This was Diana Ankudinova aged 14. She's 18 now and even more mind-blowing. Masterful stage performer and vocalist. Rechenka, Wicked Game, and Derniere Danse are the most popular reactions of her from that time period. I'd recommend The Crow and Can't Help Falling in Love from her more recent. Then there are all her excellent originals (album out next month) and then there is all her p-re-14 stuff she sang as a child, also way ahead of her age in vocal and performance quality. In short Diana is the most gifted and talented singer out there right now. Bar none imho. Her background is a sad one - terrible childhood with abusive mother who tried to drown her. Found at age 3 on the street with a broken collar bone by relatives. Relatives did not want her as she was considered mentally backward. All changed when she was adopted from the orphanage a year or two later by a loving new mother and sister. It makes her rise even more inspiring. This girl is going to be a household name in a few short years.

I found her a year after this, I was hunting for Russian deep voices as I am a tiny bit obsessed with them, as an old goth punk from UK I have waited 50 years for ths voice, Diana is my high priestess of sound and I wish she would do a project with my fav band Heilung (healing). If you want to hear her light side try, Into the Skys Shes also a very hardworking grounded young lady working at what she does like few if any others. Shes a a very dramatic performer and has a contralto voice with a natural ability to produce polyphonic sounds.. She could perform on Broadway. She's sensational. She just passed her first year finals at GITIS, The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts located in Moscow. You should check out her performance in front of a live audience two Saturdays ago. Bopoha (Crow). It's mystical, shamanistic, mysterious and mesmerizing. If you want to see something in English watch Take On Me filmed in her apartment during lockdown in 2020 or Wicked Game. The dark, minor key cover of Elvis Presley song Can't Help Falling in Love is something to see as well. There are many more. She has a tonal quality nobody else has.

Hi, avid Diana fan here! Her reaction videos brought me here. As to suggestions on what of hers to react to next, I have narrowed it down to "Everything Diana has ever sung!" I'd usually suggest more covers from the TV show that you saw Rechenka performed, but she has been appearing on the new show ShowNASKgoOn. Unfortunately it ended today and she went out with a bang with Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" which was phenomenal. Anything from this series is a great starting point as it shows how young Diana grew from a child into the 18 year old dramatic contralto powerhouse that she is today.

Thank you for bringing me back to 2018, when Diana Ankudinova became world famous. I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the scene, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song. P.S. Say the first syllable of her name as DEE, please. Thanks.

Rechenka (stress on the first syllable) is endearing word for a river, means "my dear river". It is a Russian folk song, arranged for Diana's vocal. The lyric is simple: A girl is addressing the river, talking about her joyless, not blessed life. It is not a ballad-like song, just a lamentation. It could be one of the "girl's crying" genre song from the older times, when girls were forced by parents to marry unloved ones. So, Diana is singing on the bank of the river, and some demons are dancing around, probably trying to convince her to drown herself. In the end, she is floating down the river in a boat assisted by the demons. Looks like the demons succeeded. The story is not in the song's lyric, but my impression is that, that was the plot, meant by the program's director.
