Thanks man! You make it look easy and it really is. In my case actually easier as the harmonic balancer just popped off/on with my bare hands. Too bad I already bought an expensive puller for this job but maybe I’ll get use of it some other time. What really was stuck was the seal it self. Broke me a pair of pliers and seal hooks. That thing deteriorated completely. 19 years and 370k kms sure made its mark.

I don't know if anyone has asked you about this yet. In reference to the 3m silicone gease. Like anybody else who has worked on vehicles, I have used silicone for gaskets, etc. And have used dielectric grease in electrical applications. What I don't know is if you used that particular product because it is both silicone and dielectric, or because you already had it on hand. I can only find it in the 8 oz and it cost between 25 and 35 dollars depending on where you buy it. I have permatex 100% silicone products already and I have dielectric grease. I don't want to buy that product for a single use unless it's necessary. Also, I am guessing that, short of buying a new Harmonic Balancer, it is a temporary fix. Have you done this before? and have you had any feedback on how long it lasts, ie. You did this job 4 years ago, has the person who owns the car had any leak problems? Thanks

What causes this crank seal to give out? On P80 Volvos, you only ever develop a seal leak if you don't service the PCV and create a lot of back pressure? Did this vehicle have a bad PCV system? Poor oil change intervals? Or just one of those things that occurs with these cars? Many thanks, Angel!

You actually make a great point. In the video this car had oil all over the place. Very indicative of blocked pcv. Really should check the pcv or else it will keep leaking from other places maybe even the new seal too.

So I have a main seal leak and need to remove the transmission to repair. Is this as difficult as it sounds? Do you have a vid for it? Also are you aware of issues with stripped threads or something like that replacing head gaskets on 2002-2006 camrys?
@FixItAngel7 жыл бұрын
yes rear main seal is difficult. you will need to drop the subframe to remove the trans to get to the seal. So sorry no video. also i don't know anything about stripped threads on those years.
@pootychange007 жыл бұрын

very cool! thanks for sharing. Will this also work for 2000 Toyota Sienna? it seems to be same type setup.. Also any torque specs for the bolt on harmonic balancer?
@FixItAngel8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, not same setup, Sienna is a V6. Just remove the belts. Torque spec is 158 foot pounds. but you will need a chain wrench to hold the balancer to torque it. Thanks for asking.
@VENUEATHENS8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for great feedback.. I'm working on the inner cv joint right now, it has the same issue as your previous sienna video. The inner boot has torn. Tried to get the front joint off with puller, but it won't budge. I wanted to remove the front joint to slide the inner boot over the shaft and on to the inner joint/flange then repack with grease. I am doing this with the rest of axle still in van. But it seems like the axle must come out completely if i am to make any progress. The inner/outter joints seem really hard to service. Perhaps Toyota intended for a new axle to be replaced when boot rip? My Audi A4 was so easy to service in this regard.
@FixItAngel8 жыл бұрын
Welcome, you better off replacing the whole axle. From my experience working at the dealer and doing many cv boots, it's cheaper to buy new with a lifetime warranty from your local parts store. And you get less messy with all that grease. And time not wasted. Have a nice day.
@VENUEATHENS8 жыл бұрын
Fix It Angel yes I have already purchased a boot kit unfortunately for the inner joint! Lol do you know if there is a way to separate that inner joint from its flange so only the shaft holding the inner and outer joint is out, and the rest of the shaft and inner flange that holds inner joint from the carrier bearing to the trans can stay in..? Man if I can some how make this work it will be great help.. It's my dads van, and we're on bit of tight budget right now for whole new axle.. :l
@FixItAngel8 жыл бұрын
Sorry there is know way to separate it. I have never done it. You will have to remove the whole axle to replace the boot.
