My dad was mad when in D&D he had this evil wizard guy fight us. He had it all thought out and thought it was going to wreck us. But when I hit him in combat my dad didn't know about interrupting spells. So we looked up the concentration rolls, and I was right. Proceeded to wreck the wizard's shit because I kept interrupting him. I sent him this video after.

Basically the acting and the "feel" of gameplay in D3 I have experienced within the first hour of playing was the reason why I needed 5 months to regain mental strength in order to pick D3 up again - and to sit through it. I can feel the disappointment in us all.

Diablo 1 was the best. Dark Horror-based environments that built up atmosphere and tension with a soundtrack that surpasses most (if not all) games to date, and beats the crap out of movie soundtracks. I just wish they stuck with the same horror theme in diablo 2. It was more arcade-ish, as diablo 3 will be. D2 was still good, but D1 had things that made it an absolute masterpiece. Diablo is the only Top-down RPG game that scared me the first time i played it. No other rpg ever did that to me.

@skyfish6 That's because he isn't teleporting he is turning invisible then moving very fast, so like any monster you chase into a corner he is also stuck there.

One of the first times I faced this guy was with my rogue Kerry. He dropped the freakin' royal circlet for me, one of the best items in the game IMHO. That made Kerry the most badass level 15 Rogue on the planet.

Urk. I got horrible luck in my version of Zhar's room... no door. I ended up chasing him across the damn floor, all the way around all the halls, and that pulled waves upon waves of monsters and as a warrior, that was no fun. I did live, though, and I beat the scholarly-deranged shit out of that guy. The warrior's victory line made it all worth it.

If you use Firewall, you can kill him alot faster, just to give you the heads up. I love the warrior's quote at the end!

@skyfish6 It was not exactly a glitch, (or perhaps it was), but that was the recommended strategy you could find in the official Diablo strategy guide. Trying to "trap" the teleporting mage creature type in a corner in a 45´ angle caused them to get "stucked" and then they were rubble after a few whacks.

Instead of slashing him more than once, hit him once then wait for him to re-appear. He leaves a streak of light when teleporting which makes him easy to follow.

I would always play as the warrior when I was a kid, so it's the total opposite for me. I find using the mage a lot more difficult (yet more fun) and overall more challenging, especially when dealing with resistances in the caves and hell.

All you have to do on this fight is get him cornered and he can't even teleport away from you if you stay in front of him. Damn, you really gotta love that dialogue though. You can easily see the step down in quality from hearing Lloigor the Crazed's shitty dialogue and acting from D3.

I got lucky as my warrior. I don't know if it's just a glich, but I backed zhar up into a corner wall, and he kept teleporting right in front of me so I could just keep hacking at him.

Can you actually save before you talk to him and if you don't get the book you want you can reload and keep doing it? I never actually thought about this when I played Diablo so long ago.

However, every year I reinstall Diablo and play it to destruction in a multiplayer (which I play singleplayer) game, leveling a mage to lvl 47-50 (whichever I have the patience for) with (near)perfect equipment. It's just so much fun. Like a ritual of sorts. Then I delete it again and do it again the year after :D:D:D Such a shame you can't level chain lightning too much due to a wellknown bug I won't elaborate on, but you probably know anyway ;)

@DisembowelMe LCS (Lying Character Screen) might be a factor. In D1 and D2, stats and values that UI provided weren´t always accurate.

Man, I've been mercilessly beating on him and evading his shots for I don't know how long. Already made one trip to the surface to re-stock on health potions and am running out of those as well. I do 17-25 damage apparently, which might not be much for a level 16 warrior, dno. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to beat on him some more?
