If you can understand physics and the parabolic path of projectiles first mentioned by Galileo, it becomes hindsight for them to understand whether or not it will be a "good" one. Any kind of sport involving throwing or launching (javelin throw, hammer throw, discus throw, shot put etc) always requires an athlete to aim for a 45° angle with the most power as that generates the furthest range for the projectile.

Well, these are olympian professional throwers, they are not going to hit the judges. You have like 7-10 seconds of air time on those throws. All you need to do is just side-step 3 feet to the left or right and you're good. And there's a reason why you are not on that field and they are. Because they are all current or past coaches of javelin throwers, ex amateur or professional javelin throwers themselves. Everyone knows what's at stake.

First ever Olympic competition and original Olympic games of ancient Greek states in ancient Greece had athletics competitions, archery and spear (javelin) throw competitions. Probably other events such as swimming and hammer throw and discus throw were added from the fourth edition of the ancient Greek games or so.

Why can't the same guy do the same thing in the Olympics tho? Vetter throwing 90 here, couldn't even cross 85 in the finals of Olympic 2021.
