This was a good song for her to show off of her abilities. She had the slides, she had the register transitions and of course the yodels which are more clear-cut type of register transition. She had great breath control, she had the ability to change timbres a bunch of times, and she had a lot of vocal power.

Paradoxically, neither Diana nor Dimash are from Eastern Europe. Dimash is Central Asia, Kazakhstan. Diana Ankudinova was born at the opposite end of Eurasia from Europe, in the Far East, next to Japan. Diana’s a contralto gifted with naturally occurring polyphonic overtones. Diana's voice is like a rainbow of colors now and there's a pot of gold that's the gift at the end of the rainbow, and the rainbows being the various tones that and qualities that she has to offer through the song. Diana's polyphonic overtone sounding is indescribable happiness, delight and goosebumps. To perform all this with a contralto chest register, combining with a mixed and head register, ending each phrase with his own unforgettable yodeling technique, no one is able to perform songs, as Diana does.

don't forget that Diana is 14 years old here. Only in the next season will Diana's contralto beauties be fully revealed, and the overtone, polyphonic sound akin to throat singing will be more noticeable later, coaches also say that Diana widely uses throat and nasal twang, mixing them.

Greetings from Scotland! I think you understand Diana's abilities, but to try to explain them effectively is near impossible! That's OK though because all her fans gave up trying to explain Diana a long time ago! She doesn't need explaining, just listen - open mouthed and in complete wonderment - because she is Diana! When she finishes her education and is ready, Diana will decide what she wants to do in her future. Whatever she wants to do, her fans will be happy for her. :)

There is nothing gimicky about her vocal texture. So many "vocal coaches" want to try to explain her voice away but I think you are not overthinking it and are spot on about how natural this comes to her. The horses in the stable are from the guests arriving to the wedding and the dancers are the spirits of the river as she speaks to the spirt of her dead mother. The creepy voice is the voice of her mother. She uses yodeling techniques in a mainstream way to express anguish. It's brilliant. No offense to your twitch audience but some of those comments about the judges were trash...just made up or from an earlier contest where Diana sand Yodel Time and she was much younger. The judges were blown away with her use of this technique...heck, you can just see it in their reactions. Watch and translate their commentary after the performance and you will see what I mean. Great video, loved your insight.

*For Big Brain Singer:* here is the video that Han Fastolfe writes about - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHzHp5SNqMlsZ7M In general, yodling as a singing technique is not typical for Eastern European (including Russian) performers, so the decision of Diana and her mentors to suggest such a song to the judgement of jury was risky - none of the judges on the "Voice. Kids" dared to become her mentor. They were very impressed with Diana's performance, but they were afraid of being inable to find a similar next song for her (they thought that the girl specializes in exactly this kind of singing because her performance seemed so professional to them). By the way, when performing "Rechenka" Diana was 14 years old, and on the project "Voice. Kids" she was 13. That is, about 1 year passed between these recordings.

Yodeling involves repeated and rapid changes of pitch between the low-pitch chest register (or "chest voice") and the high-pitch head register or falsetto. Diana masters both the high notes as well as the very low, also shown when she does that slide from high to low. And she is very good at yodeling. Take a look at when she was younger .... She is not easter european genetically just by nationality. She is obviously of indiginous tribes of the Russian Federation origin. Maybe Tuvan or Altaian. They have long tradition of throat singing and yodling they utilised as part of their shamanistic culture. Germans are not only people using throat singing or and yodling. And Tuvans speak Russian as their second language and know many Russian folk songs. She did not invent it. It has been done for long time. It is just that her singing voice and technique are unique so is her anatomy when it comes to her vocal cords.

The song rechenka or little river, is a Russian folk song, even before Christianity, that an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. The song is about the fact that my mother, father and brothers were killed by the enemies, there is no one to take care of her. There are about 30 variants of this song, but the basis of the content of each of the variants are the sad appeals of the orphan bride to her deceased parents, asking them for "blessings" and help for marriage, for a family to strangers. There are other versions of this song, where the heroine appeals to her brothers, and even to her parents, with a call to return to earth in the form of a bird to her native home. At the end of the song, the girl sails away to a strange tribe, to a strange family. This song appeared before 900 AD, before the Russians sailed to conquer Constantinople and converted to Christianity. The roots of the song are in pagan Russia, it is a very, very old folk folklore. And since Diana is an orphan herself, this topic is very close to her.

Oh, my girlfriends, yes, my lovely, Oh, Nothing pleases me. Oh, nothing smiled at me. Many horses in the yard, Many guests in our house. I have no father, mother, No one will bless me ... If you have any further information about that I would be very interested to find out. I do know that there are many indigenous and ethnic groups in the region and many are from other parts of Russia and Asia. I have already mentioned Dimash and Diana together. Simply because both are unique to me. Of course, their uniqueness is very different, even if certain elements fit both. For me, Diana is more earthbound and shamanic. Like Dimash, she seems to be a very down-to-earth person. She learned early on what great suffering can be, but also experienced what real love means through her adoptive mother. For me, Dimash stands for something higher, even though he himself is a very down-to-earth, grounded person. But his voice takes me to heights that I can hardly explain. He first learned love through his great family. But he also knows suffering, albeit in a different way than Diana. His career is already further along and I think it will be more difficult for Diana, if she even aspires to become internationally known. Dimash definitely has an advantage there. But he is also older and has simply had more opportunities. Dimash also has a great mission, namely to make the world a better place and to promote peace. Luckily, he's infecting his fans, the Dears, with it. I think it's going to be very exciting. Both are definitely something very special and the world would be poorer without them.

I'm getting the impression that you think that Diana is a one-trick pony or something. To take a paraphrase from Bruce Lee, you are focusing on the finger and not on all that heavenly glory. There is so much more to Diana than you currently know. There are reasons people are requesting you react to 2-to-3 year-old TV-show material. The main reason being that those songs have high professional production values. She created and arranged her own interpretations to those songs. I've watched hundreds of reactions to Diana. 99% of them simply take her at face value and focus on HER, and not on the game-show format. Listen to Tomorrow is a Lie. Her performance in that song is as "pure Diana" as it gets.

@@CharlieCalottaReacts Thank you for responding. Diana has a lot of people around the world, including me, who feel very protective of her. She has suffered greatly and it is a miracle that she is alive, much less a world-class performer. She doesn't need my, or anybody else's, sympathy or pity. Her past has made her strong. She is surrounded by people who love her and all indications are that she is doing exactly what she needs to prepare for her future. I've watched videos of her recent performances. The production values are lower and the recording values leave a lot to be desired, but even with all that I can tell that her voice and range are improving, almost on a daily basis. Bottom line, I think that there is no better female vocalist/performer on the planet than Diana. Personally, I think that Diana is perfect for opera and musical theater. But whatever career path she chooses, I'm looking forward to it. Once again, I appreciate you taking time to respond to my earlier post (which, after re-reading, may have been an overreaction).

Thank you for your reaction 🤍 A quick history about this song: This is an old Russian folk song about an orphan bride who has no parents to give blessings to her marriage, so she goes to the river, which represents the border between the living and the dead to ask for a blessing from her mother. The part about the horses in the yard just means that there are a lot of people gathered at the celebration, but nobody who can "give her away" in the traditional sense. That creepy whisper was the voice of her deceased mother, and the yodeling part was her weeping.

Жаль, что не включаете русские субтитры. Просто у Дианы огромная русскоязычная аудитория.

The contralto is her speaking voice, also. It’s a bit disarming, as the timbre is so unusual. Her cover of Wicked Game shows her age-incredible command of overtones.

Diana is not from Eastern Europe, she was born near Vladivostok in far eastern Russia.
