Total beginning roller skater here and 69 years young. For my first skates, I ordered suede boots and the Sure Grip Velvets. I was a little concerned they might be too “slippery”, but in my first 90 minute rink session they provided a great balance of slip and grip. Love these wheels.

To anyone looking for wheels for indoor. The bone Elite 101a 57mm are amazing. Great grip for tricks and even skating quick. Very predictable wheel. Tried the 2 tone fomacs and they are very slippery but fun.

I've used those and agree

Make sure you measure your feet so you can get a proper size. To small or to big can effect your skating. Most skate shops can measure your feet and get you properly fitted.

All jokes aside, thanks for another helpful video! 🙏🏼 After almost three years of skating I've figured out a setup that I like (now starting to experiment with different wheels, tying my shoes in different ways etc) :) Whenever beginners ask me what I recommend, I usually tell them to start with a cheap pair and if you're still at it >8 months later, invest in something better/more durable... + always try the skates you wanna buy on in person! Gotta make sure they fit well

Others have recommended buying heeled skates because its harder to fall backwards in them and because flat skates are faster . .Thanks for the info I plan to buy skates this week .

Thank you so much for this advice video. I have high boot skates been using for several years but I have a lot of issues due to my flat feet and pronation. The boot skates have been altered alot just to make them comfortable. I still struggle with balance on them. I got some flat skates so hopefully that will help me improve without arching foot pains.

This was great! Made me laugh, because I paused the video to google your plates and wheels, just like you suspected I’d do. The magic isn’t in the skates, it’s in the skater (unless they are Diamond Walker skates, whenever those are available!).

I'm sure that people want to get your setup and be you. I look at your skates and they remind me of the skates my parents had, their skate were set for dancing and waltzing. I know that while I enjoy skating fast, I don't want wheels that are that fast or set that loose. I bought my skates in the late 80's early 90's for $95 (I remember that because it was a huge expense for me at the time) and I loosened the front wheels from the default enough to make it feel less blocky but not too much for my balance. I love how my skates feel except the boot gets painful after an hour of wearing it since my feet became wider after having kids. I used to skate a couple times a week, but in the last 10 years, I skate once or twice a year. i just had foot surgery and am scheduled in the fall to have surgery on the other foot, so I won't be able to skate for another year, but I'm thinking that I should get a wider width skate before I go to the rink again. But I want to try on a boot before buying and local places don't carry skates that are comparable to the ones I want to replace.

Last thing beginner skater needs to be is judged and discouraged by saying " get anything they will be in the closet after 6 mo " really ? Wow
