Thanks for this video, it confirmed exactly what I was thinking. I used to play with FTDA -8 and a peak brightness higher than my display can output, now I am getting a similar result with no FTDA and the peak brightness matching my display. Thanks again, you are the best!

In my opinion it still looks extremly washed out in HDR compared to SDR. Black level floor might be good according to your analysis. But this doesnt help much if everything above(midtones) are raised like crazy.

Is it possible that in most games Elevated Black Floor is caused by the devs being on Limited on there computers when making HDR support?

Yes!! You have to change the Dynamic Range manually on PC so its actually Limited on AMD and Nvidia drivers by default.

Thanks for the video and your dedicated coverage of HDR in games like Diablo 4. So i have a Hisense U8K connected to Xbox SX with Dolby Vision turned on. In this scenario, what should be the "white point" setting? The display max which is around 1500 nits? Or max it out to 4000 nits and have Dolby Vision tone map the specular highlights down to whatever the U8K can handle?

Good question. Usually there shouldn't be any tone mapping when using DV but I don't know your TV. Just test your setting on a specular highlights. Start increasing the peak brightness until the highlights doesn't get brighter or it starts clipping

@@GamingTech-KZbin oh I read in multiple places that Dolby Vision preconfigured in a TV has an ideal tone map best suited for that display.. which is why one cannot disable/enable tone mapping while DV is on..

Thanks for the video as always. I still think I'll stick to HDR Effect SDR mode on my CX for this game. Looks perfect and very sharp. I also use it for Fortnite and don't feel any input lag or anything. Really neat mode on this TV that I'm glad someone mentioned in a video long ago.

You should try dylanraga's srgb to gamma 2.2 icm display profile, he specifically cites diablo 4 as a prime culprit with how gamma curves can be incorrectly applied. This seems to bring the colors closer to natural sdr likeness but still keeping hdr brightness. Just google "win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm" and download the unspecified profile then set your max nits either in the Custom Resolution Utility or windows 11 calibration tool. On a separate note the black level still looked raised to me on the PC version so I've been using Lilium's hdr black floor fix in Reshade but I'll have to check again bow it's now running natively, thanks for the vid.

@@jasoncarlton2324 You have to turn off HDR in the console so that the game loads up in SDR Mode. Then you go into the TV settings and click game mode and it should be at the bottom titled "HDR Effect Mode" you can't be in PC Mode using the 4:4:4 Chroma as the mode doesn't show up in PC Mode Edit. Found this HDR Effect Mode thru Reddit. I use it for games that have terrible HDR implementation. I even use it for single player games that don't support HDR as it has higher brightness potential over regular game mode brightness and the colors really pop with the options it offers. I guess ppl don't use it because they either don't know about it or maybe because its not technically accurate representation but to me the picture is so good on most everything I use it for. I use it in Fortnite and I think it looks amazing. I even changed the setting for color to high and it really makes it pop. Even though HDR is better in Diablo now I still prefer this HDR effect mode over it as the image and characters just look cleaner.

Does the LG still switch into a much darker saving mode over time? I felt when diablo got released that my g2 somehow got much darker while playing it.

Have you gone into the service menu and disabled the auto dimming functions (TPC & GSR)? That might help

@@rasa4512 No I haven‘t and frankly I don‘t wanna. It‘s the only Game with this issue and if I change something I might void my warranty. Not worth for D4. But thanks for the idea.

@@private_Angus no worries, FYI tho apparently all that warranty stuff is overblown and they don't even check the service menus thoroughly if something does goes wrong (no reported cases of voiding warranty that I know of), but they might be a bit tougher now with the g2 gen going forward with that extended warranty now I guess so fair enough. But honestly if you take reasonable steps it's not gonna cause burn in or anything honestly speaking you'll be fine

So do you now recommend to turn HDR on for the samsung s95c? Originally you recommended to disable hdr on samsung TV's. If i should turn on, anything special I need to do for this game?

I’m playing with HGIG on my LG C1 65 and theses settings are not the droids I’m looking for unfortunately…still looking washed out even with black level set at lowest level…I think 250 is just too high for paper white on the C1. Any other suggestions?
