Episode 13 is Part 2 of a discussion on whether Pakistan should have been formed? Quaid-i-Azam is remembered for saying “What is this broken, moth-eaten Pakistan you have given me?” The realities were the other players in India were ruthless. Aftab Iqbal says we need to move past this question. He believes we have something that is better than nothing. Aftab Iqbal picks up the topic of the two-nation theory and explains this did not require a Pakistan, but it did lead to a Pakistan. It shows the crucial link between the Indian partition and British fears about Russia gaining control of Central Asia. Thinking that Indian nationalists might ally the Soviet Union, the British settled for those willing to do so, using Muslim Pakistanis as a political tool in pursuit of their objectives. The British could not afford to leave a communist nation that could be influenced by Russia. Then in The nation that lost its soul: memoirs of a freedom fighter by Shaukat Hyat Khan he showed that Quaid-i-Azam once agreed to delay the formation of Pakistan when he tried to ally with India, but Patel would not agree. If Pakistan was not formed, Iqbal states that Muslims in India would be like Palestinians or Kashmiris. The problem with Pakistan is that our history is a hodgepodge. Aftab believes we can make some major advancement because Pakistan is a more viable state than India if we can accept our true history and move forward.
