"I said hey I think I'm broken and though I was only joking, it took me by surprise when you agreed" is easily one of the top 3 greatest opening lines to a song. Diamond Rio was and is a great songwriting band. I miss this era of country. I still listen to Hank sr and think WTF happened to country music?

My Girlfriend Jessica passed away in Texas at the age of 31. (September 2022) She was actually clean & sober for a year. She glowed Jesus. However she passed away from Heart Troubles. She wanted to be laid to rest next to her little Brother’s Grave back in Jackson, Tennessee. (Where we first met.) When my Work here is finished & God Almighty calls me home. I will be laid to rest there as well. I always cherish the memories. My only regret is that we didn’t get hitched. I have been a Diamond Rio Fan since I was a Teen. Never heard this song before though. It speaks every thang I feel inside with volumes. Much obliged to Y’all! ✨👏🏻✨❤️🔥

I just heard them 2 days ago and unfortunately they have so many hits that they now sing this in a medley. Was waiting to hear this played. They sound so good 30+ years on, with Carson playing now, plus they used a backup player on banjo that night, a 16 yr old boy from Dollywood, pretty cool!

My Mamma passed in 2020. The closest I was ever able to get to her was during the last few months of her life. We always talked on the phone, but lived in different states. But I made several trips to care for her during her last months. I know more about her now than I did when she was alive. I wish so much that she would have opened up to me. I miss our calls. I just miss her so much. She was a beautiful lady and a great mother to four children. She suffered in silence. I love you and miss you so much Mamma!😢❤

This is one of the most heart-wrenching songs I’ve ever heard. At 2:55 it sounds like someone reached in his chest and squeezed his heart till it burst. Then the instrumentals come in to sweep you into a whirlwind of emotions. Pure genius lyrically, musically, and vocally.

My brother-in-law died in a car crash one year ago this week, far too soon for a man who was far too young. He was a big man with a bigger heart, a gentle giant who left people around him better for having known him. He touched so many people's lives -- his wife, parents, siblings, and many neices and nephews, not to mention his countless friends. To meet him once was to be his friend, whether you were the server at his favorite restaurant or a customer at his business. And when a customer was just a little short this time, he would still happily do the job as if it were the most important thing he was doing at the time.Things weren't always easy for him; yet he never would complain. That wasn't his way. He didn't want others to be worrying over him.I can't believe it's been a year since the last time we saw him. Time passes quickly, somtimes far too much so.If any good has come from his being gone, it's the constant reminder I have to enjoy the life in front of me, and to make sure I spend some time each day making life better for someone else.Thank you, John for being my brother-in-law and for welcoming me into your family all those years ago.I love you, John and I miss you.

I've listened to this song a thousand times in two years. Diamond Rio needs more recognition. I lost my wife in 2023. She was 52. We grew up in the country two miles apart, I don't remember a time that she wasn't in my life somehow, we were always best friends. We both got married young but still kept in touch. After we were both divorced we ran into each other and she confessed that she loved me when we were still kids and I confessed to her that I'd loved her since I was 15. It took 30 years before my childhood dream came true and we got married. Our love is something from a storybook. She was my world, a faithful wife, a wonderful mother to our kids and the best Nana to our grandbabies. I lost her to a blood clot one morning. I didn't know why except that God had better plans for her.

This is one of the most touching songs ever. Absolutely beautiful. Diamond Rio had such great talent in both instruments and voices. They had so many great songs that never made it to number 1 because of other great songs by other great musical artists like Reba, Brooks and Dunn and Alan Jackson. Alabama literally ruled the 80's in country music but by the 90's they had been slipping back some and their songs weren't as good as the song they had in the 80's. IMO, Diamond Rio should have had way more number 1 songs than they had.

My friend it has been a long time since I posted this comment. I'm guessing you are working through a loss of someone special. I am sincerely sorry. My philosophy is that all of us have a certain quota of sadness we need to work through before we can move on. Embrace it. Be sad. Be angry. `Yell at your toaster oven. Share a beverage with the potted plant you never really liked. Walk somewhere you never normally go. Get it out. Someday, I believe, I hope, life will be worth looking forward to. You will use up your sadness quota. And I think you will find something else emotionally to do. But until you get there it really sucks. Good luck my friend.

2022 here. With Marty singing and Gene and Dana's harmonies, they just complement each other so well. Throw in Jimmy on guitar. Diamond Rio is one of the best country bands ever.

This song, especially the second verse, reminds me of a girl I was in love with that I lost over a decade ago. Took me years to fully get over her.

God Bless all of you good people who have good hearts, morals, and love for mankind. I lost my Dad..my hero, my best friend, and a great father and teacher to me 3 years ago. It still hurts each and every day that passes and I wish there was some way to still love him in person. I love you Dad and miss you so much! Bob

I said hello I think I'm broken And though I was only jokin' It took me by surprise when you agreed I was tryin' to be clever For the life of me I never Would have guessed how far the simple truth would lead You knew all my lines You knew all my tricks You knew how to heal that pain No medicine can fix And I bless the day I met you And I thank God that He let you Lay beside me for a moment that lives on And the good news is I'm better For the time we spent together And the bad news is you're gone Lookin' back it's still surprisin' I was sinking you were rising With a look you caught me in mid-air Now I know God has His reasons But sometimes it's hard to see them When I awake and find that you're not there You found hope in hopeless Your made crazy sane You became the missing link That helped me break my chains And I bless the day I met you And I thank God that He let you Lay beside me for a moment that lives on And the good news is I'm better For the time we spent together And the bad news is you're gone The bad news is you're gone

im listening to this song after my brother in law passed..just a couple of days ago:'( he was in a work accident & didnt make it. it was instant & then he just was gone. i cant stop crying everytime i think of a memory of him, he loved my sister and his two little girls so much. he did all those little things that a dad does when he has daughters. my heart is just torn, that he left so suddenly & no one should die like that, everyone should be able to grow old & die in their warm beds after having grandchildren & great grandchildren. he was only 31 yrs old. & he did his best at everything he did. he was a risk taker(for good things) a slight perfectionist and a giver. he just helped everyone he could wherever he could. God has his reasons & i know he's in heaven racing his cars & just taking it easy. he will be in our hearts forever & he was just a great person. love you Saul, my 2nd brother in law.
