The original ASUS ROG Keris was a pretty amazing mouse at the time. But suffered from literally nobody trying it out...
The Keris 2 looks to have been made to really go against some of the biggest manufacturers in gaming mice. But have they made mistakes on trying to copy some of the best?

Please pin this as a PSA. The switches here are hotswappable without soldering as long they are Raesha optical switches, you just pull the switches out with your fingers/nail (I just saw another video of someone doing this to this same mouse), so you can put your Razer or Pulsar switches on these. Razer optical are my favourite kind of Raesha opticals, very tactile so I would swap for those.

I find these switches loud and annoying, are there any Raesha optical switches that you know of that are quieter but still good? I have a Razer DeathAddder v2 and don't mind the sound of that switch (definitely not as loud as this one in my Keris II). Also do you have a link to that video where someone swaps the switches? I'm interested to have a look :) Thanks!

You said that improved "DPI deviation" will provide more consistency This perplexed me a bit because the only definition of "dpi deviation" I know of in gaming mice is a unit-to-unit deviation. For example: If you get two XM1rs and set them both go 400 DPI, one of them may have a real DPI of 395 while the other one may have a DPI of 412

I'm just going by what they say in their press kit they sent. And also partially me over simplifying it to keep the section short. and also maybe me getting mixed up with polling rate stability

@@DiamondLobbyReviews Generally, what @d34thnote79 wrote is true. DPI deviation doesn't matter if it's consistent. However, there are scenarios where DPI may vary based on speed. That's the only thing I can really think of, especially once you get into the really high DPI range (which essentially nobody uses, but could have some theoretical benefit).

Not necessarily per unit deviation. DPI deviation usually mean how accurate their firmware handles the specified DPI (+/-). The distance of the mouse sensor is to the bottom plate of the mouse will have an influence on DPI, that's why changing mouse feet can affect the DPI of the same moue because your new skates might be thicker. That's why despite mice using the same sensor across many brands, there will always be deviation because of the distance of the sensor will vary per shell design, not necessarily because of unit by unit deviation though it is a factor but not that much. Good brands would see their 800 DPI is actually '821' on most of the units so they will probably bake some correction onto their firmware (like subtracting 2.5% across all DPI levels or something). The G Pro Superlight's DPI deviation is usually super accurate, 800 DPI is 800 (maybe +/- 2) while people always felt that Razer mice felt faster than specified which is common, Razer would have a DPI of 800 but actual is 832 for example.

I still have (& use) my original Keris since now I’ve got old man hands & ergo mice are superior in comfort but I’m a bit eager to try out the second iteration

Great review! I really can’t stand these Raesha opticals. I returned multiple Razer mice and the Lamzu Thorn hoping they would improve over the years, but they just feel and sound like a toy and also do not age well. It has to be either Omron opticals or mechanicals for me and literally no one comes close to Vaxee when it comes to switches.

Yes, armoury crate is super garbage and i refuse to buy ROG products that require that trash being installed in my PC. Armoury Crate = software cancer.

I just bought this mouse for 72 € (78 $). Totally worth it! But I presume that is a mistake made by the store since every single other store sells it for a price similar to what this video says. I would not have paid 160 for it. For that price I wouldve gone for something else. But it does seem like a good mouse, I enjoy it so far.

I will take a good feeling mechanical switch that might double click after a year over an optical switch that feels like crap from day one every time. I hope the main brands eventually move away from opticals.

I've talked to a few manufacturers and I don't think it's likely going to happen. Removing a reason for people to RMA a product is pretty massive for some companies and optical switches will help solve that.

Rofl "quite abrasive" Has an arm sleeve. You know what abrasive means right? "1. (of a substance or material) capable of polishing or cleaning a hard surface by rubbing or grinding." How much did you get paid to say that the coating was quite abrasive? Like we are gonna destroy our hands gripping this mouse. Textured, the mouse is textured. You don't like how "textured" the mouse surface is. The difference between textured and abrasive is that texture is a preference. Abrasive is dangerous.

Technically optical switches are hotswappable no? I swapped my Pulsar X2H switches with Razer ones without any issue.

They are if they are made by the same company. Pulsar X2H and Razer opticals are made by the same company (raesha). In theory you've just swapped the same switch over.

ASUS software is a deciding factor for me -- deal breaker -- I CRINGE at the thought of having SteelSeries, Razer, Logitech any more SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE of their giant multi-gigabyte driver monoliths. Best case you get near-daily updates, that prevent you from using years-old hardware while software is updated with beta-grade features for hardware you'll never own. Worst-case, like with my SteelSeries (realtek) audio hardware, Windows Update even pushed unwanted third-party software to people's computers that cannot be uninstalled even after the hardware's gone. I own two Ninjutso mice and, despite its weird inability to be resized to not take up your entire screen, their software is easily the best out there: only what you need and nothing you don't. They even have a separate copy for each SKU. I LOVE THAT.

I just want an ambidextrous mouse, thats super fast latency like the ultralight x or beast x, stable latency and just got optical switch and encoder everything. weight can be 60 to 80g even having more buttons like 2 dpi profile or scroll wheel infinity buttons😢 basically a g502 ambidextrous but with carbon or magnesium weight same buttons get it to 60grams it's perfect

It's bullshit I have them all but razare software is running in the background while I play games that make any PC perform slower I did inform them about it and yaba daba do.I build my own PC and I know how they perform extra. AMD is the Best and always it will be but Harper ace is the best maus at the moment you lake it or not BEST Harper Ace 👍
