Never noticed how they edited out that original knee to Bond’s groin! Quite interesting until they got to the pool, it was unbelievable that Bond could hold them both underwater with simply his hands on their heads! Would be more realistic that the 2 of them could drown Bond!

Just remembered this too about this segment. Trina is and was at the time a black belt in Karate. In the beginning of the scenes she knees Bond in the groin. She kept pulling the kick so as not to hurt Connery. The director approached her and told her not to pull the kick. Trina expressed her concerns about hurting Connery, and the director told her not to worry, Connery was wearing protection. When you see her deliver the kick, although they cut the actual impact, you can see the power of the movement. Had this been a real fight, it would have most likely been over at that point.

@ungratefulmetalpansy Heaven or hell, a point of view ;-) … However, this scene was no fake! I read somewhere about an interview from Sean, where he talked about that „this girl had incredible strong legs“. And his deep-red balloonface doesn't lie. He was stressed near to panic. Obviously the director had instructed Lola Larson to give everything to make the scene look realistic, not guessing what enormous power she had in these thighs. For this times of thin models like Twiggy, a woman showing such legs and strength in a movie, was new and almost shocking. Today I‘d see some women in the role of ‘Bambi‘ with thighs from which Connery would flee from the set by their sheer sight.

It appeared Lola Larson was the real deal, she was a trained gymnast and athlete. Judging from the over the top dramatics she incorporated in her fighting style, Trina Parks was a trained dancer...and she did not do some of her stunts. I can see they used a double for Thumper's cartwheel and when she dived into the swimming pool. I am thinking that Donna Garrett, the original Bambi and Trina Parks were the "actresses", and Larson and the unidentified Black lady were their stunt doubles. And in the end, perhaps to maintain more continuity and have less cuts they retained Larson for Bambi's entire role. Parks they kept because she had more close-ups and had the looks.

Dan Clark Bambi and Thumper specialized in fast attacks with lots of acrobatics involved, and the latter was simply not possible to pull off in the pool, let alone as effectively as they did on dry land in the open air. They might’ve still had a good chance if they had avoided the pool altogether or somehow managed to make it out of the pool, but since the pool took away their biggest advantage in the fight, 007 was able to use that to his own advantage and overpower them. That’s just my guess based on this scene, but it would make sense.
