Thanks for this interesting comparison. I am viewing this video on an iPad Pro 10.5, and found it difficult to see much difference on your first copy-paper . However the second sheet, with the water test showed the differences. The only ink , of the six, that I have used is Red Dragon, which I have used for over four years. I initially kept a Platinum PTL-5000 with a gold Medium nib, filled with this ink and , then, after losing the pen used a Platinum PTL-10000 M gold pen. I use this colour for taking notes and scoring for my daily games of Canasta. I noticed, yet again, yesterday how well Red Dragon flowed from the PTL-10000. With regular using and refilling, the pen-ink combination has never dried out, given a false-start or skipped. As I live in England, Diamine inks are by far the best value inks on the market .

Love dark reds. I have Oxblood, Syrah, Monaco Red and Red Dragon. I also like Diamine Deep Dark Red, which is only available though Cult Pens.

Red Dragon is indeed a lovely ink. I also like Pure Pens Cadwaladr, made by Diamine, which is quite similar to Red Dragon.

Oh, I didn't realise Pure Pens inks were made by Diamine... it makes a lot of sense. I tried a few a couple of years ago... including Cadwaladr... which I loved. Thanks for that.

Two things: 1. Was looking for such a comparison. With so many of these darker Diamine reds appearing fairly similar, it's great to see them side by side. Thank you. 😎👍 2. This is a paid promotion. Receiving free goods from a retailer is payment - regardless of their cost. Clearly, you understood this and made mention of the specific retailer multiple times. Whilst I do not believe your views and experiences with these inks were clouded by the payment here, it is still nonetheless a payment and therefore a paid promotion. I have no issues with this being a paid promotion, rather the fact you state in the description this is not a paid promotion & therefore can be seen to be deceptive. Cheers.

Coincidentally just as I started watching this I was doodling with my Pelikan M205 Classic Star Ruby pen filled with Diamine Red Dragon. It has been one of my favorite reds since I first got it, along with Noodler's Tiananmen Red. These two satisfy my dark red needs, but of course there are the burgundies and true bright reds for more diversity.

I’ve only two Red Dragon and Oxblood Love them booth . I prefer shading inks . That Monaco Red is a must for me now Thx for doing this Well done Also check out Ancient Copper which skews a bit brown I suppose PEACE

I have Monaco and quite enjoy it. I need to pick up a Red Dragon sample... Also, Diamine is probably my favorite brand for the price. I tend to prefer Sailor and Pilot Iroshizuku, but they are...over double the price of Diamine.

Thanks Mick. The inks all look pretty similar on the left screen. But the right screen shows their subtle differences quite well. I've already used Oxblood and Syrah and like them both a lot. I must give Monaco and Crimson a try soon in a clear demonstrator. Yours are the best ink reviews since Matt Armstrong of Pen Habit

Good comparison Mick. I only have Red Dragon from these but tempted by Syrah and Oxblood. Very cheap to get the 30ml Diamine bottles here in the UK

Syrah is wonderful when you get around to it. If I had to put a top 5 ink list together it would probably go very close to being included.

Hi Mick. Thanks for another great review. I really like your swab book system. Nice. The Red Dragon shade seems a mile out from the ink I get on the page. Was it an old sample? Mine is a vibrant deep red. This looked 'oxidised' and dull, or something. More like a dull magenta. Anyway, I enjoyed the video and am grateful for the work you put in. :)

‘Syrah’ is pronounced ‘see-rah’, not ‘sai-rah’. It’s a wine grape varietal, though in Australia it’s called ‘Shiraz’, so your mispronunciation is understandable. ;)
