I’ve seen so many complaints about the island being useless. I guess if I TikTok all day.. scroll Facebook to see how many likes I get.. or complain on Reddit about all the flaws of the $1200 phone that most don’t even buy themselves.. well I can see that the island wouldn’t be of much use. But for those of us who have lives.. pay our own bills.. have real friends.. have food we cook and set timers and all the other adult things we do.. well, Dynamic Island rocks. Easy: Many modern Android have only a very small camera hole or front camera totally hidden behind the screen. The minimum size of Apple solution is really large. Most of the time it is of not much use. Example: If i had a timer open i do normally not let the screen on all the time. If i let music play also screen normally is off - okay not completly as i have a phone with always on screen where the music player is then still displayed. I only watched these to points in the video. But therefore i also see not a big usecase for the island for me, just a big waste of screen if i watch a video. I find it way better to NOT see a large camera area. This is one of the main reasons keeping me away from private iphones. Bussiness - 2 year are over, i get a new one after the 13... and wanted to know before what the island is. And to be honest - for me a bit disappointing. It does not diplay anything which my private phone does not do on top of the screen (okay, tht one does not do it on a black shape shifting background - but who cares.)

It’s because not a lot of options are available at the moment to show where it’s consistently active. As more app developers add their widgets in you will see less timers in videos lol. But I do use the timer a lot.

Yooo, upgraded from 12 to 15 pro. I have KZbin premium and sometimes I’m playing Pokémon go or browse socials while the video is playing, but with the Dynamic Island I can’t do that anymore because instead of the vid popping on the sides I have just the still image on the Dynamic Island like Im listening to music. I have the same issues with apps like KZbin. But in KZbin settings two general and turn on the switch for Picture in Picture (pip). Then it will return to a MiniPlayer instead of the Dynamic Island.

They keep on saying that this is a combination of hardware and software just to sell you the pro model. It's purely a software feature and has nothing to do with the placement of the notch, it can easily be reworked to work with the old notch by modifying a few animations here and there and the buttons placement. Yet again Apple is overselling minor design adjustments... To be honest, I'm just waiting for a decent feature to upgrade my iPhone 12 Pro, but it seems I'll be waiting for some time as they are once again selling the same phone as last year with bigger cameras.

Lol very true but it is technically the hardware placement and the software working with it that does it. See Androids already working this same feature in with skins etc so it’s definitely possible with notch iPhones.

Agreed. All they did was tighten the notch and created fancy animations around it. The pill placement looks a bit lower than the previous notch placement so that extra but of screen above the pill is functionally useless. It's all software gimmick to create these animations around the notch and annoying.

Nope it’s just a feature that is set by default and when various apps are open or notifications are active it will appear in that spot. You have various options based on the app or notifications

Wait ios doesn't have a consistent light and dark mode? I noticed that the widget and the dock had white overlay background, so i thought it's in light mode. Then when the control center is brought up the buttons have black overlay. And the clock app is in dark mode entirely.

You don’t have much control about how Dynamic Island works. You can set the call to the old way in notifications though.

Try restarting the phone and see if that works or delete and reinstall the app. If the app updated and no longer supports it then maybe that is the issue.

iPhone 14 Plus doesn’t have dynamic island as it has the notch. Only iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have the pill shape for dynamic island.

Not sure, is WhatsApp even supported yet? Only apps that support it work. The developers have to update their apps to work with it. Try updating all your apps in the App Store.

It's a gimmick. Nothing but visual pizzazz. Very awkward to move your finger way up there. Just not ergonomic. Plus too much fancy movements and motions that is frankly distracting. It's like my MacBook pro with the dynamic touch bar. The functions are constantly changing and flashing and just fancy visuals but awkward for true productivity. It gets annoying. Does anyone else agree?

I agree to an extent. I feel like it’s useful and ads functionally in some cases but a lot is gimmicky. I don’t like that reachablility on the iPhone doesn’t work with it. The dynamic island stays stuck at the top while the rest of the screen pushes down. There should also be a setting to customize it or remove it all together

There was a function with the dynamic island that when you scrolled on a webpage or something, and when you clicked on the dynamic island that you went straight to the beginning (to the top) of the webpage, does somebody know where I can find this setting?

It’s not consistent and I tried now to make it happen. Try holding on it, double tapping but like I said it’s inconsistent and wouldn’t work when I tried it.
