These Envoys are notorious for the pickup tube in the oil pan getting gunked up. It's a pain, but drop the pain and clean the pickup tube, and POOF! Oil pressure not only returns but is better!

Thanks Kevin for all your efforts. I admire those willing to film/give verbal detail when performing repairs, trying to solve issues - very kind & unselfish. My 2005 Envoy has 100k & has begun the fluctuating oil press gauge issue, low oil press display notice followed by stop engine display notice. Will try the oil press switch replace as a 1st effort to cure. Will advise outcome. 11/16/19

I did not want to take the engine apart or remove the rack n pinion just to get the oil pan to drop on my 2004 Envoy so I could clean the pickup tube. In this Video or the next one Kevin replaces the engine oil with kerosene and this does not work for him maybe he did not leave it in their long enough. I removed the oil and filter in my envoy. Then put a new filter on and replaced the engine oil with 2 Gal of diesel fuel. I let that sit in the engine for 3 days starting the engine once or twice a day for no more than 10 seconds. The now Black diesel was drained and filter removed next added new filter and New Oil and Oil pressure is better than ever.

Low oil pressure at idle, We change the oil pressure gauge sensor no change in pressure, replace oil pump no Change. Now next I well try higher viscosity oil like 20w50 Castrol oil after i flush the engine with Kerosene or diesel that old school. (my first job as a Mechanic was in 1955 on a 1931 Ford,( those were the good old days)

Sounds like pick up tube, just had the same problem, 1/14/2020, changed the pressure switch, witch did not fix it, thought it might be the pump, no, it was the pick up tube. I liked the videos

I have followed on what you have been doing. I am having issues as well with my envoy. I have replaced many parts but also the crank shaft sensor would be an issue. I know that the compression by my water hose stays hard. I replaced water pump, fan clutch got the check engine light went off. Then it got worse replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, throttle body and replace several sensors and it just keeps getting worse. I believe that there's a compression somewhere in the engine that is causing it I'm going to replace the oil pressure sensor and I'm going to get the crankshaft sensor as well because it can cause it to do that as well. but I believe there's some kind of defect on these vehicle because they have great engines and they drive well has great power on the engine but there's so many little sensors everywhere that you know it's just hard to figure out in detail because the engine runs well the Transmissions doing well but there's a lot more to it.

I use Rislone Engine Treatment on regular basis to clean sludge... works great.. this could oil pump issue.

My 2002 trailblazer has around 313k miles on it and I have a very odd symptoms that matches with this video you made. I’m getting a P1345 code. It correlates to a faulty cam phasers that operates based on the change in oil pressure. Well…If I warm up the engine….turn the engine off and restart it, the code goes away. Looks like the increase in oil pressure fixes it until the next cold start. Also….my cruise control will not work unless I turn off the engine and restart it after its warm. That symptom only happens when the code is displayed. I’ll try cleaning the pickup tube! Thanks!

That is typical Envoy. If you check engine light is on it will not let you use the cruise control. Mine has done the same in the past.

@@TheJamestat2 The engine fault code would stay tho. So I would have the code but once the engine was stopped then restarted, cruise would work. Code remained. I have since replaced the cam phaser and the code went away and cruise now works.

Kevin typically problems at over 200k is replace oil pickup seal with high volume oil pressure not a big job if it's a 4x2 $100 buck parts & your garage labor after use 10/30 high mileage being you have were at 200k

Hey what's up when I was a kid I bought a 65 Mustang to 83 motor and hello oil pressure what I found was when the motor heated the oil pressure got a low almost 0 I pulled off the valve covers and the sludge was so thick that auto oil was collecting up in the valve covers I clean out the ports in oil pressure went up to normal Make a long story short I just bought a 2004 GMC envoy runs great no tapping excellent trop have the same problem with the oil pressure I find When I 1st get in the truck The truck runs fine on cold days at around 70゚ to 80゚ days oil pressure's fine but soon as I hit 9095゚ dropped to 0 Or 5 pounds of pressure I rubbed the motor And sometimes it goes up to 40 Pounds The cooling fan comes on and it stays at 40 so I'm thinking that it can be a combination of a thermostat issue along with club ports note with the Mustang I did engine flush 1st it did not clean the gum out of the ports I had to do that manually let me know what you think

Kevin- great video, very well done and well researched. I have a 2002 GMC Envoy SLT , with the 4.2 L in line 6cyl engine, and also got the same issue with the fluctuating Oil Press guage. I followed your instructions, and replaced the Oil Pressure solenoid switch per your video. My engine only has 164K on it currently. I never considered the Kerosene flush, but it sure did not seem to hurt ( and may have even helped ) your Oil Pressure situation. Tell us what happened when you replaced the Cam Position sensor when you can

Thanks for the kind words. I like that you say "only" 164k! I currently have about 255K, and I'm sure it'll go further. The kerosene flush didn't seem to help with my issue. I eventually decided to tear into the oil pick up tube and found that it was about 90% clogged. After clearing it out, oil pressure is back to normal. I have driven about a week since cleaning the pickup tube and no problems yet. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid operates on oil pressure, and I believe my P0014 (CPAS) check engine code was a direct result of low oil pressure.

It's doing what an engine with that amount of miles and age will do.If your not hearing top of engine noise then it's running..in time it'll eventually give out,your lucky you got that much out of a six cylinder.

Not quite...my engine had a clogged pickup tube. I cleaned it out and now my oil pressure is where it should be. I am now just over 300k miles 👍

My 2005 lost all pressure but the engine was quite. The next day pressure was back / Oil pressure switch screen was clogged.

Last time I bother you, (tonight.) Are you using 5w30 or 10w30? I've read some forums online where people said 10w30 resolved the warning message issue for their high mileage Envoys... Thoughts..?

I use 10w30 because of my mileage. That won't solve low oil pressure though. You either have a bad pressure switch (most likely) or truly low oil pressure.

@@KevinNadeau I was gonna try thicker oil but I know I legit lost pressure cuz it started happening to me within the 20-30 ml range like u but i kept going figuring if it starts tapping I'll pull right over. It tapped..but tapped right out into clunk clunk thud thud. Pulled over asap..turned off..call tow truck. I thought I threw a pushrod or smashed lifter/rocker but did start it again to pull it up driveway and it tapped a few till oil got there. Thank all that's holy I didnt mess top end up. So after ur vids and others I know its gonna be either the pick up or pump. Trying to bank on pick up n flush cuz I've seen how stupid hard they made taking pan down. At that rate I'd be tempted just to change pump n sump. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks for vids btw! Much help.

@@weldy7018 Sorry to hear your truck gave you a scare. I would get a bore scope, drain the oil, and try and look at the pickup tube through the oil pan drain plug. Have you hooked up a mechanical gauge to confirm the oil pressure?

@@KevinNadeau thanks for getting back so fast. No I'm in beginning stages but I'm pretty sure the stuck lifter confirmed no/too low pressure. I'm trying to hone in on it as cheaply as possible as I only paid 1500 for it which was a steal at the moment so I'm teetering between doing it myself..just paying somebody for the labor to clean it...douching it with diesel or w/e or ditching it. I gotta see where to get a bore scope. Not a bad investment to have tho.

Yes I did, it was Kerosene actually. But it didn't seem to do anything for my issue, which ended up being a clogged pickup tube.

I think it's a bad idea. Kerosene might be good at thinning your oil, but you don't know if it works to dissolve "build up." Also, you should have drained a couple quarts of oil out of the pan first, the added some kerosene to some new oil, mixed it up, and the added it to the engine. You pour straight kero into the engine, and the pick up tube will suck it up and you will be pumping straight kero around the engine. I would never do that to mine. Too risky. All risk no reward.

Furthermore, this is a video log of the process followed by a person trying to diagnose and fix his own problem. Man I watched all three and heard blah blah blah blah...DID you fix it???? FYI you will never get an accurate reading putting that external gauge where you did, It needs to go where the sending unit it. I have 250K ON my 2005 Envy. And it just stated this behavior that you have. yes ENVY because now all the electronic are getting funky. Your motor is way cleaner than mine is.....But what was the fix. I doubt that kerosene flush is good for the internal seals. But WTF do I know.

Skip Rope My gauge was connected to the oil filter housing, right in front of the pressure switch. The problem was ultimately a clogged pickup tube. I pulled the oil pan and found the pickup tube was about 90% clogged with sludge. Luckily no metal shavings. I have another series of videos showing that. Good luck with your Envoy! Thanks.

A good flushes will not work all the time, but it works for me most of the time. I put the kerosene in an drive around for about 10 min. ( Try it U may like it )
