Changing the thermostat in an AMC 258 - 4.2 L - JEEP Wrangler YJ : Ep 17

How to Change the thermostat on a Wrangler YJ 4.2 litre engine, 258 cu inch, without removing the belts. Simple instructions for the beginner, making it possible to do it under 3 hours. DIY recommendations and warnings on what can go wrong, followed by your own gasket maker instructions. Permatex Ultra Black sealant was used to compensate for scratches in the block and the thermostat housing.

I don't know if the AMC 258 is supposed to have a thermostat with a "burp hole". None of the replacements I've used have had it, I almost drilled one today when I put one in but decided against it because I couldn't find my drill. I came to your video to check the orientation of the thermostat because I forgot to pay attention when I removed the old one. Thanks for the video, cool to see a European into a Jeep.

what did you make this gasket out of? you said you made it out of paper, but is it literally just like computer paper? and thanks for a great tutorial. I'm trying to change the thermostat on a 1975 AMC Pacer. lol!

1.5 mm thick paper like a thinner version of a board paper, they sell them as special gasket papers

Over torqued bolts thread stretched will never be safe/accurate back to recommended original torque. Sadly see it all the time. Hope this is still on the road..
