*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

Diabetes mellitus type 2 has an average age of onset at around 45 as it is developed over time. In your daughter's case however I would find it more likely to be diabetes insipidus, even though its average onset is at around 10-20 years of age it can start at any age. It is always best to get in contact with your local healthcare institution to get your suspicions checked out :)

If you're overweight, just focus on losing weight. High BMI is exponentially associated with diabetes risk. BMI of 30 has a 28x higher risk, over 35 has a 90x higher risk. Interventional trials have shown weight loss to be extremely effective in treating diabetes if successful.

GLUT2 in the liver is always on the membrane, it's the GLUT4 in muscles and fat which is transported. In the liver, insulin inhibits gluconeogenesis and stimulates glycogenesis.

The basic thing driving type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance is too much insulin. Using insulin in the short term to avoid glucose toxicity is ok but continued usage just leads to heart attacks, cancer, obesity and on and on. Goal must be to lower insulin, not just control blood sugar.

Tks for this conceptual visualization. Tremendous skills and talent went into making work like this. It demonstartes a simple cycle? present in some or most? diabetic. At first you oresent high blood glucose starts initiation "cascade" which splits us (diabetics) into normal or abnormal. From there very last frame we see this "separation" . Has anybody tried just going backward to normal by starting high blood glucose again? Nothing to do with 'sugar' symptoms. Clean blood proteins , turn metal s(-s) enzymatic black.

I have a question here. If extra insulin produced by the pancreas doesn't work anymore due to insulin resistance of the organ tissues and skeletal muscles, then why would insulin injection (which pretty much has the same effect) help in reducing their blood sugar level?
@dishalini61347 жыл бұрын
that’s exactly my question too
@johnhogue94027 жыл бұрын
It's all about concentrations and likelihood. With a higher concentration of insulin in the blood, the likelihood that insulin will bind to an insulin receptor increases. The worse the insulin resistance, the more insulin is required to do the same job. That having been said, there is good evidence that tight control of blood sugar (via insulin injections) in diabetes doesn't actually help the patient.
@dr.scifreak7 жыл бұрын
In type II, insulin shots are only needed when beta cells exhaust themselves due to overproduction of insulin to compensate insulin resistance.

What does insulin do to fatty acids? Insulin inhibits breakdown of fat in adipose tissue by inhibiting the intracellular lipase that hydrolyzes triglycerides to release fatty acids. Insulin facilitates entry of glucose into adipocytes, and within those cells, glucose can be used to synthesize glycerol. www.vivo.colostate.edu › pancreas Physiologic Effects of Insulin -

Can fatty acids make acetyl CoA? Fatty acids are broken down to acetyl-CoA by means of beta oxidation inside the mitochondria, whereas fatty acids are synthesized from acetyl-CoA outside the mitochondria, in the cytosol. ... Instead the acetyl-CoA produced by the beta-oxidation of fatty acids condenses with oxaloacetate, to enter the citric acid cycle.

My first attempt to control my blood sugar was to eat a more low-carb diet, which helped a lot. If I stuck to a VERY restrictive diet I could keep my blood sugar where it needed to be. But if I had even so much one ham sandwich one white bread or one fast-food meal, my sugars would spike and stay elevated for quite awhile. I fundamentally distrust pharmaceuticals, believing that they often cure one problem only to cause one or more other problems. And I have tried herbal supplements, but the ones I tried did not work. With the Halki protocol, I still cannot eat anything I want, but I can eat a reasonable diet (some paste and white bread and the occasional fast-food meal) without my blood sugars spiking. And when I do eat some sugary treat, my blood sugar still spikes, but not like it used to. for mmore information visit here tinyurl.com/halkyremedy >

Not sure this is useful to you now, but for future reference: Initial treatment of T2DM is weight loss/lifestyle changes to reverse insulin resistance (since resistance depends on gene expression which can be reversed), as well as insulin-sensitising and releasing agents such as metformin or sulphonylureas. In late stage diabetes type II, the pancreatic cells become so hypertrophied and amyloid plaques proliferate so far, that beta cells stop producing insulin, and then insulin injections are necessary, since the issue stops being hyperinsulinaemia but rather hypoinsulinaemia like in T1DM

Do I understand correctly that first insulin secretion increases due to ineffective clearance of sugar molecules out of blood and later on decreases significantly due to atrophy of beta cells? I am a bit confused and looking for an answer because I can recall from pathology clinics that we were jokingly “locked” in the auditorium by out lecturer (with a good sense of humour) until someone says correctly whether insulin goes up or down during initial stages of insulin resistance development 🤣 I replied that it goes up and we were released 🤣 many years later I am keen to understand why this happens

We have been controlling my husband's T2D with diet for 30 years with very low carb, high olive oil. Now I learn that whey protein powder, while reducing blood glucose, does it by SPIKING INSULIN for hours - which is bad. I got into a couple of Australian sites and found that it has been known since at least 1997 that blood glucose means very little. It is the Insulin Demand Index that is relevant. A low carb item such as whey can be horrible because the insulin spike dramatically, while you sit with your blood glucose meter none the wiser. Can you shed any light on this, which flies in the face of the medical advice we have been given? Thanks.
@opritchard86117 жыл бұрын
Mary G sadly its not as simple as that, plus most of the studys looking at Insulin Demand Index state as a conclusion that its not an appropriate indicator for diabetic control. Furthermore you have to look at study size and patient experience. Its true many proteins cause insulin spike because of its involvement but genetic predisposition plays a huge role in the impact of insulin resistance and level of insulin release, rather than mere indexes, this is because of the cascade of chemical reactions involved in diabetes.
