It is indeed a wonderful ink, but the best part of all is that it's so damned cheap to buy and is readily available. Diamine do great work and this is one of the many stars of their show.

In choosing a red ink, if you want it to really be distinctive and not like reds from a ballpoint, I would say Oxblood is a great way to go.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why this ink is receiving as much hype as it does. I love the description and the idea of this ink, but I found myself terribly disappointed. While it performs nicely, the color just is NOT red; it is a brown. Orange-brown. It dries brown. Personally, I dislike brown ink, and I much regret my purchase based on all the raving reviews. I have since come to find many more people who had the same experience, so I'd HIGHLY recommend testing a sample for color before purchase. I will say, though, that, curiously, it looks great and exactly the color I would have expected it to be when flushed in the sink... Having said that, brilliant review! Will come back for more.

I enjoy the color, but I do think that some of the allure of the ink is in the name. I always recommend getting a sample before a bottle because we have different color preferences and these inks have ha slight difference in them that can make all the difference in the world.

This is such a gorgeous ink. I use it a lot, but I've run into flow issues in my Pilot gold nibs. Have you heard of that? Same thing with Ancient Copper. These inks work fabulously in other pens though. Say, would you happen to know the viscosity on Diamine Writer's Blood? I couldn't find that you've reviewed that one on your channel. Thanks for all you do! You're amazing.

I haven't heard of any issues with any Diamine inks having flow issues in Pilot or any other pens. This is news to me, but thank you for sharing it. I have no idea about the viscosity of Writers Blood, I stopped doing those test a while ago.

Great review! I love your methods and consistency/systematic approach. I’m just getting started in fountain pens and inks. Great review. I just ordered a bottle. Looks like a great color. I've been looking for a dark brown, as I have been using a Montblanc brown that is pretty light, and love the idea of a red/brown that is on the darker side. Wonder how this will look on a cream paper... We'll see. Thanks!

The Tomoe River Paper at 4:47 is a cream toned paper, though TR is a freak show in how ink performs. This is definitely cheaper than the Montblanc inks. I feel confident you will be happy you have a bottle.

Just from my experience with the ink it goes well with every pen. This is truly one of Diamine's Legendary inks for a reason.

This ink behaves beautifully in my Pilot Decimo. Other inks are very dry and scratchy. It seems that Diamine inks are on the wetter side.

@@AnInkGuy it is indeed. I was thinking of Diamine Imperial purple for the next time even though I'm a bit concerned about its saturation. I've been using it with Lamy Safari only ever since I got that ink, never experimented with other pen. I've checked your other video in which you said that it might be probelm to get it out of the pen. The truth is that it left a little bit of light purple tone in the corners of the original plastic bottle but I was able to get it out with soapy warm water. We will see.

On the majority it only takes water to get most any ink out of a pen, I don't disassemble pens to clean. Diamine id a good safe brand. The most I've dealt with is a little discoloration in the converter that takes a little extra water and patience to get rid of. I wouldn't stress it in your pen.

How does this red compare with Monteverde's Red Velvet, also a brownish red?

The swatches look VERY Similar, but the writing is darker with the Oxblood.

I really love this ink in all the video's and sample images I have seen, but my bottle just came in and i'm actually really disappointed. Possibly I just got an odd batch, but mine can only be described as a 'brown' ink. I have tried it on several different papers, done thick inky swaps, smears, all sorts, and not once has it shown even a hint of red pigment. Even a hint would have brought out that 'blood' look, but it's like it is missing and i'm simply getting the brown... It is so highly recommended for it's likeness to the brown bloodish tones that I can see in samples, but my bottle sadly is just missing that. I'll have to try something else and i'll pick one with a heavier red pigment this time, but i'm considering mixing a red into my oxblood bottle, as i'm not liking it at the moment, and writing life is too short and great inks too many to use inks you don't love using.

I don't know why..... I have heard of the VERY RARE case where a bottle is mismarked. As a curiosity perhaps do a chromatography and see it that matches, or is at least very close, to what you see in the video. If it doesn't then I would contact Diamine or the retailer and let them know what you find. Mine was definitely more red with the brown that comes through in the darker areas.

I went to the river yesterday for a long writing session, and I ran out of ink. I had a vial of Diamine Oxblood with about 1mL left, but for some reason my Jinhao X450 converter just won't suck up the ink, so I have to use a syringe when I refill. Imagine being a stranger witnessing this process, some rando filling a pen with a syringe with a vial of blood-red liquid that also dries like the color of blood and a droplet or two dripping down their hands, who then writes with it. What would you think?

@An Ink Guy I wish Diamine Oxblood was bulletproof. I feel like one way to make it semi-waterproof is to mix with Noodler's bulletproof ink. I only have Noodler's black at the moment, so I might experiment. Just don't want it to come out even darker brown. I think there's a bulletproof or at least semi-waterproof Noodler's Red Black, partial as far as the red probably washing out and the black staying because it's just a mix of the Noodler's red & black inks. Could you do a video on Noodler's Red-Black, and maybe a video Diamine Oxblood & Noodler's Black mixture?

@@user-rv6kf3sx1n It will get a lot darker if you mix Noodler's Black into it. If you add just a drop to like 3-5 mils you might get a little darker and get some of the water resistance, I'm not sure. I hadn't thought about doing videos of ink mixes. It seems like it would become extremely expensive very quickly. I may consider it at some time in the future.

Yes, Apica CD. The paper feels smooth and soft to write on. Very fountain pen friendly.

Love my Oxblood so much but if used on a bad paper it unfortunately feathers (which is what I am using at the office)

Unfortunately so many people use bad paper so often. It is probably why they don't think anything about the office supply products they choose. Like a stapler is just a stapler, when clearly they are not all the same. I stopped worrying about the paper supplied to me at work and ink my pen with what I feel like using. I also carry a pad of good paper for my personal note taking. I refuse to let their bad paper ruin my enjoyment.

@@AnInkGuy yeah but my work involves heavily with those cheap paper so I usually uses Noodler's Black for those. I was surprised to find that the Oxblood also feathers a bit on my Rhodia Webnotebook

@@pntm2006 I have tried the Rhodia Wednotebook Webbies, the paper is definitely different than the regular Rhosia dot pad. My webbie has a problem with bleeding with almost every ink. Disappointing. Maybe give a try to the regular Rhosia Dot pad, I haven't had a problem with that.
