Thanks a great explanation. I'm an older learner - should have started 50 years ago! But spent my working life as a BBC journalist and struggled as an amateur classic car restorer without welding! Most other skills ok but always frightened of welding. Now the wonders of the Internet connect me to you and thanks for your generosity. Gregor in Edinburgh Scotland.

Gregor Robertson Well, it truly is never too late to begin. Welcome to the wonderful world of welding! Hopefully, you too will catch the fever and come to enjoy it, live it, and be eternally fascinated by it like the rest of us poor infected souls!

Sorry, Love your work man, these vid hints are just what are needed for curious in-experienced minds. There aren't many people that have the patience to do all the work it must take to present them. Praise on you.

Hi Dan, I got my MIG welder at a yard sale for $40.00. Watch your video and man it worked so nice. Love your video. Never used one before and I made a nice bead set at the #7. Thanks again. Ken from Indiana

I'm a noob to MIG and I can't get any classes locally that I can get to. This is a wonderfully organized and planned lesson that is clear in presentation. When I go home today, I'm going to try it out. Thanks.

I was always told if you use gas, you PUSH if you use fluxcore you DRAG, also if you drag you always get a taller weld. All in all very well explained how to find out what your machine likes.
@WeldFever9 жыл бұрын
scott carr There is a saying in welding that states, "If it produces slag, you must drag" and that is true for flux cored. MIG, on the other hand, you can push or pull and your choice is usually based on penetration, with pulling producing more penetration. Thanks for the compliment and comment.

I just converted my Lincoln Weldpak 100HD from flux core to gas mig and was having a hard time with it. After watching your vids I see that my speed and voltage was too low compared to my settings for the flux core. This is much help, so thanks a bunch!

I appreciate you taking the time to explain what you're doing. Question for you; what is the bubble that appears on your last weld (#7) that appears at 7:00? At 8:00 it looks like it pops or buckles. Is there a technical term for it?
@WeldFever8 жыл бұрын
I haven't looked at it, but it is probably some form of porosity, which results from contamination on the piece, or a lack of shielding gas (which introduces another form of contamination, air).

Great video, will subscribe to you channel after watching several of them. As for the chart it get you close and is a good starting point, but not all wires welds the same, I had a project were I run out of wire and had to replace a roll and thought my welder had malfunction. It wouldn't weld worth a crap, then started playing with the wire speeds and found this roll likes more wire speed than the other roll. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching!!

I never see any video on someone making a video on how to weld very very thin metal like what I weld at the shop I ment at the bodyshop the junk new cars today where the metal is like welding a coke can thin maybe u should make a video on thin metal !! In part 1 you liked D6 as the setting. In part 2 you liked E7. So which is the better setting assuming same material thickness? Or is one used over the other depending on the situation (ie. joint type)?
@WeldFever8 жыл бұрын
It varies, and is sometimes so similar its hard to tell. It becomes kind of a "feel" thing.

My biggest problem is I have a heck of a time seeing the puddle. I have a great welder, good steady hand, good technique. I've practiced allot. I know to stay at the front of the puddle, I just can't ever see it. My new auto darkening helmet seems great. I think it's something I'm doing wrong.
@CountrysideStrong10 жыл бұрын
A couple things. On my new helmet, I didn't pull the thin plastic off the inside of the lens. I never saw it, just the outside one. Also, I had a leak where the line connects to the machine so I wasn't getting had to the gun. Everything fixed now and welding like a champ. Your videos are fantastic, keep em coming!!!!!

I'm needing to change my trailer axle with springs and find out how hard would it be to weld the brackets on.
@WeldFever10 жыл бұрын
Welding a few brackets on shouldn't be too bad, but then again, I don't know anything about your skill level, or the equipment you'll be using. What I will say is if you are new to welding (which I am assuming you are), keep watching my videos, and some others out there, and practice, practice, practice, before you tackle the job. Making a mock up that is as close to the real thing, then welding it, and finally trying to break it apart, will give you a pretty good idea as to how well you are able to weld the brackets on, before you actually do it. Good luck and thanks for your question!

Believe it or not I spent 7 years in the NAVY on submarines during the 80 s . I was on SSBN which go out 65 days or so then 50 days on land then back out to sea. There has to be 2 guys that have to know how to weld. I learned stick welding and to weld out to sea we have to be at periscope depth or surfaced . I wish it would have been mig welder as that is easier. I am disabled now but got lucky last week I found a 110 volt snap on mig welder. It did not work but I was a electronic tech reactor operator on subs . So I only paid 50 bucks . It has a bad diode block so I have to save up to buy one off ebay . They sell for around 40 bucks .

Dan, can you tell me if you ever weld wearing contact lenses, vs. eye glasses? Not sure if you ever wear contacts, but I do, and plan to learn to weld. Is it safe to do so?
@WeldFever9 жыл бұрын
+redroofretriever I never have. I used to wear contacts, but that was long before I started welding, so I have no personal experience. I think your question as to whether it is safe or not to weld with contacts on is better suited for your optometrist, so I don''t think I can comment on that one. Good luck.

@miltonhenders50219 жыл бұрын
what is the cause of the weld not adhering to the metal you are welding.
@WeldFever9 жыл бұрын
+Milton Henders A lack of fusion is usually the result of insufficient amperage (heat) or poor welding technique, or a combination of the two. If you are experiencing this, I suggest you keep watching my videos, keep practicing, and drop me a question when you get stuck.

petr nerad Keep your contact tip to workpiece distance, or stick out, between 1/4" to 3/8" (approx. 6.5 to 9.5mm). That's the usual culprit.
