Great video Ellyse. Thank you so much for sharing. I had a horrible time with panic attacks that stemmed from diabetes-related anxiety when I was in my undergrad. I feel like it's a lot more common among diabetics than one would think.

I'm so happy you made this video. Mental health needs to be talked about WAY more than it is, especially mental heath and t1d. I have been struggling with social anxiety and panic attacks. Diabetes has definitely made both of these issues worse. So, you are not alone. Love you so much. Stay strong!

When I was diagnosed last year I often struggled to see any light during that dark time. For me it was faith, my family, and my church which got me through and continues to support me. Now a year later I can see how working through all that has made me a better husband, father, and man in general. I feel for you and it's people like you who have struggled with it so long that help me know that I'm not alone. Thanks for sharing Ellyse.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was also diagnosed at 15 and also suffer from panic attacks from time to time . I think doctors are so concerned sometimes with numbers on meters and blood test results they forget the impact it can have on us mentally. You are obviously strong, I'd love to hear more of your story x

15 is definitely a tough age! And you're right, it's hard to find a doctor who sees the whole picture. After receiving kind comments like yours, I will definitely be sharing more of my journey :)

So awesome of you to share this. I couldn't make a video. Maybe one day. But I too have type 1 and it's been a struggle for 26 years. My sister for 33 years. A cousin for 40+ years. I've felt similar mental issues but never went to a doctor for that. Years of self medicating and denial that I was even diabetic. Just a stubborn and careless way of life and I've suffered by being blind in one eye because of it. I've lost girlfriends because I couldn't talk about my pain to them and held it all in. So it inspires me that you share your story Ellyse and I appreciate you and all your videos. Idk if I'd do my own but as of late I know the power of talking about all of these issues and getting it off your chest. So thanks again 😊

Wow, sounds like you have really been through a lot. This is the side of Diabetes the general public doesn't see/understand. I'm glad I could inspire you, and if you ever choose to make a video I will definitely watch it and support you however I can!

Type 1 at 4 and now I'm 47 , I've had crazy high and lows . Not till I was 44 did I admit I needed some mental health, looking at me I look like a athlete with crazy strength. My mind would race and some times spiral down into depression. My Dr. Told me he was waiting to introduce me to a specialist who will help me , he also walked me to the Dr office so I couldn't skip out and with some simply sit and talk I got help. I suffer from PTSD , bipolar , depression. I'm not the guy to show weaknesses or ask for help and no one could tell , I was dieing inside. I never have shared this with anyone except my wife so please take this seriously what I've shared. Don't wait like I did , your not alone and there is help for all of us. Please ask for help , it can get much better with some trial and error. Hope this helped at least one of us today. If I can help just ask , you can feel much better with some simple help. Stay strong. : )

Totally Randomic : I hope you never come to the point of even thinking of hurting yourself. You know like I do there's no one answer for everyone. If you have a hobby, I found that my hobbies helped me stay positive. My things to do were racing my motorcycles and competitive shooting. I know it sounds like a recipe for disaster but it worked for me. One thing I did learn.... I have to be able to laugh at my self, that one eased a lot of stress. Wish you well, and have some fun when possible.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have an ongoing struggle with diabetes and anxiety/an eating disorder, which is so complicated as they're linked in so many ways! Like you i had a fear of carbs, but i also struggled with the fact that doctors/MH nurses assumed i was restricting insulin,,, which i never have! I actually have the opposite issue, i am so fixated on having good control and am petrified of highs, I'm currently working to get my HBA1C UP, as it's far too low. Oh gosh i have ramvlewd so much! But it's just such a relief and comfort to watch this. Please know how brave i think you are and i really hope you can see that for yourself. All my love xxx

Thank you for sharing ❤️ you are so strong and brave for putting your story out there. I know a lot of us can relate. I have struggled with depression my entire life but when I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 yrs ago I started having severe anxiety. I've been able to get it better under control now, but I definitely understand how difficult and debilitating it can be. Much love to you!

Your videos inform so many people and we appreciate what you do. It's inspirational to see someone who is an individual with T1D, while being someone is not DEFINED by T1D. No one thinks its easy, but there is no possible way to realize how many people you have helped or inspired. As a parent of a T1D daughter (diagnosed five months ago, age 12), you have allowed me to have a REAL perspective on living and thriving with the condition. Never stop! And I appreciate what you do and your honesty. When my daughter was first diagnosed I read, and prayed and cried, because I didn't know what the future held. YOU and YOUR VIDEOS dried my tears and pushed me to get it together and change my perspective. I am pretty certain that I am not the only one who feels this way. Your impact, on my life at least, has been significant.

Honestly, I am in tears after reading this comment. It brings me so much joy to know that I can do that for someone - and in this way, you have had an impact on my life as well. Your daughter is in safe hands with you, and nothing is going to stop her from having a full, happy life.

To expand on what you said about death and anxiety, I feel like living with any kind of anxiety disorder is like having for a constant companion a violent drunk who likes to, at random times, take out his gun and hold it to your head. And you don't know if it's ever loaded or not, but he definitely has an itchy trigger finger does that one. Then there's OCD, which is also an anxiety disorder, but with the added prospect of losing your mind thrown into the mix. Say the drunk's bullets are filled, not with lead, but capsules of LSD that may be shot into your head at any moment and destroy your reality. Then there's the diabetes management, of course, which unlike the fears of OCD or anxiety, are actually really real and bound to happen at some point--and that by itself can strengthen the anxiety in a way, sort of like saying "see? there's a basis for the anxiety after all." Anyway, I liked your video, Ellyse. I can definitely relate to a lot of it, but not all. You've been through worse than I have, but have managed to fight back and have things look up for you. It gives me hope and strength. Thank you for that.

Thank you for sharing Ellyse! I've struggled with depression and general anxiety disorder along with diabetes as well. I had depression before and I definitely think diabetes can exacerbate it but as you said sometimes you just want to deal with one and not all of it combined. Super awful and annoying. It's wonderful that you're open about it and it was nice for me to hear.

Diabetes is with you 24/7 you can't escape it :( it is tough I've been on the verge of giving up several times but somehow I learned how to live with it. I'm now on the 13th year with diabetes even though I have accepted it it's still very tough. I'm already seeing the effects of my diabetes such as reduced feeling in my feet and eye problems and I've been taking care of my diabetes very good, I'm almost in range in every medical checkup but still I got it :( and to all the people that thinks that if you take your insulin everything will be fine well I did that look how it ended up for me.

Thankyou this really reassured me . I was diagnosed at 14 ( I’m almost 17 now ) and the hospital experience and just the entire transition freaked me out and I’ve been struggling on and off with anxiety . This video reassured me and made me realize I’m not the only one !

Thanks for sharing. Diabetes run in my family. I have a brother who was diagnosed early and has had amputations. He refuses to seek help for his mental health and it's really effecting his decision making. I spoke with his doctor one time about it but he insisted that my brother is just being hard headed by continually eating the wrong foods. I just know it is deeper than that...

Thank you for your video. I feel like diabetes is a common label that the general public give us and not a serious disease because ppl are uneducated about it and its not them dealing with it on a daily basis. Most ppl are insensitive to a diabetic s feelings.
