The Glamorous and Beauty of Diana Ross is simple breathtaking. She’s our skinny girl with the velvetysmooth voice. Her Rendditions of those songs are just hers and her singing. No person sounds the same. Everyone is unique! Give her All due respect she opened doors for a many black women. Sing Ms Ross!!!

Diana sings this song beautifully, and with a great deal of feeling. It's precisely the beauty of her voice, mated with the great lyrics & melody that make this such a powerful performance, like looking at a beautiful sunset when you don't want to be alone. The beauty makes the pain that much more palpable.

Fabulous rendition of a beautiful song, I had the honor of going to one of Diana Ross's concerts in the early 80's in Houston. She was fabulous and her outfit changes were out of this world. These are the songs all from days gone by, standards, and sung by many artists, all of them great in there all unique styles from Billy to Gloria Estefan, they all came from diverse backgrounds and to try and compare them against one another is not fair to them and this beautiful song. They are legends.

I absolutely agree with you. The one standout scene for me in Lady Sings the Blues was Ross in the bathroom, on the floor, shooting up. She's in an absolute state of frenzy! That sequence was more dramatic, more powerful, and so well-acted, it's the basis for my saying Ross was the superior actress that year. Nothing Liza Minelli did matched that. And for sure nothing Halle Berry did in Monster's Ball even comes close.
@annalodi96637 жыл бұрын
AMEN!! Diana was ripped off!!!! It was 1972, what could we expect?? They weren't going to give a best actress Oscar to a black woman no matter how brilliant. Liza...don't get me started on Liza. She is a poor imitation of her mother and in no way deserved to win that award. Diana owned that movie. She was amazing. I know a bit about Heroin addiction. Diana could not have done it any better. Its a crime she got ripped off. Sorry for the rant, I'm just a little passionate about this Have been since early 1973 when those Oscars were awarded. Criminal!!!.

Someone in the comments below said Ms. Ross can't sing... I guess selling 100 million records worldwide is a fluke huh? Ross has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, when her releases with the Supremes and as a solo artist are tallied. In 1988, Ross was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as member of the Supremes, alongside Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard. PS. I always thought her jazz renditions were simply marvelous.

On this day in 1972 the Billie Holiday bio movie "Lady Sings The Blues" had its world premier... Diana Ross, who portrayed Billie Holiday, was nominated for an Academy Award for 'Best Actress' {winner Liza Minnelli for 'Cabaret'}... "Good Morning Heartache" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 on January 13th, 1973; eventually it peaked at #34 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... The song was originally recorded by Billie Holiday in 1946 and appeared on her 1956 album 'Lady Sings The Blues'...

Yes, Liza did win that year and my point is her performance in Cabaret was nowhere near as challenging, or dramatic, as Diana's. But Liza got that award because she was White (Hollywood was not yet ready to hand out "Best Actress" to a Black woman) and, just as important, she was Judy Garland's daughter, to boot! It's not always about recognizing the best "talent" for the Hollywood awards.

It was a close call that year. Liza Minelli won the Oscar for Cabaret. A hell of a performance, but she came up a bit short compared to Diana's in my opinion. They weren't ready for a black best actress back then. She would've been the first . . . before Halle.

On this day in 1972 (Oct 12th} the musical bio-movie ‘Lady Sings the Blues' had its world premiere in New York City... Diana Ross received an Academy Award 'Best Actress' nomination {winner was Liza Minnelli for 'Cabaret'}... "Good Morning Heartache", sung by Diana Ross, was featured in the film; and three months later on January 7th, 1973 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #98, nine weeks later on March 11th, 1973 it peaked at #34 {for 1 week} and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... @Rockin2222 Their talents are completely different from each other. They're both beautiful in their own styles. I suppose, with Billie and this song you can really feel the pain, the hurt.
