The song is close to Diana's heart and means a lot to her personally. She now performs this a capella at her live concerts, usually starting in total darkness then the spotlight picks her out! A very old Russian folk song, it appears in a variety of different lyrics, but the basic story is more or less the same. Here is a rough explanation, remember Diana spent time in an orphanage herself. *THE SONG* (As Diana sings it here) "You are a river. My dear river. You flow and do not splash." "Oh yes you are a child, my little child - why are you sitting and not smiling" "Our yard is full of horses and the living room is full of guests" "Oh, my friends, my darlings, oh yes, I have nothing to rejoice at and nothing to smile about." "I have no father or mother, no one to bless me ..." "You are a river. My dear river. You flow and do not splash." *THE STORY* "A young orphan girl is being given away in marriage to the unloved. She goes to the river (a portal between the living and dead) to ask her dead mothers’ blessings for a marriage that will not be a happy one. The spooky voice is her dead mum answering back! The mood of the song changes and we hear her young girlfriends in the yard playing and laughing, asking why the girl is so sad? Then she cries uncontrollably. She is lifted into the boat to be taken to her wedding with resignation for a sad life."

The guy sitting back was Igor Krutoy, was her patron and was paying for her apartment and education. He would always wait to push the button until it didn't interrupt her performance. She ran away with the competition, they all knew what she could do. Krutoy is the composer and pianist for Dimash, another of your favorites. The two of them brought him out of retirement, and how could they not? When you see that talent, and you have over a billion dollars, you work for love.

This competition is called "You Are Super" and is specifically for disadvantaged children who did not grow up with one or both blood parents. Her adoptive mother entered her. The song "Rechenka" (river or little river) is a Russian folk song. The river is the boundary between the living and dead. She is an orphan about to be given away into a marriage she is dreading and goes to the river to seek her dead mother's blessing. As you know, Diana was an orphan, so it has a special meaning. Diana won that season of "You Are Super"...and was invited to participate the following year in the all star season for prior winners...she won that season also! As you've probably read from other comments, she is a dramatic contralto and really becomes part of the song! So she won the two seasons at ages 14 and 15. She was only 14 when she sang this song. Perfect song, perfect voice, perfect artist! When she won this first season, the older gentleman judge, Igor Krutoy, is a famous composer/producer/billionaire in Russia who also promotes/produces Dimash's performances. Igor gave Diana an apartment in Moscow so she and her family didn't have to take a 12 hour train to get there each time and so she could get into local schools and university nearby to further her artistic development. The judges were asked after this performance, why they did not push the buttons until the end. They basically said that they were so mesmerized by her singing it that they basically forgot. Oh, she was 14 here. I have always said that she was given to Mother Earth by the Gods to bring joy to the world. And, that she does.

Yes, the mystical, witchy, mysterious { 15 y/o here I believe ) Diana, giving us 'Rechenka'! Quite aside from her unique vocal quality and techniques, her musical intelligence is outstanding. Whilst her voice is still maturing, and skills still developing, like Dimash, she understands that her voice, her talent is a vehicle to deliver the storyline of each piece and she inhabits the character fully, as she does this - beautifully. { The story of Rechenka, as I understand it, is based on an old Russian folk story, of a young woman about to marry who goes to the river and asks the spirits there to help her communicate with the spirit of her deceased mother, to obtain her mothers blessing for this match. } Diana is an extraordinary young woman, and artist, who has not had an easy pathway to here. Not only did she have a very challenging beginning, but, I believe, her vocal coach, who had worked with her for a long time, including toward this performance, died of COVID before it went to air. в одном из комментариев правильно сказали - для средневекого русского крестьянина, точнее крестьянки, свадьба это не то, что она есть для нас, современных русских. Это было то, что этнографы называют обрядом перехода. Для 15-19 веков это именно был переход молодой девушки к иной жизни - от маменьки с тятенькой (вообще семьи) к новой жизни, где на мужнюю жена наваливались многие заботы и труд. Любые такие переходы (рождение, брак, смерть) в традиционных обществах обставлялись обрядами. На Руси их частью были песни, причем для брака - именно что печальные, "жалельные". Девушку перед свадьбой подружки прямо таки "отпевали". "Реченька" поэтому тоже относится к этому разряду - но так сказать с обременением, т.е. с фактом сиротства лирической героини (тоже частый мотив)

The song "Rechenka" (affectionate from the word "river") is a Russian folk ritual wedding song. There is a version that this song appeared before Christianity, and since early Christianity and paganism were closely intertwined, there are many versions of this song. It tells how an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. The song is about how my mother, father and brothers were killed by enemies, there is no one to take care of her. Это детский вокальный конкурс Ты супер для детей из малообеспеченных,неполных семей,для детей-сирот или оставшихся без попечения родителей.Есть еще такой же Ты Супер 60+,в нем участвуют одинокие пожилые люди.Смысл тот же.Участники выступают,судьи нажимают зеленые кнопки.Трех зеленых кнопок достаточно чтобы пройти в полуфинал.В полуфинале нужно чтобы все четыре кнопки были нажаты.В финале кнопки уже не нажимаются.Победителя выбирают судьи.Диане здесь 14 лет,это второй сезон проекта и она его выиграла как выиграла и третий сезон(участвовали финалисты прошлых сезонов)На четвертый сезон Диана была приглашена в качестве почетного гостя и исполняла уже свою песню В небо.Советую ее послушать,в ней Диана звучит совсем иначе,ее голос как чистый ручеек)
