With regard to income annuities(immediate), for a fixed period - say 7 years, where you hand over a lump sum to be annuitized. Why not just take your lump sum and divvy it up into a monthly payment for the time frame you are interested in and pay yourself? What is the benefit of handing it over to be annuitized and pay a fee?

I would imagine in many cases, the annuity returns a slightly higher percentage of interest, which is not attainable by other similar methods? Otherwise it makes no sense for anyone to use this type of annuity.

hello,is fixed simple annuity good investment now with some of them paying around 5%for 5 years and 4.7% for 3 years which is higher then T bills ,Thank you

I am considering moving some of my IRA into an Indexed annuity, so this video is very informative. Thank you. Could you please explain further how the guaranteed minimum return, guaranteed minimum interest, and the rate cap affect an Indexed Annuity account? For instance, with your example of 3% minimum guaranteed interest and 7% cap interest - If the S&P 500 Index went up to 11%, is my account credited with 8% (i.e., after the company kept its 3%) or 7% [ i.e., while the Index went up to 11%]? Depending on your circumstances and stage of life, MYGAs could be a good way of getting stable, predictable income over a fixed period. Hi Jen, I'm a new subscriber, I came across a link to your channel in the Bogleheads Forum. My question: could you do a video about MYGA's (multi year guaranteed annuities), specifically about CANVAS MYGA's? These were discussed in the forum, presently their interest rates are 5.5% for 3 year, 5.6% for 5 year, and 5.7% for 7 year. Thanks! -Pete CANVAS MYGA rate update effective last week: 5.75% for 3 year, 6.20% for 5 year, and 6.25% for 7 year. 🙂 PS: for the annuities, one can't withdraw before age 59.5 without penalty (I'm 58.5, so that's ok with me).
