from the most best teacher that could ever exist. Now, I am still learning English, but I get to help my parents understand it.
@KristinRyans
@KristinRyans Жыл бұрын
Come on.. that just sounds like complete bs! You can’t possibly be born in a certain country and not learn the main language! You are after all surrounded by it, even if you’re in an immigrant community there’s still media, TV, school (that is in english) unless you specifically enrol in a foreign school…plus the bilingual kids usually tend to speak the county’s main language more, whenever they’re not being specifically approached in the other language. They tend to lean more on the main language of the country not the language spoken in their home. For example i was a teacher in a Bulgarian school in America, and in class we would speak in bulgarian, but before after and between classes kids would communicate in english between each other. How can you possibly be born in a country and live there for 20+ years and be so shielded from the main language that it feels like foreign ??? What kind of isolated community do you live in?

I've noticed it a lot too. I think some people are just too old to learn new stuff and lack any friends or incentive to help. I'm probably too old too. When the US dollar becomes worthless I'll probably just stay here and fight rather than go elsewhere.

As a half viet with a Vietnamese mum, my mum also has a very thick accent which causes a lot of embarrassment she feels because she also migrated as an adult which caused a lot discrimination because she was always singled out on the way to English classes with her sister all because of the fact she was asian. People don’t realise how much they struggle due to the miscommunication of accents. It’s nice to know people take notice of the struggles they go through migrating to places like the US, Australia, Canada and more mainly caused by language barrier.

When I got adopted from Korea, I was very young so English is what i grew up with. But my parents adopted two more from Russia as well. They didn’t know English so we learned Russian to welcome them to our family. Years later I still remember some Russian. So the learning curve of languages and the available resources to learn English we can relate to. Thanks Dhar for the videos! Great job

the way Mihn speaks in English, reminds me of my mom when she cries and talks in English. I don't like to see people cry, because It'll make me cry. But this is probably the only Dhar Man video, that made me cry more than 2 times. Mihn Is really smart and good in what she does but with broken English. That's exactly like my mom, but my mom is Cambodian/Khmer. It's not fair that other people make fun of other people's cultures and how they communicate in their language. I really loved this video. Even the food "Bahn Mi", I recognize it! Bahn Mi is similar to our Khmer Sandwiches called "Num Pang." And I think that the acting and the crying is amazing. Love it!

This video reminds me of how I was struggling to learn English when I was young. It was very difficult for me because I had to help my family at the same time since they didn't know the culture and the language. On top of that, people were making fun of me and bullying me in school. After watching this video, I feel grateful that I was able to learn English in public school because I came at younger age.

If someone is over the age of 20+ years old and needs to go to college or university and people tell him that you need to go back to "high school ", then you don't need to go back to high school, just go to a college where you can upgrade your subjects. Once you're done with your subjects, you can apply for college or university and then apply for work. If you can't speak English well, but your computer skills are good, then you can't apply for a job. You need to have language and computer skills. Even if you had to apply for the same job in your home country, they will tell you that you're missing something in your academic papers. Having a person to teach you a language you can't understand in just a few months won't help. You need to be able to speak the language before you can apply for the job. Being familiar with everything about everything is the right way.
