Reading all the comments with people saying they never changed their monitor's refresh rate tells me that microsoft really should implement a feature that automatically sets the highest possible refresh rate when plugging in a monitor. Or at least have a popup notification telling the user they can change their refresh rate with an "accept" button, so they don't accidentally skip the message.

One upgrade that is super underrated is a headset with proper surround sound. I got my steel series arctis pro wireless headset after desiring one for 5-6 years and boy when I say it's worth it, I mean it. I went from barely being able to understand whether someone is upstairs or downstairs in some games to being able to keep track of the exact location of every sound naturally without moving my perspective an inch and it's mainly thanks to the software that comes with the headset and its ability to adjust whether the surround sound aspect is immersing you in the game or simply making extremely accurate and separate sound queues in addition to being able to adjust the distance at which sounds are heard from the user. I've had an issue where when I can hear the sounds accurately, they end up scaring me when they are too close, but with the adjustable settings that Steel Series provides with their software I was able to make the sounds far enough to not scare me, but accurate enough to tell exactly where every enemy is at all times without shifting my in-game view from where I'm aiming.

Good open back stereo headphones are better than any "gaming" headset with surround sound. The surround sound those have is fake. It's just software trying to emulate real surround sound and it's not that good really. Most, if not all competitive shooters have spatial audio built into the game/engine that works better than the software any gaming headsets use. Spatial audio in games is usually meant to be used with stereo headphones and might even break sounds with the fake surround sound that gaming headsets use. I used to have the same headset as you, but I'll never go back to them after switching to a pair of open back headphones. I head far more than I ever did with any gaming headset, and the sound quality is significantly better.

I was skeptical of upgraded gear making a difference, but I got my parent a cheap Razer mouse with 1000Hz to replace their office mouse that died recently, and loaded up a cheeky game just to check, and it was nice. It's got me thinking a higher refresh monitor than 60 would probably be good as well. Not really any more expensive than a 60Hz one, either. Might as well get one eventually. I have been doing a ton of research and have looked at countless videos about glass mousepads, specifically the wallhack sp-04, and the one thing that is mostly consistent with a lot of people is how your arm or wrist sticks to the mousepad. The only exception to this rule is if you live in a colder climate or wear an arm sleeve, which I am not going to do either. Also the fact that I live in Florida and how it is usally very humid also makes it worse for me maybe I might buy a glasspad sometime in the future, but I decided to buy the artesian raiden mid and I am willing to maintain it weekly with washes.

For a good Hall Effect keyboard, try the Gamakay TK75HE, I’ve been using it now for a couple months and it really changed performance in everything not just gaming. Obviously, there’s better HE keyboards like the Wooting, but i wanted to get out of the 60% layout since i also need other keys for work stuff (plus the price is nuts). The software is decent, theres two switch options (Silent and linear), it can be wireless and also pretty sure it comes factory lubed. Overall, a pretty decent keyboard for the price. It does only come in one colour but the actual housing is only white so keycaps are the only issue for me.

I think there’s another big reason why people get pain other than just heavy mouse with slow pad. And that’s terrible ergonomics. I used to be guilty of this. I aimed with my wrist, while sitting too low and it fucked my wrist so bad. I had so much tension. Getting the right chair height, desk height and position makes aiming with your full arm possible and easy. That’s the biggest aspect to reducing pain or strain. Yes. Lightness is better in general but I think with good posture and form one could avoid pain easily despite a ‘heavy’ mouse. That said, aiming precisely would be harder and I’d recommend a light mouse AND changing seating position for someone experiencing pain.
@diztinger
@diztinger 4 ай бұрын
that is very true. Good mouse shape and ergonimics >> weight. I've been using prime mini wireless for 6 months now and it is a huge step up from Haste wireless just because of the way it fits my hand, even though it's 10 grams heavier. Good suggestions here. I'd only push back on lighter mice being strictly better. I think weight is very preferential and isnt going to make a difference for most people in terms of arm pain. Ergonomics are what matters there imo. Also would say that smoother buttery mouse skates are also preference. Personally I dont like skates where I can't at least some what feel the texture feedback. A high refresh rate monitor (OLED's now are meta) and a relatively powerful PC plus a lightweight mouse is all you need for competitive play. And at least 1K polling on mouse and keyboard. But I think finding the right mouse shape that fits ones own hands and playstyle is more of a larger factor. As if you can't physically aim and click accurately, no amount of hardware upgrades are going to help to such a degree of making you a better player. But yeah moving mice to lets say an old and dated & heavy wired/wireless mouse; to a 2023/2024 mouse, with a 3395/3950 sensor and at sub 59g one. Would be a massive upgrade I suspect.

I almost instantly got better at games. I thought it was placebo at first, then I went back to my TV and noticed how sluggish it was, it was only 60hz and has bad response times

5:53 is disgusting! But I think this is one of the best videos you have made. Very simple and everything is pretty much spot on. I think the glass vs cloth might be a bit more nuanced than you say, but I switched to glass for exactly the reasons you said. Super consistent and so easy to clean.

I am late to this but for mouse skates and mouse pads they all depend on what game you play, e.g. I play valorant and it’s better to have good stopping power and control pads rather than rly smooth/slippery skates and mouse pads. I use the g pro super light 2 and a cloth mousepad and imo the stock skates r rly good bc it’s both smooth and has good stopping power, it is just my opinion. For games like Fortnite, apex or any tracking game it’s better having glass skates or glass pads.

Very based take on mousepad, despite many in here disagreeing. Glass mousepad is genuinely the biggest mousepad you can upgrade and truly is endgame IMO. It will make your aim better with time and far better than cloth mousepads when you get the hang of them. Also skates can make the mouse feel more controlled on glasspads if control is an issue, making the glass pads more usable to noobs.

You dont need to enable high refresh rate in Windows. If you play your game in fullscreen mode (which you should anyway) the game applies its own refresh rate / overrides the windows settings. From my experience with two monitor setup, when one is 144hz and other is 60hz, it introduces problems in windows. It's just a preference, but i dont think its really nescesary, to run windows in 140hz... Just a waste of gpu power and recources. Also for best response times, cap your game framerate a bit under your max framerate (so that your GPU isnt always at 100% load) + enable Nvidia Reflex or Radeon AntiLag2. Also Variable Refresh rate in monitors makes is so that you can run the game at whatever frame rate you want

@@googletumadre5499 cool but im just curious if there's any manufacturer out there that could make an insanely cheap glass pad, be it good or bad. It would answer the question of whether glass pads from big brand companies are actually worth the price. I currently have a china glass pad i got for around 20 USD, but I don't have a big brand pad to compare it against.

Great vid and yeah Glass pad are ❤‍🔥 The amount of choice for a glass mousepad and mice skates in other materials than PTFE are truly the best thing happening in the market right now (price dropped, different surface speed and feeling). It's so fun to play on a glass pad and so easy to clean, the dust issue if you are using dot skate is overrated and today everyone can find a good glass / skates combo with a decent or a quite huge amout of friction if they are afraid of it being too fast. Something like PlastiX + SP-004 can be really fast and durable while others like Obsidians Pro and Obsidian Pro AIR Skates with a Cerapad KIN or a Wraith Esport V2 control can be really slow in comparison and still really durable, the only thing you need to be aware of is : "do you mind playing with a sleeve or not ?". And ofc the choice of well built lightweight mice today to use with it is insane and with a low cost bungee like the pulsar micro bungee ES Ed and a mice with a great cable like the OP1 you can have an experience close to a wireless mice on a pad with a smooth surface even if the cable is still touching the pad sometimes (On Glass = Perfect / On Cordura = Please don't do that). HE keyboard are also god sent, once you tried and liked, it's like glass pad or lightweight mice, you can't go back. (Proud owner of a Superglide Polarity, Wraith Esport Glass v2 control JP Ed and Laonda Glaze here).

Yeah, the amount of really good mousepads and the fact that there are so many options for feet too is too good. Tbh I think that like bardoz says, actually mousepads and feet might be a better change than a mouse these days. Like I though I was in a slump because of the gpx being too big for me a year ago, but now owning smaller mice and more hours in kovaak's and fps game I literslly aim the exact same with the gpx and op1 8k.

@@greippuli9166 Completely agree with you, once you got a good lightweight mice (without issues like pain while playing with it), it's better to change mouse feet and mousepad. There is so many skate / mousepad combo, at first it's hard to choose (thank goodness, dot skates are cheap and can be reused multiples times).
