(Ruth Saunders) I have just realized, days ago, that a church I gave been in for 3 yrs. is exactly like them, and that they are teaching a different Jesus and Salvation, and the other things he talks about! I can't believe I didn't see it all earlier! In hindsight I never heard the words sin or forgiveness much, if at all. Just heard- be in a right relationship with Jesus; he will save and heal you, set you free, (lots of that); just be in His presence, press in more to Him.... I am shocked, hurt, feel like all these people I was trusting are not honest, like I was duped. I thought they were Christian, not some New Reformation! And yes, I was giving to the church...

It talks about Jesus doing no (recorded) miracles until he was baptized in the Holy Spirit. Which means we also can do amazing things once baptized in the Holy Spirit. We had better do things Gods ways. He says those who love me will do as I command. What did Jesus command? How is obeying Him wrong?

Then why does Psalm 103:1-3 speak of all the benefits, which includes forgiveness and healing. Amazing that Peter shared the same, 1 Peter 2:24. Notice they both are written in the same order; forgiveness, then healing, but are the "benefits". Even John said, the condition of your body is connected to the condition of your soul, 3 John 1:2.

@@petratical apostle Paul wrote most of the New Testament and he still wasn’t completely healed. Jesus Christ also weeped over the cities in which there were no miracles because they did not believe. @@BarbaraMishkov Vara, what does Gods buffeting him to keep him from being puffed up with the revelations (2 Corinthians 12:7) Jesus gave him, (Galatians 1:12) , have to do with healing for us? No were does it say Paul was sick, as Sickness is not, and never has been, a "thorn in the flesh" that God will not remove! Paul identified physical weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, lashings (39 times), beatings (5 times), ship wrecks (3 times), getting stoned and left for dead, as being some of the specific techniques of buffeting used against him. No, as Paul did eventually die, but not of sickness, but by the arm of Roman, spurred on by Jewish hatred of Paul’s Gospel. Healing is for us who believe, as we can be in health, even as our soul prospers (Paul’s certainly did), as our souls prosper through the word (hearing it, studying it, 2 Timothy 2:15) Along with your mentioning, “ the cities in which there were no miracles because they did not believe”, it corresponds with what Jesus told the blind; “Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.” Matthew 9:29. As this all goes along with the old testament scripture; Malachi 4:2 “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” These wings are the tassels on the robe Jesus wore, as on the four corners of such robe are tassels called Tzi Tziot. These tassels on the hem of the garment were tied in such as way as to represent the 613 commandments of the Old Testament. By desiring to touch the Tzi Tziot of Jesus garment, the woman with the” issue of blood” (Luke 8: 43,44) was saying that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant, the covenant which included Psalm 103:2,3 who heals all our disease’s. Then Jesus, for all time, said what brought her healing when he said; ",,,thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace." verse 48, Thanks

Thank you for exposing this movement. I have 14 years of study and investigation of Sozo after losing a family member to Bethel Sozo in Redding California. Sozo emphasizes fresh, current, extra-biblical revelation over the written word. They pay lip-service to the “bible” but usually only quote enough passages-usually out of context-to sway the “clients” into believing it is a biblical practice; it is not. The regressive memory therapy movement (RMT) died out in the mid to late 1990s after malpractice lawsuits and overturned convictions resulting from those accused based on false recovered memories. Then, much of the public understood the dangers, however time and events have swept this knowledge from public consciousness. The movement morphed into churches and Bethel Sozo sprang upon the scene, arising from total ignorance of the false recovered memory movement-I have documented proof of this-and now it is growing exponentially. I am in contact with victims from all over the globe who have suffered devastating tragedy and loss, and currently filming a documentary of those harmed.

Many Christian leaders (from many different denominations) have been found to be abusing their power and abusing children in their care in recent years. By the same logic, that must surely mean that everyone that says they follow Christ is like that. Both you and them have a heart for helping those that are in need. If you have strategies that are more effective, then surely it stands to reason that it would benefit everyone to work with the other group to show what you have learnt (in a loving manor). Enduring faith is holding onto God through thick and thin. It's faith in who God is. It seems that Bill Johnson and Bethel Church put people's focus on what God can do for them, rather than on what He has already done in the cross of Christ, and the fact that human beings owe Him honour and worship and obedience. It's still a "man-centred gospel," rather than the God-centred Gospel.

To preface, I would consider myself a charismatic Christian, and one who mostly agrees with Bethel teachings. I want to say, I really appreciate Costi's kindness and humility in this video. He seems very genuine, and wants people to know the true Jesus, and the true gospel. I appreciate and respect that a whole lot! One of the core misconceptions that they addressed in the video is that Bethel teaches that Jesus lived as only man on Earth, laid down his divinity, and thereby gives us an example as believers to follow in pursuing miracles, and healing, etc. I would say that I would totally agree with Costi, that if Jesus died as man, then there was no atonement for our sin. Jesus died as God. I believe that Bethel would agree with that, that Jesus walked this Earth fully God, and fully man. I think Bill's argument(which is founded in Phil. 2:5-11), is that Jesus willingly withheld his divine power while on this Earth, and operated in the power of the Holy Spirit while he cast out demons, healed the sick, preached the good news of the Kingdom. Jesus had access to that power anytime he wanted, he was still fully God, and I believe Bill has said that Jesus wanted to model for us what it would look like to be fully yielded to the Holy Spirit. We obviously aren't Jesus, and will never be fully yielded as Jesus was, because he is perfect. But the rest of this life for us, is learning to crucify the flesh, and learning to be yielded to the Holy Spirit, and letting Him have His way in our lives. All 4 gospel accounts record Jesus being baptized and given the Holy Spirit, and then going into the wilderness for testing. According to scripture, Jesus didn't do any miracles until after he was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. Maybe Jesus did do miracles before He was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit, but Scripture doesn't mention if he does or not. I think Bill is arguing that Jesus purposely withheld Himself and his Godly power, and did the miracles as man(meaning in man's human limitation fully empowered by the Holy Spirit). In doing so, gave way for us to walk in the same power of the Holy Spirit today! This might not be the best example, but it's kind of like the tv show Undercover Boss, when the CEO comes and works as a cashier in a local store. At any moment he could use His authority as CEO to promote, demote, fire. However he chooses to be limited to his authority as a cashier. I think Costi is right, we do need to make sure the core tenets of our faith are in line, which include a right view of Jesus. I don't think they are fully understanding Bethel and Bill Johnson's view of Jesus being both fully God and fully man. I hope this better clarifies Bethel's view on the matter. Lastly, just again really appreciate Costi and his desire for unity amongst believers, and making sure we are aligned on who Jesus is, and the true gospel!

The problem is we have no diect Bible verses indicating that Jesus ”laid aside” his divinity. In fact it seems the very opposite is the case with the hemorraging woman in Mark 5: 25 where it describes how Jesus perceived the power go out from him without his direct action. So already we come up against problems with Bill’s interpretation.

@@JeansiByxan Great and very fair questions! Like you said, the scripture doesn't say he "laid aside" his divinity. Some translations including one of the more accurate word for word translations(NASB) says Jesus, "emptied" himself. Other translations say he gave up his divine privileges. I would say that it's totally fair to question the interpretation of that passage to mean, that he laid aside this spiritual power, and authority. It isn't super clear, what the scripture means by Jesus "emptying" Himself. I think as long as Christians can agree on Jesus being fully God and fully man, I think there is room for differing interpretations. I think my point mentioned previously, was that I think people are misunderstanding Bethel's stance because of semantics. I believe Bethel believes that Jesus was fully God and man as he walked the Earth. However, here is why I personally agree that I think Jesus limited Himself while on the Earth, and walked in the power of the Holy Spirit. In John 5:19 and 5:30 Jesus says, "I can do nothing of myself". In the Mark 5:25 passage you referenced, my interpretation, is that he discerned through the Holy Spirit that power left Him. In Acts 19:11-12, the scripture mentions that even Paul's handkerchiefs and aprons were healing people. Paul certainly isn't God, but the power of the Holy Spirit on Him was healing people. I think when men and women of God(by the Holy Spirit) put to death the flesh, we let the Holy Spirit flow through our lives. The more our flesh which is decaying and corrupting, dies, and the more yielded to the Holy Spirit we are, the more Christ will come out as we interact with the lost, with our families, coworkers. The more in times of hardship, the peace and joy of Christ will reign in our hearts and minds. The more in times of stress, His love will flow through us, when don't feel like loving. We aren't perfect, and praise God for his abundant mercy and grace. Jesus however was perfect, in being so was a perfect vessel for the Holy Spirit to flow through. I believe Jesus could've accessed His divine power at any moment, but I believe He wanted to model for us what it could look like to let the Holy Spirit fully have His way.

Except that Jesus said “believe that I am who I say I am by the miracles that I do”. John 10:38. The works testify to his divinity, not just to his access to the Holy Spirit, as a man. Not just that, Jesus Christ was completely sinless. We all have access to the same Spirit he did, but we sin. That sets us apart from Jesus; it is not just the Holy Spirit that he had as a man, but as God, that made him sinless. Therefore he did not with hold his divine power, his divine power is what made him sinless. He also knew people’s circumstances and read their minds, something humans cannot do with or without the Holy Spirit, none of the apostles for example was able to know that someone had 5 husbands (woman at the well) or what they were thinking. Jesus Christ did not just operate as a man wielding the Holy Spirit, but as God

Thank you for this. One of the most humble, edifying commentaries on Bethel. So much commentary on this topic is “us” vs “them”, which a lot of times, leads to arrogance and divisiveness. We should have space for affirmation and correction like this, with a basis on Scripture. The Body (whichever denomination we are in) will make mistakes because we are human. But if we do not balance truth with love, and if we do not exercise humility, we let the enemy win when we’re supposed to look out for each other (Phil 2:4). Let’s keep a close watch on ourselves and the teachings we preach and practice. So that we may save ourselves and our hearers (referencing 1 Tim 4:16). Like Paul did in warning about false doctrine, let us aim to have love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith (referencing 1 Tim 1:6), to actually want the best for each other as brothers and sisters. So that God gets the glory. Blessings.

God himself said there is a divide, separation of the ''Sheep'' From the ''Goats''. The reality is, if you teach contradictory messages to what is in the Bible, you're lost, and have the spirit of the Anti Christ. The Bible Teaches us this. Now being filled with hate is a different story, love them but pray for them. Titus 1:16 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. We all need to walk cautiously and reflect daily, for living in Truth and following Godliness is the path.

@@harrymurray9702 - IMO, the OP's point is that we are in our separate denominations seeing things ( Bible included ) differently. And we ALL will get things wrong. In my added opinion, the verses you cited didn't fully address the Reality that we Brothers and Sisters in Christ will NOT see eye-to-eye on lifestyles, ethics, even tastes. So, you might be averse to metaphorically "eating meat sacrificed to idols" while I am absolutely not. Or vice versa. In that regard, it is imperative that you and I do not play God as if we are Mind Readers and making ourselves out to be as God in doing inventories on each other where we see sin. It's not as easy as it sounds, for sure, because life is not meant to be static, but a Path of Salvation until we physically die. It's not all about "Truth", for without Grace, and our responsibility to be consistently humble, i.e. knowing our place not "playing God", then we are clanging cymbals. A whole lot of noise that is hard on the ears. "Godliness" encompasses far, far more than what is usually preached and pronounced in these YT Comments sections.

@Daniel - Thought I'd least say an "Amen" to you! ( If you ever see this. LoL ) Seldom do I see what strikes me as a deeper message about Love involving not only Truth, but the vital ingredient of Humility. To me, in some ways this appears obvious, no? Being re-born requires humility in accepting our place under God. ( Wish I remembered where I read the quote ( paraphrased ) that said: "We come to Christ in humility. Then we spend the rest of our lives forgetting to be humble." I think it was some Catholic Bishop. ) My idea ( at least one notion ) of wanting the best for my Brother or Sister is to NOT be me! Simple enough, but we are not a cult, and I do not worship the Cult Leader as God. He is our Creator, amazingly powerful in His creativity, including the variety of temperament, skills, aesthetics, vision for Truth, in the human race. I cannot convince my TULIP Presbyterians out of their theology, nor can they fully persuade me to agree with them. Nor do I jive with the Prosperity Gospel, yet I align with Charismatics in other ways they see Power, Authority, Vision of / in the Spirit. And I've had this conversation with my overall more conservative Christian buddy for years how we have VASTLY different views on Entertainment ( TV/Movies/Music ), drinking, speech, work, comedy. If we were both hard-lined about our views and used Scripture to battle it out, then we wouldn't be as good of friends as we are. In Love, we disagree, but extend respect in basically respecting each other in our uniqueness under God. We challenge each other by living our lives, and "sharpening" comes through giving each other space to think for ourselves, struggle, make mistakes, while not playing Hypocrite. Part of the problem comes when I am tempted ( by my Flesh, the Enemy, or both working in unison ) to elevate myself above my Brother and call out his sin. If we are being serious about sin, I mean truly serious, then it can show up in many facets of life / attitude / rationalization. Which is why I do roll my eyes when Conservative Christians bring up certain sins more ( usually of a sexual nature ), but leave out other sins on the level of "abomination". Liberal Christians bring up certain sins more ( usually of a lack of compassion, those of injustice ), but turn away from their own arrogance or hypocrisies. Aren't we all hypocrites in our own ways? Aren't we all working out our salvation throughout life? My Final 2 Cents: It is very easy to point out the sin in our Brother's eye. And what I would add is that it is very tempting. As in: It can lead to sin real quick in that there is a FINE LINE between bringing up sin in another VS crossing over into pride that "we" are not in any way whatsoever guilty of that sin. Really? I lean towards: Much more often than now you and I and the Church are. If that teaching of Christ were taken to heart across the world, imagine what the Kingdom of God would look like on Earth. Grace, Truth, Laughter, Love to Us All.

I remember when our church had a worship night and Bethel was the musical guest. I had a former friend with me there who had a disease that she'd had for years and when they did the "healing" portion of the night (which I wasn't expecting, I wasn't too familiar with Bethel at the time) I got a little excited. They had all this "knowledge" about people in the audience with random aches and pains, but not once mentioned anything close to what my friend was going through (she has Lyme disease). I remember thinking it was strange, they seemed to be so "in tune" with the audience.

Let's say - if Bill Johnson were to watch this interview, and if he were humble enough to quietly admit to himself "yeah, Costi's right" - I'm afraid he might freeze with fear - because it would cost him everything to change... As a regular human who has built up such movement, and invested so much of his reputation, he could not walk away. He has to keep on.... It's a trap that he can't escape from. And yet - God is ready and merciful enough to accept his repentence. Let's be honest, there are so many false teachers and doctrines today - and it can be depressing - but in each one - as in this interview - there is the joy of hearing the Gospel.....

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. One of the main issues with the Bethel movement is that they have as a goal the "power," as they view it, of the Spirit being manifested, so to do this, they have changed the Gospel (Jesus was just a man in right relationship with God) and they have embraced New Age and occultic practices with the excuse that "the enemy has taken those tools from us and we need to reclaim them" (literally what it says in their book of The Physics of Heaven). If you are using and encouraging occultic practices then your are practicing abominations (Deut. 18).

He’s become more and more focused on proving the strength of his faith for things which aren’t scripture to be fulfilled, (ie.God told me I was going to have the money I need without having to secure a paying job) and now he’s in a very precarious position. Take away all the supposed misunderstandings about what the leader of Bethel believes. Is this church focusing its members on what Jesus has done for them, or are they focusing members on what THEY should do for Jesus and proving their empowerment?

I am glad that Bethel has backed off a bit on that 2nd belief. I have a question about the first. If it say on their beliefs page that Jesus is "true God" and "true man", but merely acts in his personhood in the miraculous, are we still as concerned about their Gospel? "WHILE HE IS 100 PERCENT GOD, He chose to live with the same limitations that man would face once he was redeemed. He made that point over and over again. Jesus became the model for all who would embrace the invitation to invade the impossible in His name. He performed miracles, wonders, and signs as a man in right relationship to God…not as God." (When Heaven invades Earth - kindle ch2 p4) But the NAR is false, it was formerly known as latter rain or manifest sons of God.. they have all gone beyond scripture to get more power, just have a look at Bethels book The Physics of Heaven, that is truly the icing on the crumbling cake !!! and it is taught at their bible school which means they are infecting the whole world with their new age teaching.. You've just scratched the surface. There are their beliefs and there are the practices which are manifested through the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM). It's a mixture of truth and error in theology and in practice. One of Bill Johnson's defining statements is "I was born for revival". He says he has studied revival throughout history and believes he knows why revival is short lived. He believes that he can bring about a revival that can be sustained indefinitely. That's the purpose of BSSM, Bethel music and the books he writes. It's his venue for creating and sustaining revival and it has worldwide influence. So, he has taken God out of the equation and put the responsibility on himself, his organization, and whoever he can influence. That, I believe, is the catalyst that has led him into error. Unfortunately, it has led many other people around the world into error also. We are warned in scripture about this kind of thing. There would be false apostles, false prophets and false teachers among us (2Co. 11:13) (2Pet. 2:1) (1Jn. 4:1) (Mt. 7:15-20). So, how do we know who the genuine apostles, prophets and teachers are today. By the fruit they produce. There will be no error in what they say and do. They won't be building their own kingdom or promoting themselves. They will be strong promoters of Jesus and the kingdom of God. They will do no harm to the people of God, only what's useful for building up the body of Christ.

@@sspicer549 1 Corinthians 14 1.Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts.. 26 Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you. 27 No more than two or three should speak in tongues. They must speak one at a time, and someone must interpret what they say. 28 But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately. 29 Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said. 30 But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop. 31 In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged. 32 Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people. 39 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues]

The way I understood it about healing other people now, as disciples of Jesus is from this Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:5-12: There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. Jesus could do all these because He was and is Jesus, but we each have a calling. I don't have a calling for healing, personally, but that doesn't mean I'm not a disciple. But I think some people have a calling - that's their Egypt that God rescued them from, and now is using to rescue others from as well. I do know there is this Scripture: John 14:12-14: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. I guess this is where the Jesus 2.0 would come from. I haven't done greater works than these though and I haven't felt called to, personally. I think this was a great video! It's my first time seeing both of you and hearing about the Bethel movement - I really loved it! I loved the love and respect you guys showed! Thank you so much for making this video! God bless you both, abundantly!! :) :) :)

You're too kind towards the Rediscover Bethel series. They never admit doing or teaching anything wrong. No apologies or repentance. All they do is speak double-tongued. He outright said he believes what he wrote in When Heaven Invades Earth, even though he won't say it any longer.

@GradoniusTheWise 2 жыл бұрын
Let me preface this by saying I have many issues with Bethel but I believe we need to sharpen our arguments against them and that the “Not as God” arguments is not a valid complaint against them. At my work I am both a developer and a manager and I have developer privileges and manager privileges to perform certain actions. When training a new developer, I will let them watch how I work as a developer. Even though I can use my manager overrides to perform actions differently, I show them how to work as a developer and I limit my capabilities for their sake. At all times I am both fully a developer and a manager and never have I given up being a manager or stopped having that authority. This is all I believe Bill Johnson was saying in that statement and this belief would not be classified as heresy. I would love to hear a thought out rebuttal though if you have one.
@OlivusOrchards
@OlivusOrchards 2 жыл бұрын
@@GradoniusTheWise you didn't acknowledge my point. To further explain the problem, Bethel theology leads to: Different Christ - laid his divinity aside, was born again, gave us his anointing Different Father - who is dependent on us to release His will on earth Different Holy Spirit - appears as a cloud of gold dust, looks like a blue djinni, causes people to act like animals and crazy laughter Different gospel - adding perfect health, abundance of wealth, and power to perform miracles on demand Different atonement - Christ died for spiritual, physical, financial, emotional healing....and oh yeh forgiveness of sins Different source of authority - Bible plus modern day Apostles Different practices - file tunnels, grave soaking, decreeing, not praying "according to your will God", everything at BSSM DIfferent ways of hearing from God - prophets, dreams, words of knowledge, and a new prophetic Bible version "The Passion Translation" It's a cult, an apostate church, a heretical church. Just as far off as Catholics, JWs, Mormons, Moonies. If it doesn't mislead people to hell, it certainly stunts their ability to know and worship God in spirit and truth.

If Jesus was just a man how can He raise Himself from Dead? How can He save another man? How can He be the one to give us Eternal Life that you cannot lose? If Jesus was not God how could His blood save you from sin? How could He be sinless? Everyone has sinned and come short of God's glory, was it a man saying that or a God, because He is not inclusive in that statement? You don't know that Jesus Christ was God? All other prophets had in trace of sin record to them but they had their testimony that they pleased God by Faith. Jesus wasn't a prophet and He never sinned. What do you make of that?
