@@KevinNadeau I have a 2005 GMC Envoy Denali 5.3 liter. it'll drive for about 30 to 40 minutes it will shut off it takes about an hour hour-and-a-half you're able to recrank it and it'll drive for another 30 to 45 minutes and repeat the same thing over and over. We have changed the fuel pump, crankcase position sensor, ignition module, multiple relays the fuse panel box under the hood had to computer rebuilt Andre program to the vehicle several things have been checked no issues whatsoever headed into the GM dealer two different times they can't find the problem to other mechanics have been unable to find the problem and I'm at wit's end. Any idea what it may be?

@@fla-tacomann5355 I'm not very familiar with the 5.3L motors, but my first thought is something electrical. Have you had the alternator tested? Is your battery good?

Exact thing happened to my 06 Trailblazer...was a clogged oil pickup tube that would temporarily unclog when engine was shut off. Ended up blowing the engine because I thought it was a faulty gauge and drove it a couple miles. It literally started knocking 4 blocks from my mechanic's shop.

same problem on 2002, oil pressure switched didn't resolve, oil change full syn and oil filter didnt, bought a new battery now i read that could case issure. im thining sludge build p or oil pump.. hope not. But looks like ur pressres low to begin with? then when idling it increase just a little look at the tiny like to the left of needle. GL Godbless

I'm no expert with AC systems. Are you sure the compressor is bad? Might be time for a new one?

Hi Kevin.. when I removed the old module under the dashboard I noticed that a few of the plugs had some green corrosion in the plug so I cleaned it out the best I could and I'm thinking that maybe the brake lights blew out and the running lights just continue to come on when I turn on the lights and do you think that the fuses for the left and right brake lights might have been blown... I just bought the GMC ENVOY SLT a few weeks ago and I'm just trying to figure out the problem so I can get a safety certificate and put the SUV on the road and enjoy it.. during the summer... Having the same problems with a '04. I will be doing the same test you are, suspecting to have the same problems or a weak pump. There is a lot of confusion about the oil pressure gauge. Researching this, it appears that the gauge is nothing more than a glorified idiot light to make it look "cool". The sensor it a on/off switch. Pressure opens the switch (off). Lack of pressure closes it (on). If it is off, the gauge reads 40psi. You can unplug the sensor and the gauge will still read 40 psi. short the plug wires, it will go to zero. After fixing this engine, a mechanical pressure gauge will be install for the driver. Good video Kevin.

Hope you're able to solve your low oil pressure issue. You are correct, the oil pressure gauge on the 4.2L motor is basically an "idiot light".

The adapter link took me to an m14 x 1.5 adapter. I will order the m16 from a different seller and hope it's correct.

I ended up having to take the oil pan off and clean the pickup tube on my Envoy. Man, that was a big project.

@@KevinNadeau yeah.. I figured that was coming… I haven’t change my oil pressure switch. that I will get done.. And possibly have somebody else do the work to the clean out or both jobs.. Im to old for that stuff anymore..😎

Maybe, but I found it to be very easy to replace it from the bottom.

I actually did one today in my 05 envoy and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. Once the oil filter is off you actually have enough room for the socket and ratchet. Highly recommend getting the speciality socket for a few dollars. Best of luck to everyone !!M

@@stephenpurcell9268 thank you for sharing. i also have an 05 envoy and bought the oil sensor socket it was cheaper than the actual sensor lol can you give me the steps to replace it? so just get the oil filter out first? how do i do that? lol

Getting the filter out gives you more room to get at the sensor. A 74-76 mm oil filter cup will help if the oil change place over tightened the filter. Once you remove the filter the sensor sits sideways just above the filter mount. Remove the wiring from the sensor and the socket will fit over the sensor and you will have room for a ratchet as well. Hope this helps you as well !!! When replacing the filter just tighten it up hand tight. Always easier to remove for future oil changes !!!

Have you had to take the oil pan off yet? Just wondering because I'm going to be changing a timing chain and some other things and I can not find an oil pan gasket anywhere! Apparently these engines don't have an oil pan gasket? The local auto parts store, showed a picture of 12 tubes of RTV and same with an online website. I find it really odd that they wouldn't have a rubber gasket

Yes, I ended up taking off the oil pan to get to the pickup tube. The pan does have an RTV gasket, not rubber. Check out my other videos for the oil pan removal and install.

@@KevinNadeau so I'm all finished with my engine project and it runs great but there's a vacuum line coming from the left firewall and I cannot find where it goes. It's causing my idle to go up and down between 400-800 rpms

Don't use the FRAM filter, and you'll be fine. I had a problem with low oil pressure. I changed everything I could. Eventually the problem was solved only when I replaced the FRAM filter with one from ACDelco.

Sam Robertson The gauge is what I had in the shop. The reading on the dash is not true pressure with the 4.2L motors.

Not necessarily. My problem was a clogged pickup tube.

In my case, i probably shouldn't have, based on what i found. But if the low pressure light comes on because of a bad pressure switch, you'd probably be ok to keep driving. But drive at your own risk.

Don't get rid of it. Try a new pressure switch first.

Down to the 20 min running time + idle throwing the low oil pressure & engine shut off warnings - but when I accelerate it "fixes it".. until I idle again..? I'm en route to gas station for kerosene, now. Guess I could bust a u turn and head to O'Reilly for a switch, instead.

okay, you need to stop driving the car, this is what wrong with it you need to replace the main bearing, and while you got the oil pan off install new rod bearings and oil pump, also check the timing chain hydraulic adjuster.
