Come on in and take a peek at how I organize my Type 1 Diabetes Supplies! ◉ Subscribe: goo.gl/ZfjYfu
I love organizing and tidying in general (just call me Monica) , but I feel particularly empowered and driven to organize my diabetes supplies because it allows me to relax and focus on things that are completely unrelated to my T1D! So come on in, brew a cup of tea or coffee, and relax because we're about to get organizized!

I served 6 years as an active duty Marine. I had all the symptoms of being a diabetic my career but just thought to suck it up. I got discharged in Feb 2020 and I lost 50 lbs from April to June. I was in keto acidosis. Turns out I was a Type 1 lol. Just got officially diagnosed last week.

That is terrible to go undiagnosed with the impression that you should just "suck it up". I am glad you got a diagnosis!

For all my supplies, I use a shoe organizer! Just hangs on my bedroom door, so no wasted drawers for me, plus easy to see what I have and to be able to grab and go. Then my insulin just gets put in the butter compartment... which never has butter in it, so I call it the insulin compartment. 💉🤣 your organization is great too! I feel like you need to be when you’re a type 1.

Ohhhh! A shoe organizer is such an excellent idea! I LOVE THAT! Definitely going to use that idea if I ever move into a place that can spare a little closet space! Hehe!! And yes - the butter compartment! That's a classic! That's where I kept my insulin in my family home when I was growing up! Never butter in there...right you are! Hehe!! Thank you so much for sharing!!

I don’t recommend what I do but I’ve found it works for me as I like to travel light. On holidays I will pack a Dexcom sensor which I will usually need plus another in case things go wrong. I use Fiasp insulin cartridge way past it’s expiry because I hate waste and I know from experience it still works with me absolutely fine (ie 6 to 8 weeks after taking it out of the fridge), extra needles because you just never know, Skin-tac wipes, alcohol wipes and a few bottles of Lift lemon and lime glucose shots just in case x

I think your MO sounds FANTASTIC!!! And well done to you for not wasting insulin - gosh I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU!! I try to do this as well - as long as the insulin is still effective I see no reason to not use it - but that's totally just me, and like you say - perhaps this is not advisable - but in this world, I absolutely never ever ever want to waste insulin because that's madness when so many don't have the insulin to stay alive - SO very important!!!

I just got diagnosed with LADA (latent autoimmune diabetes in adults), and I know my end game is complete insulin deficiency. Right now I have a freestyle libre so my doctors can see if I need insulin right away or if I can hold on a little longer without. So right now I’m just googling everything so I’m prepared for when I need all of these stuff. It’s really overwhelming, actually, but seeing all of you KZbinrs being very casual about helps a lot. I may need insulin one week from now, I may need it 10 years from now, and the wait is just killing me. Right now, I almost want to get it straight away just so I don’t have to wait around for it... I’m trying to deal with it 😅 anyway, just wanted to say that your videos really help settle my anxiety! 😊

25 years after being diagnosed, I'm still on MDI, but finally starting to really think about getting a pump. I simply love your idea of having prefilled (transparent) supply bags you can just grab whenever you're going out and about. I can also relate on the things you had to think about prior to being away from home for several months. I did my own fair share of calculations before I moved from Germany to Canada for a Working Holiday of 14 months. Took EVERYTHING with me, and did not have any issues with security or customs. If you have T1D some things are more challenging, that's true, but there's still a lot of possibilities if you plan them thoroughly enough.

I really need to organize my supplies. Right now, my pump stuff and my Dexcom stuff (along with the insulin vial I'm currently using) are all in my office since I work from home and tend to change those in the morning. Also, the office is fairly cool/ temperature stable, but types of supplies are in the cardboard boxes they were shipped in. also, tax papers are strewn about and my first aid supply container is a mess. Basically, I need to organize everything in this room. LOL. Oh, and my blood sugar testing stuff is somewhere in either my purse or in my mess of a bedroom, and who knows where my glucose tablets are....

Hi Jake! Wow, your words are so generous and kind - thank you so so much! I am so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis - this must be an incredibly difficult time for you - and understandably so!! And I SO get the feeling of loneliness with this disease - honestly this is why I started my channel in the first place, because I felt so alone and needed to reach out and connect with others. KZbin and Instagram have been lifesavers for me in this regard - I so encourage you to engage with people on there, as it really helps make one feel less alone! My wife (Type 1) and I have been married for 11 years and we were watching your YT videos together when she suddenly became a little jealous. She said she saw my pupils dilated large as soon as I laid eyes on you. I told her I can’t help that, because besides Andrea being very informative, she is also incredibly beautiful and mine is just a normal straight male human reaction. I was able to smooth things over by saying “honey, you both share more than just type 1 in common, you are also both smoking hot🔥 clock stoppers” she didn’t think it was too funny as she grinned and then punched my arm but then we both smooched ❤️ and hugged. Thought I would share that with you. 😄 😁😁 Thanks for providing this valuable information to the public.

Love the organization! Thanks for sharing. We are just at the beginning of my 3 year olds type 1 diabetic journey and still figuring out how to store and organize all the supplies. Questions: where did you buy those glucose tabs and the bulk ones you mentioned? Also, where did you get those dexcom receiver skins? I’ve looked up colorful options because we have had a hard time finding the receiver when it’s in the original black skin if it’s misplaced around the house or car because it blends in, but only found one option on amazon that’s silicone/rubbery and not like the original one that snaps onto the back like the blue one I see you have. Thanks!

You might want to put the batteries in another, smaller plastic bag within your grab and go bag as sometimes they leak after a while. If you know to use them or rotate them, then this might not be necessary, but I've come across a few cases where one battery's seal gives way and that white powdery type substance gets all over the place. This occurs with old unused batteries usually.

Sympathy for all of you who are recently diagnosed. I’m still traumatized 7 years later! Coping much better with the Dexcom CGM - what a difference! I HOPE for improvements in sensor length of time, reduction in those huge plastic chunks, and accuracy. After keeping all my Dia Crap in a box on my desk, I finally cleared out 2 dresser drawers. I keep my insulin wrapped in a shopping bag, in case of a grab & go emergency. I guess I need to figure out grab & go for the rest of it. Do you use FRIO ‘wallets’ for travel? @Blush Songbird----- But what concerns me, is that Andrea now gets compensated by Dexcom for her expensive diabetic necessities, her G6, and maybe money, too. That lessens her objectivity & credibility with me. Do you personally Blush Songbird, think that the G6 is the Best CGM device available today?

I liked your red box. When hypoglycemia can be much more effective to use conventional juice?It is very quickly absorbed and increases blood sugar, and to make an extra puncture of the skin when using glucagon is not necessary). I also liked your blood glucose meters. In Russia such there is no. These manufacturers have completely different models. I wonder how they differ?)

Great channel, and just subscribed! Do you know if there's a replacement timer cap, for your pen with Novo Rapid in it? Also, if you're using a pump, do you find you discard a lot of insulin pen cartridges, as you don't use them up in the recommended "use by" time? Thanks.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 4 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the family! So with regards to the replacement timer cap - I do believe timesulin makes all sorts of caps that fit a variety of insulin pens, so they almost certainly do one for the NovoRapid version. And with regards to your second question, yes, I do find that I waste more than I would like. However, to combat this, when I'm not using the pen I'll unscrew the needle and put it back in the fridge. Removing the needle is extremely important as if you leave it on it can introduce bacteria into the pen - something I didn't know when filming this video and people very kindly pointed out to me! I hope this helps!
@pokiebaron1
@pokiebaron1 4 жыл бұрын
@@ShesDiabetic Thanks Andrea! I'll be sure to look up Timesulin, and see if I can find a cap for my pen. I've also read that once a vile has been opened, it shouldn't be re-refrigerated, but I don't understand the logic of that, as using cool gel packs in warm weather seems to be OK, and recommended. I've also read/heard, not to leave a tip on a pen, as it can effect the accuracy of a dose, due to insulin leaking. Again, not sure how that would happen, as you do an air shot each time before a shot. Do you have any thoughts on that one? Thanks again! :-)

Hi and thanks for your video, Andrea. I just acquired a Freestyle libre after being made aware it was finally available in Canada. @@ShesDiabetic Thanks for responding, Andrea! So far so good after almost a week. It is true that you can see some differences with the blood glucose monitoring in the high's and the low's but nothing dramatic so far. After contacting Abbott I was made aware that the version 2 of the Libre was unfortunately not yet available in our country. I am about to experience the Libre at the pool as well and may come back to you with questions and comments on it. Cheers.

I’ve totally heard this before as well. Honestly I’ve tried both ways and I saw (what I observed to be) a diminished potency when the insulin was left out of the fridge once opened and therefore I ALWAYS refrigerate mine. Just my personal experience and take on things - but definitely my findings!
