Amelia Chastain, an arabesque is when you extend your leg back, and penche is when you lift your leg up and simultaneously have your upper body go down. It should look like your lifting your leg so high that your upper body goes down, like a lever. Although if your well trained and stretched it should not hurt

Hold Me Tight gurl, ask your parents to start dance. If your parents actually care about your interests and what you want to do for fun, they won’t laugh. They will try their best to get you in dance. If they can’t, then there is probably some reason like a schedule conflict with the rehearsal/class times idk. Idk your parents though. Point being, ask your parents. If you are too embarrassed to ask verbally, write a note or something idk and put it on their dresser or pillow. If you want to dance, then dance.

I was supposed to start, but my dad’s being really strict about it. I had scoliosis for a while and now that I’m better, I wanted to start ballet because I’ve loved it for so long and I find the delicate movements so beautiful and soft, but he doesn’t want me to risk anything. I get where he’s coming from, but he’s being a little unreasonable. All I wanted was a chance, if something happens then I’d stop, but now I can’t even get that. It’s frustrating and unfair. Go for your passions and dreams, and have courage and faith. Good luck :)

My friend does figure skating and I do ballet and we talked about it, imo figure skating is harder to learn (because, you know, gotta get used to the ice) but ballet is harder to master (been dancing for years and still sickle my foot haha). However pointe shoes and skates are pretty different, the skates actually contribute to the, well, skating, and pointe shoes don’t do much besides but look pretty (and cause pain). Just my thoughts on the matter tho

I think that where sport and art intersect you're always going to find the most difficult disciplines. Ballet, figure skating, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics, etc. I think it's really hard to choose any such discipline as "the hardest" because they're all so different, and all so hard.

I watched this performance a while ago and thought it was pretty but just that. Then I saw the same performance by other people and realized that this performance is so freaking amazing because you look at it and just enjoy it. The other performances I saw, I could see the girl struggling which made me realize how some of these steps, although not fancy looking, are actually so straining and hard and difficult to even keep your balance in some of them. She's amazing.

I've wanted to do ballet for a few years now, since I love dancing and ballet is so beautiful to watch, but I've completely screwed up my feet and haven't been able to run, jump, or turn for years. I'm afraid I permanently injured them. I'm also too big (weight and bone structure) to be able to do ballet. Good luck to all the other aspiring ballerinas out there, I hope you don't end up the same way I did. Dance is incredibly difficult and if you don't do it correctly you can really mess things up.
