Great video! I grew up in Iowa. There was a very acute diagonal crossing on the old Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad branch line that used to go to Audubon, Iowa back in the 1970s. This was the crossing northeast of Atlantic, Iowa. I believe that it was the divided US 71 & 6 (concurrent highways) railroad crossing just south of I-80. The tracks crossed the road at a very steep angle of just 5 degrees from southwest to northeast. At that time, the crossing signals were a boulevard style with additional flashing lights carried over the divided highway on cantilevers. There were no gates, and I never gave the crossing much thought until I was stopped by a train entering the crossing from the southwest (Atlantic). I stopped at the line painted on the highway next to the southbound railroad crossing signals. I noticed the northbound traffic was stopping about 100 north of me. I looked and saw the northbound crossing signal from the front. The railroad track crossed and such an acute angle that the southbound signal was farther south than the northbound signal across the highway from me! I had never seen a train coming at me like that and it was quite uncomfortable. As I looked east the train appeared that it was running down the highway divider. Sadly, the branch line was abandoned a few years ago and it is now a bike trail. I never thought to get a picture as I always thought I can take one later and it was 35 years before cell phones. You can see the crossing of the bike trail on Google Earth, although the bike trail goes to an intersection that can cross the road. You can barely see the disturbed ground in the highway divider. A unique crossing lost forever.

Well that’s a strange twist, having the gate lights flash at the same time.

What are the traffic lights for on 4:18?
@MobileRailSpotterRxR3 жыл бұрын
The Intersection with Folsom Blvd ahead. It stops the rest of the traffic before they cross the tracks.

Love all the crossings in this video, also does the Sony Cybershot RX10 IV shoot in 60 FPS? Because I am thinking on getting it.
@MobileRailSpotterRxR3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes it shoots in 60fps but at 1080p.

Wait! It says stop here when flashing. You are not allowed to cross when the lights are flashing, wait until the flashing lights are turned off.

21:30-when the red lights flash, they better not try and cross those tracks when that trian comes, or they'll seriously get killed or hurt. it's better to stay behind the tracks until the train fully crosses the tracks. right?

My fellow Californians. Always in a rush to go nowhere. Watching people who can't wait five seconds at the Industrial Blvd crossing foolishly dash across the tracks.
