I think technology definitely plays a part because everything back then wasn't filtered there was no hd visual either there were more limitations plus it being a new IP they had to work with what they had and it pushed them to be creative

For anyone who wants to know, the instruments used here are (from what I can hear): -Electro-Acoustic Guitar -Tiple (a 12-string acoustic guitar) -Tuba -Synthethizer -Bamboo Flute -Maracas -Quena -Oboe There's another instrument mixed in there for a couple of seconds, but it sounds so shortly I can't identify it.

1996....got it when it was new and all the rage. Had a Compaq Presario with Windows 95 and monitor-mounted stereo speakers....friends came over and were hypnotized by the soundtrack and gameplay. Best days of my life, the only peeps in the PJ's with a PC setup for gaming at that time, which was well before the dedicated graphics card days.

Somehow, this version of the Tristram tune is even better than the Diablo 2 variation, though Diablo II (with LoD) was definitely the best game of the series. It's hard to put my finger on it, but I think it's because the instruments sound slightly softer, they give a bigger sense of dispair. Like, sitting at a campfire in the freezing cold, seeing the flames on the very last log of wood you had slowly die out. Something good lipping away, leaving you with nothing. In the Diablo II variation, the instruments sound slightly more edged and harsher. The sense of loosing something isn't there anymore, it's more a sense of already having nothing and just moving forward, not knowing if things will ever improve.
