It is too bad that Blizzard no longer holds the values they had from 2003-2008(Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft) When Bliz North left it seems the company now only cares about its stock holders and lost all that made them popular. Can someone help me understand the appeal of PoE? I’ve tried, it just feels too much like someone’s passion project than a real game Edit: a lot of you need to calm the fuck down. I didn’t say anything bad about PoE it’s a genuine question, I’m trying to understand the appeal because the learning curve is huge for a new player and I want to get into it but feeling overwhelmed at the start. @@zen-kami1288 its the version d4 was meant to be. it gives players freedom to build characters like they want. going for a minium character, sure thing bud, you will get all the passive and tools to actually empower your character with said abilities. abilities are transferable via gem, there is no real coin system but rather a trade system. items actually give meaningfull stats like +intelligence = + magical damage and ratios and its just that simple. ofc late game grinders will be like "build this and that, 1 shot this and repeat till x item drops" but there is actually A LOT of content before you get there so there is no "spike drop" when it comes to story and exploring. there is also a lot of things to do, not just dungeons. you can make maps, you can grind small items to sell, you can sell abilities, etc. there is not just 1 gameplay is what i am saying, you have options on that game, vs d4, all you do is dungeons which all are the same on a mechanical level and thats the end game, thats it. there is no real reason as to why even get to end game. example were end game actually feels more "enjoyable" is division, were once you finish the main quest you are left to actually finish all the side quest and it will give you more loot and you can rerun main quest with harder diff but if you dont want to run main quest there was added some side events that could also be rerun BUT it was tied to the world. it actually felt acomplishing to do the side quest since it also expanded the world and made it feel more alive, more invested in the game. in D4 it just there. there is no real reason to even be on that part of sanctuary, and to be fair, main quest could be taken out and it wont really affect the game or the world... if anything will add more i think, cuz then the world would be build only on side quests

​@@zen-kami1288probably is that you don't repeat stuff that often. Unless you're a meta slave. Let me know how many builds you can do for 2 diablo class vs 1 poe class. NMD + Helltide + Tree of whispers vs. PoE Atlas. Master missions alone are more interesting than D4 endgame. And please, don't compare a decade old progress of PoE. Their leagues starts popping off like 2015 or 2016. D4 have 6-7 years of development time with a lot of ARPG for reference including their own.

Ive been an artist on a few large live service games and i can confirm that these predatory tactics in the UI are completely intentional, programmers always have to take the backfoot to game designers and publishers. There are guidlines even on how to make it more and more predatory, hidden and malicious and what tricks can be utilized to get payments before players even know what theyve done.

Well. Literally, the issue for not expanding stash is database processing overload. You either expand your capabilities significantly and nullify any profit you could make (which kills the live service game concept), overload servers and deliver massive lag or charge extra for that to net the costs. Unless they find out some TRULY GODLY database compression and processing optimization, the solutions are kind of limited to that. And Microsoft could help it out by providing some free extra azure capabilities, but that is something for the future.

At this point if there's any truth to what they're saying, would be better to take a while to rewrite the code that makes everyone load everyone else's stash. Gta 5 cost 250 million to make, so there is no way that refactoring that code would cost them their profit. If they decide to sell stash tabs with that excuse, its one more proof of how scummy they are. Essaying

​@@toranksu2751 Costs scale faster than profits. And games designed for online gameplay has similar implementation, it is not a matter of refactoring costs, this is a whole industry pattern design. That is why some games charge extra for stash tabs: it is QoL for players, additional revenue when paired with other things (such as battle pass) and offset this permanent new cost. Technically speaking, Act Man and most content creators are absolut jokes when they talk about anything technical, props to Quin for being cautious here. And if you disagree with all that, invest in becoming a wizard at developing database engines and optimitzation for online games, wit MMO/trading mechanics. If you solve that problem so effortless and in such cheap way, you could expect to earn at least 500k per year by just existing.

I seem to remember him spending 20k or so chasing gem upgrades in that game and he thinks that the suits at Blizzard wouldn't direct their employees to implement these practices they have extensively researched and verified that increase revenue? Blizzard and other AAA developers literally staff psychologists whose area of expertise is addiction and addictive behavior as consultants with the sole purpose of optimizing player to microtransaction interfaces. Quin, dark patterns dont happen by a guy in a suit going to a programmer. Requirements have to be approved by senior management, then functional designs are made from those requirements and approved by middle management (perhaps Blizzard does it slightly differently, but the high level process is boilerplate). No one goes to a programmer and says "Do this..", it comes down from multiple approvals and design reviews and the coders just do what they're told and don't question it.

There's a reality, and then you have someone who can't read between the lines. Like Quin here. There is no "agenda", a bunch of us are just really sick and tired of being treated like we don't know that games used to be polished BEFORE release and that the majority of bugs, if any, weren't game crashing, save corrupting nightmares. Skins and "endgame" were unlocked upon completion of the base experience. It didn't happen overnight. They figured out that you can strip out stuff like that from a FINISHED GAME and sell it back to you as a premium AFTER buying the game itself. It's not about enjoyment anymore, it's about "engagement", and the fact that D4 battle pass releases coincide with quarterly earnings reports is enough proof BY ITSELF. Why do you think the game released with a level 100 cap? They were hoping that a half-baked, already released Season 1 and the grind would distract people from the fact that they have nothing substantial planned for their precious "live service". Season 2 looks just like a reskin of the first, but instead of Malignant Hearts you have "Vampire Powers (whoopty doo). Even Anthem had a "roadmap" and look where that got it. We're not stupid mate. You shouldn't believe everything a developer says. Remember that Avengers "live service" where this mouthpiece said with a straight face that there would be no pay-to-win microtransactions? They put exp boosters in the shop after release. Isn't it funny how there are so many dead live services? Those "Campfire Chats" are nothing more than platitudes, just a lot of saying things that sound right but directly contradict everything that they have been doing.

Being a larger studio actually works against Blizzard for not including a prompt in the pass. They have 8000+ employees and you don't think the entire group of devs that's working on these sprints for each specific feature, PLUS the play testers, didn't bring up that fact? Even once? No, it was probably mentioned and "escalated", then the choice was made to, "correct it when players see it". The nail in the coffin is that they can't refund it. I could see if they said, "We cannot refund the pass if any rewards were claimed.", but no.

The UI to click season pass, its definitely deliberate, the programmer gets brownie points for doing it. Its 2023, every crucial click such as this requires an additional prompt now, impossible to miss it, you have to wait 5s to leave a dungeon.... (oh wait, 3s now, took a campfire to address this - cute). People who is defending the game saying people are still playing it so its good. Of course people are playing it, FFS, it costs $70-$100 bucks. If not for BD3, I would be playing D4 just to feel good about my purchase especially its only been 2 months! However, I'm fortunate enough to be able to have multiple games. Undeniably, D4 is bad coming from a veteran company, simple as that. Yes, they can still fix the game in S2 or 20, you can say its a great game when they finally fix it but truth still stand, they F up till now.

I find it funny, every comment, vid, trying to defend D4 but they fail to realize... Whatever that has been fixed, campfire, etc, these happened after public melt down/complains. And the shiny white Knights defend the game on the basis of devs patching according to 'people whinning'. Inventory, mount, class imbalance, mob density, dungeon departures 3s to 5s then to 3s. Meanwhile white Knights defend with only 'so many whinners !', 0 contributions to suggestions.

Loot boxes are not the same as drop rates. Loot boxes take you to a separate screen, because they have to be "special", and have flashy particle/sound effects to make you feel like you just hit a jackpot on a slot machine. On top of that, they are typically tied to some kind of premium currency that you have to pay REAL MONEY for. Trash loot in game can be sold for gold or broken down into crafting materials, but if you get a duplicate skin in a loot box (for example), it's just gone. Poof. Like the currency you spend hours grinding for, or the real money that you had to earn at a job. Think about shit before you try to compare two completely different mechanics. Oh, and they are only "buzz words" because SO MANY FUCKING PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY REALIZED IT'S DOGSHIT". There's a word you like to use a lot.
