Unfortunately, he is adapting to this new trap dancehall thing too. Listen to his latest production with Govana "Strike Force". The riddim lacks the usual creative style and elements of Di Genius. That's the issue with trap beats, it stifles creativity.

I loved the sound of dancehall through the many stages from early 80s, late 80s, 90s and early 2000s to late 2000s. I am just not feeling how it sounding today.

I agree to an extent. Let's not paint a picture like dancehall music alone hate evolving. Hip Hop struggle with the same problem with the rise of mumble rap, trap, drill. R&B has the same problems too. What we are lacking is artist development and a structure. You can put 90% of these artist on major platform to do an interview and they can't communicate 2 good sentences in english.

When you hear Hip Hop or R&B you are sure its hip hop or R&B, when you hear a dancehall/trap/riddim you are not sure if it is dancehall cause it has more hip hop element than dancehall element. the most you can say is a jamaican artist on the riddim., for this reason when the foreigners do any form of jamaican or dancehall sound we can clearly identify that they trying to make our music, but yet our music doesnt have that sound. so in my opinion it needs to be fixed, it needs identification.

Dancehall gatekeepers want to hold on to the power of yesteryear. They want to hold on to their reputation and former glory and always use it against the youth of today. I wish more people fans and media personnel alike would be as fair minded and forward thinking as Di Genius. The most important point Stephen made was if it is that they want to say that 90s dancehall was the best why no produce 90s dancehall beats and give di yute dem mek try and reach those heights and success too...if u ever try sample one of their beats they hit you with a lawsuit. Like I said before they teach most of dem rather beat them complain that dancehall stagnant when they themselves play a large role in that. Imagine if Di Genius did listen to some a dem ole heads deh? Ironically it was the real ones who pulled him a side and encouraged to continue on is innovative riddims. Time is always the master. It gotten the the point where artist have to use gimmicks on social media to keep their brands from fizzling. The music not hitting. Reggaeton and Afrobeats artists don't spend that much time on social media because they're either touring (pre Covid speaking) or in the studio cooking up quality music. There's no demand for these Jamaican artists, so they have to use social media to make a buzz for themselves.

Can’t agree with Genious on this topic at all. Dancehall had drugs man support back then? Dancehall has social media now unlike 90s! He has the OGs argument way out of context Music will always evolve but when you take it too far from the root then it will lose identity When it’s over influenced by other genres it loses originality and the way dancehall is done now makes it difficult to generate that electric vibe at stage shows that 80s and 90s dancehall shows had back then and that’s why there’s the popular argument that new school artist can’t perform live.
